Interesting Screenshots

Darski, you seem to come up with some of the oddest worlds when it comes to resources. Either your game has a really weird RNG, or you have really bad luck.

I do have bad luck generally on this game. I once lost our entire fighting force in an SG TDG I was playing.

More interestingly on this tiny, continents world was the fact that most luxes only had one so there was not much opportunity to trade. I remember there were 3 Ivory but only one gems, one wine and 2 furs. I`m not sure of the others but that was weird.

I wonder if part of the problem is that you like to play on Tiny worlds. That leaves only so much space for all of the resources and luxuries to fit on in the proper terrain. What setting do you normally use, and I will do some experimenting with the editor and see what I get.

I think you may be right. I generally play tiny, 5billion. normal temp and normal humidity. I most often (almost always) play Pangaea and it is only when I try continents that the resources go awry. I just played another French/ continents/70% h2O map and I had the same problem with missing resources.

I usually have 3 of any given lux. resource. They are most often grouped together. Again, there were only one or two of some resources.

I have adjusted my editor to increase the incidence of strategic (basic) resources so I don't have to struggle for horses or iron usually. On my last continents game I started with 3 iron and 2 died out. That meant there was only one source of iron on my (equally sized) continent. the other continent had at east 4 that I could see.

I do seem to have a talent for some dry times. this mini map is from a game I just finished. tiny/conts/60%water.

I didn't even realize that I didn't have any horses until I noticed that the Iros had a 'resource' I didn't have. I got 2 horses from the other land massed (blue dots) but it was just really weird to own half the world and not have a horse.

I will see if I have the time to run some tests with the editor, using Tiny worlds. With respect to luxuries, on most of the maps I generate with the editor's map generator, I have very pronounced clusters of the same resource, with up the 8 or so being in quite close proximity. Now those are on Hugh+ maps. The problem with that is since I modify the value of the luxuries, the effect on a city that contains most of them is extremely pronounced as well. The same thing shows up with bonus resources on my Hugh+ maps. That does not occur with strategic resources however. Those are always widely dispersed. I do need to qualify that, as even on a Hugh+ map, allowing say 16 civilizations, I will still have continents that do not have all of the strategic resources, with rubber, oil, and uranium typically being the ones most likely to have be located on perhaps half of the land masses.

Reminded me of Space Invaders....

Now that is one WEIRD screen shot.

It is. Here is my theory. The city screen, the age change pop-up screen, as well as the tile production indication (food/shield/gold) are 3 different layers on top of the map. The normal order is map, city, tile usage. In the picture, the age change screen was there first, on top of the map (I broke into the big picture), and then the city screen opened "normally" assuming it needed to be on top of whatever it is that is there (this explains why you do not see the complete age change pop-up), and then the tile production was added on top of that (explains why you see the tile prouction but not the tiles itself).

It will be interesting to see if you encounter it again. I assume that you are on a Windows machine. I will have to watch to see if anything like that occurs on one of my Macs.

this of course depends on which vc i´d want to go for and what the world settings are.

for my usual fast rex, then (more or less) fast dom or con, i would probably settle in place for a settler factory, leaving 2ne for a worker factory.

WOW  A dream of a start

I would settle on the spot, as you can get all bonuses into your BFC. Usually I would settle on a non BG of course, but in this case

It's one of a bunch of starts I have for a Huge Emperor milkrun. It's a pangaea map with a large Domination Limit (39xx)
What I eventually decided to do in this case was to move onto the Gold Hill. Obviously I had to wait a few turns before I could use the cow, but soon enough I had two four-turners.
At the moment the game is on hold because I have an even better start. :smug:

Now Bartleby... that is just plain mean... knowing the starts I usually get :(

:lol::lol::lol:

If it's any consolation I had another look over the start in the screenshot and decided there wasn't enough grassland nearby for my liking, the nearest iron was quite far away and there weren't any luxuries close by.

ok then... all is forgiven
