Hi Choxorn,

usually I am against unnecessary violence, but in this case you could be right and it is necessary violence. :D

But there are no more Knights and Dromons around.

Well, Ironclads and Cavalry work just as well as Knights and Dromons.

The german shortcut KI for AI means "Künstliche Intelligenz" (artificial intelligence), but sometimes I assume that it must be "Keine Intelligenz" (no intelligence). ;)

Three babylonian galley sailed past my eastern fleet and one of them dropped of a spearman and a swordman next to Rostov (where I quickly united several Guerillia, Cavalry and one Artillery, thanks to my railroad system).

Next round Hammurabi declared war and assaulted Rostov with his lone swordman. Must I really describe the result of the short land battle? :D

I do not know if there were additional troops on his other two galleys, since there were also one Battleship, one Dreadnought (slower coal burning battleship), two Cruisers and one Destroyer of my fleet present.

It must be "Keine Intelligenz"! ;)

Excerpt from the Babylonians Times

It was a cool fall morning when the Babylonian galley Nebuchadnezzar issued a mayday and requested assistance via courier pigeon; it would seem that their astrolabe had ceased to function correctly. Lost at sea, the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar dispatched a landing party on Celtic lands to ask for directions. To the horror of the ship's captain the Celtic guerillas that inhabited the city of Rostow senselessly opened fire upon the approaching Babylonian legion of swordsmen, turning them into a gooey paste with a consistency of crushed watermelon.

The other half of the landing party, a brave band of spearmen, realizing that the Celts were NOT the peaceful race that the Babylonians believed them to be, took refuge in the Rostov Forest, a horrible place full of wild animals and inedible plants. An emissary was sent to scout the Celtic position and, if deemed wise, approach them with an offer of peace by spitting on their feet. Clearly this emissary failed to secure a truce.

Starving and exposed, the huddling spearmen were shocked by an opening barrage from a battery of Celtic artillery that tore bloody holes in the ranks of the brave Babylonians. Horrified and bewildered they tried to reform but it was no use. Celtic cavalry shattered the surviving formation with deadly accurate fire from their repeating rifles.

Fearing for his ship and crew (and certain that the Celts were insane bloodthirsty monsters) the Nebuchadnezzar quickly set out to sea to prevent the barbaric Celts from seizing them in port.

It would seem that luck was with the Nebuchadnezzar, however, because the galleys Cyrus and Cambyses were in the immediate area carrying relief supplies. The galleys pulled together to fix the Nebuchadnezzar's dysfunctional astrolabe (which was the root of this entire misunderstanding).

While the Cyrus' marines - the 5th Legion of Swords - rendered assistance the sky began to rain fire as behemoth Celts ships of war breeched the morning fog like iron dragons full of hell and fury. The archers aboard the Cambyses attempted to return fire but their arrows were like needles against the great ships of battle produced by the Celts.

Two days after the battle the galley Sargon picked up a handful of survivors that told the entire story to this humble reporter. Sadly all envoys to the Celts have failed and we are now in a state of war with this wild and barbaric people. I would caution all Babylonian citizens to avoid contact with the Celts and for the sake of the gods, don't ask for directions!

Excerpt from the Entremont Courier

"The city of Rostov today played host to one of the most senseless conflicts in the history of warfare. Following terse negotiations between the Celtic government and King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon regarding the ownership of oil deposits off of the Celtic island outpost of Ioriim, an armed troop of Babylonian warriors appeared along the Rostov coast, with obviously malicious intentions.

The invading army, numbering around 50,000 heavily armed and armored Babylonian heavy infantry (according to eyewitness accounts), landed roughly 6:00 AM this morning just outside the city boundaries. The savage warriors massacred the workers of a lumber mill within Rostov Forest, leaving none alive save the badly wounded owner, whom the Babylonians had sent as a courier to request the unconditional surrender of Rostov.

The Celtic army did not take kindly to this act of terrorism.

In a statement before an emergency press conference in Entremont, President Brennus affirmed "We do not negotiate with terrorists. The actions of the Babylonian government, as heinous as they are, will be dealt with swiftly and harshly, starting with the removal of Babylonian troops from the vicinity of Rostov through any means necessary."

Celtic artillery opened fire on the savages, blowing through their ranks like knife through butter. Meanwhile, off the coast, the Celtic navy successfully wiped the primitive Babylonian ships from existence, rendering the invading army without hope of rescue.

The Babylonian army was destroyed in a series of rapid attacks by the brave Celtic Home Guard by noon today.

A state of open war now exists between the Celtic Government and the warmongering people of Babylon. Sign up at your nearest recruitment center to bring the fight to the Babylonians and their own people!"

ahem, "Screenshots" or sth like that are to be expected due to the forum title...

Hi,

I just tested the Modern Infantry (replacing the somewhat strange Mechanzied Infantry) and then out of curiosity placed every available ship into the game.

As You can see I have replaced several ships with some of the excellent work from wyrmshadow, aaglo and others. ;)

1. Row

AEGIS Cruiser
Nuclear Submarine
Carrier (Shokaku Class)

2. Row

Transport (Britannic Class) - I just hate the standard transport
Destroyer (Kagero Class)
Battleship (Vanguard Class) - Cannon range set to 3 and additional hitpoint
Dreadnought (Helgoland Class (18/12/4)) - Available with Steel, required coal and iron. Cannon range set to 2 and additional hitpoint
Cruiser (Scharnhorst Panzerkreuzer Class)
Q-Ship (5/1/5) - Industrial Privateer
Submarine

3. Row

Man O´War (4/2/5)
Privateer (2/1/5)
Corvette (2/2/5) - Cheap Escort with no need for iron and salpeter, otherwise the AI tended to keep their Galleons at port without escort.
Galleon
Frigate (3/2/5)
Large Frigate (3/3/5) - replaced the Frigate for the Americans
Ironclad (Warrior Class (5/6/4))

4. Row (just eye candy ;))

Junk - replaced Caravel for asian cultures
Mediterran Galley - replaced Caravel for mediterran cultures
Caravel
Carrack

5. Row (except for Longship also just eye candy)
Longship - replaced Galley for Vikings and can travel at sea without lighthouse
Cog - replaced Galley for northeuropean cultures
Dromon
Galley
Curragh - currently not in use, since the AI now uses it as escort for newer ships. This seems to be, because it can no longer be upgraded, as I did not find a way to upgrade into four different units.

Erm... methinks you have the words "row" and "column" mixed up. Row is everything in a horizontal line, Column is everything in a vertical line.

Nice ships, though. :)

Oops! Sorry, I am not a native english speaker.

And I am still adding and replacing ships (and some other units). Just replaced the Firaxis Carrack by the beauty from Orthanc. ;)

I like the ships from wyrmshadow, but it is a shame that they are so small compared to most of the other ships. Most details just vanished. :(

So, I was messing around with the editor, genning worlds and looking around for interesting features. Well, I found this uninhabited island. Good news: There are lots of whales to the west and to the southeast, all in a line! Bad news: only one of the whales in the west is even accessible thanks to the mountain range on the coast, and none of the whales in the southeast are accessible. Way to go, resource generator!

I have been known to refuse a map that makes that kind of nonsense. I am so tired of maps that either get you a river OR a hill OR a coast OR a food bonus.

This calls for using the Editor to flatten that island out a bit.

It's rather stupid that one of the civilizations in the game are the Incas, but the game disallows settlement in mountain terrain. :crazyeye: That's just one example among many...what bozos.

The editor is what saved this game.

....I would not want that island as my starting location.

<reloads>

Well, most civilizations that aren't the Incas didn't build many cities in Mountains. :p

Of course, if you want to be able to, you could always just play the Mesoamerica scenario.

Well, I guess the ones that didn't have mountains within their territory didn't build cities in mountains.

Or simply check the "allow cities" box for mountain terrain in the editor. I realize that checking a box requires extraordinary intellectual prowess and would require a supreme heroic effort. Something a mortal human may not be up to. ;)

For some people, this is complicated. I know because I used to be one of those people. With all due respect, maybe it would be more help to explain this than to belittle those that are not as knowledgeable in the subject as you.
