Welcome ReallyEvilMuffin, you come just in time to witness a truly historic event:
The Battle of Timbuktu!
As expected the city's defenses are pitiful. Nevertheless there is no gain in taking unnecessary risks, which is why the first act of fighting consists of heavy bombardment by our advanced siege equipment.
Now that the few defenders are a completely disorganized mess chariots are sent in to pick off lonely soldiers, while the main army marches in and wipes out the larger groups of soldiers with negligible losses.
Once all resistance has died down the real fun begins as Mayans, Celts and Frenchmen rape, pillage and burn the former metropolis to the ground.
The first battle of the War of Mali's Extermination was a resounding victory for the Knoedel Triple Alliance!

Kumbi Saleh is no more. I wouldn't even call its capture a battle, my Chariot had a whopping 96% chance of defeating that lone damaged Axeman.

No just trying to survive in a jungle area with no convenient source of copper or iron evident for some while. It is hard to build an army armed with ivory and bananas.

I must express my suspicions about my erstwhile "ally",
ImpK & "our" enemy Herc.
They seem to have a rather cooperative relationship:
> While talking about helping me in the campaign to elim Herc's civs, ImpK supplied/gifted iron to Herc's Washington so he could suddenly wipe axes & spears that he used to stop our Portuguese from completing their roll up of the last 2 American cities(!).
>> Meanwhile Herc's Mali & Sumeria are leaving their cities with little or no DEFENSE so ImpK's units are simply capturing their cities (& workers) with little or no fight(!?).
>>> While at home as U have no doubt read in the news, ImpK is building Wonders as fast as he can, knowing the "war" effort requires about as much effort as Russia just put in to "capture" Crimea!
Hard evidence to follow.
MAJOR FYI for all other leaders in this world beware.
Will be happy to discuss how we mite stand up to this collusion in private.

So it's my fault that Hercules is an utterly incompetent military strategist?
That iron shipment was only to lull him into a false sense of security, and judging by the success of my campaign I would say it worked.
I can afford to build all these wonders because I had an awesome start and I am a skilled micromanager, not to mention that I have the appropriate resources.
But sure, if that's how you want to be, I might as well take Hercules as vassal and continue the fight against you.

U could have gifted "our" enemy, food or luxuries... why iron?
I did gift him those too. In fact I only gifted him anything at all because I had a surplus of certain kinds of resources but not yet established trade connections with other civs.
