Insurgent message to the US.

Which we can basically throw out the window, due to our superpower hubris.

What reason would ANY soldier have to rape or kill a civilian?

I dont know you tell me.

Your somehow implying that our military is doing something evil and wrong like the insurgents (Aside from occupying iraq).

Agreed.

The military top brass doesn't give a hot sh!t how some poor Iraqi scrapes his money together. Right now they just want to guard their reputation as the worlds best, by crushing an insurgency that has so far been able to sustain the might of the worlds only superpower, and embarrass them in the process."Collateral Damage" doesn't factor into their plan at all.

So they can search people's homes without a reason?

Technically, anything is an excuse, because guess what? We are occupying their country. Thats right, THEIR country. They didn't ask for us to come there folks, we just assumed they did. They don't have to like us, since we are imposing our will upon an unwilling recipient. If they want to shoot at us, so be it. Its not like its the 51st state of the union (Yet:sad:).

Oh well lets just leave iraq and see how much better it gets. Maybe we shouldnt of been there in the first place but now that we are there we should try to get things done. And the military is not just fighting insurgents but also trying to do some CIVIL work, such as repairing the country.

This gives me an idea for a new thread topic...

I personally think we should admit that we shouldn't have gone in in the first place, as opposed to doling out another bullfeathers excuse like "spreading democracy".

Military doing CIVIL work?

Yeah those pork barrel Halliburton contractors get the job done, at 1000x the price! Its good to use taxpayer money for something great isn't it?

laugh all you want but denying it just shows how ignorant you are on the issue.

Even though it sounds like an oxymoron the army isnt just about combat.

There are other branches that do other kinds of work in foriegn countries.

The spreading democracy thing isnt why the U.S invaded. It was to get sadam out and dispose of the WMDs.

But since they didnt have any WMDs people tried using that excuse.

Im not supporting the war in iraq im just supporting the troops who are trying to make best of things.

Ignorant? Maybe.

But I did see this sort of thing try to happen on a televised Frontline documentary about this war. It focused on how a local military platoon (or some other unit denomination) tried to start up a bazaar of sorts.

Didn't work, because the construction site came under repeated attacks, and because the would-be vendors were terrified of being associated with americans.

Yeah the military isn't just about combat, its also about getting ready for combat.

EDIT-typo.

I guess that depends on what army you are talking about. I know the Norwegian army does lots of civil work in foreign countries, actually that's all they do. America actually fights the war, like the one in Afghanistan, and then Norway sent troops that built stuff, military engineers and such.

I don't know what the media was telling you, but those of who were there were certainly briefed before we liberated Iraq that spreading democracy was one of many reasons we were there. Mostly I heard 'liberating Iraq' instead of 'spreading democracy', but the intent was the same and both phrases were used.

Either way, I wouldn't say we've done either.
