[BTS] interesting isolation map

Creating a vassal is brilliant. I mighta just fed him all the cities on the island.

Probqbly not the best idea to do this for 2 reasons:

Foreign cities can only be a trade route to one city across your whole empire. Your own cities can show up as trade routes for all of your other cities at the same time, which is why a single island city can have a huge commetce boost when isolated (all your cities go from 1 commerce trade route to a 2 commerce trade route.

And, colony maintenance costs only appear at 3+ cities on the same island.

So giving away all 5 cities doesnt really provide much benefit, and loses 2 decentish cities.

@krikav
So granting independence to colonies doesn't require Feudalism... Glad I've learnt something new today :D

@Fish Man
Quechuas are good against barb archers, but they are not good against barb Axes ... Quechuas vs barb Axes looks like, on the same turn your horde of Quechuas reach Sitting Bull's borders, he adopts Slavery :o.

I did not touch the first map again (will maybe try again later), but started another isolation game.
I already advanced to turn 133 and just teched Philosophy with a great artist saved and MoM, Parthenon and TGL built. NE is soon ready.
I'm way ahead in tech and researched Optics on turn 111 and double bulbed Astro on turn 124.
Please critique/advise my current situation.
Thanks :)

@Tonny It's so hard to give feedback on such an advanced situation on a map that you haven't played yourself... :)
But here are some stuff at least.

It looks like you went for math+col+currency before optics, I don't really like that.
Pressence of gold+silver and IND would make me ignore monarchy too and just go straight for optics. +4 happines from forge is plenty.

But if there wouldn't have been any silver I would probably have gone monarchy.
The Bw/pot/ah/writing... the usual stuff.
Then poly->PH->monarchy, spam warriors ang grow capital and maybe some other city very large with that happines.
Presence of marble made marble play interesting, especially with ind so maybe that before optics would have been nice.

The tile 2S of capital is reachable from city#3, pigcity. That flatland grassland should have been a cottage.

Maybe too many libraries? The one in marblecity and silvercity are perhaps debatable.

Religion is a problem now... Bella/Monty/Charly.. they all value religion alot. Diplo is troublesome here.
I would refrain from spreading religion to new cities, hoping to catch budd/hind instead.

Abit suprised by the number of swords... Did you whip->overflow into failgold?
Hard to get good use out of swords on iso I think, but failgolding is nice.

Aside from dipo, situation looks really strong! Some nice wonders (GLib+Parth.. and MoM!!) and securing two religions make a culture thread less.
You got astro... T125? Thats good!
Rivers and capac makes for good circumstances from T0, but it looks like you did alot of stuff right by the looks of the T133 situation.

I got Monarchy by trading CoL for it with Isabella on turn 119.

Going for CoL gave me the chance of growing the cities a bit more and use Caste to generate gps
Machu Pichu gave me the first gs for the Academy.
Tiwa and Olla provided the 2 for Astro.

I completely ignored this line until after Optics. Like you said that gold/silver gave me enough happiness I figured this was a bit overkill

I was working with very few workers and never got to work that tile by using scientists a bit more in Machu.

Huamanga is constantly working the cottages, so imo it payed for itself.
Agree with Vilcas, probably shouldn't have built one there.

Agree. All religion spread was automatic except for Machu. (used it to increase happiness there)
I'm aiming for Charly first to kill/vassal and catch the AP and GLH in Aachen. And then Isa or Joao.
Keeping Asoka and Mansa as friends for now.

Hard to get good use out of swords on iso I think, but failgolding is nice.
Had a barb city that I wanted and went for the safe side. Swords were only built for that reason and later they can be upgraded to CR Rifles. Did not use them for failgold. Currency and building wealth helped enough imo.

Thank you for your kind words :)

P.S.
Added the start file if you're interested. I almost save every turn with notes in the savegame. We could compare.

I went ahead with my other game. Any comments/critique/advice is welcome :)

Spoiler current situation :

In the middle of turn 163... 1030 AD

What happened since turn 133:
- 3 more cities built (now at 11)
- built NE in Tiwa on turn 140
- started a GA on turn 140 and built Taj during the GA. (still got 2 turns left on this double GA)
- Cuzco has 1 turn left on Oxford
- currently sitting on 4 great people (2 gs and 2 gm)
- used 2 gs to help accelerate Edu and Printing Press
- got the following techs in trades (Theology, Guilds, Engineering, Banking)

What can I do? I'm thinking about the following options:
1a: extent the GA a bit more with gm and gs
1b: use both gm for a trade mission in Aachen, later use a gm and gs for a third GA
2: tech path RP - Rifling - Lib (for Steel)
3: first war with Charly to capture Aachen  (city with GLH, Hagia Sophia, AP, Mahabodhi, ToA) Also loads of food surplus. Should capture all of his cities imo.
4: after Charly, Isa is next.
5: still keeping Asoka and Mansa as friends in case they could supply me with "somewhat useful" dead end techs.

Generally what I'm doing atm:
- going to upgrade all leftover caravels into frigates
- continue building Cuirs, later Cavs when rifling is in
- going for another gm in tiwa
- andahuaylas seems good for Moai
- 3 cities already building cuirs, 3 more are being prepped (cuzco can chip in also) for a total of 7 cities to produce cuirs/cavs/rifles/cannons
- completely ignoring diplo (except asoka and mansa), because imo they are all prime targets to be killed soon(ish)
