Interesting Screenshots

Hey, be fair now, I have to open the editor and click a few things. It's not worth the effort just to build cities on mountains, man.

Apparently, a major event in the history of the Steampunk Universe was the Czech conquest of Sweden. :crazyeye:

Spoiler :
And yes, I know that the Bohemians were a 19th century subculture.

Congratulations. Always interesting to test the VC's.

Good work Kirejara! Always exciting to beat a new difficulty level!

Thanks, but I must admit, that Regent is to stressful for my taste.

I will (at least in the near future) return to warlord or relax at chieftain. ;)

There were to many (and mostly unprovoked) wars during most of the time.

At least the most aggressive and next developed nation, the Aztecs (green) finally stopped their near constant sneak attacks after I developed Rockety and stationed about 20 Jet Bombers within range of most aztec cities. :trouble:

Their most advanced unit would have been the Cavalry, but I took their only horse resource long before. :D

I've never liked Warlord (never played chieftain) because the AI is too bad to give anything in return.
Playing Warlord felt like being Usain Bolt running vs children.

I usually play warlord at highest aggression. Just the right amount of action for me. The aggression counter it seems adds a lot to how the AI acts.

Hi,

I have added Pirates as landbased version of the Privateer (3/2/1, hidden nationality, astronomy) in my game. At first I thought that I would regret it, as the AI really enjoyed harassing my coastal cities, as their Pirates can attack my cities in peace, while mine can not.

But then I captured Bejing in order to get salpeter. I discovered the fun with my Pirates. ;)

11487014jo.jpg

Settlers can not build cities in tundras or desert. Bejings cultural border shrinked after their capture and leaves some places for another city (or so the AI thougth :D ). And soon dutch, indian and iroquese settlers with escort trailed to Bejing, there they were allready awaited by four pirates...

I learned the hard way, that I have to immediately shelter my pirates with regular units after their attack to avoid counter attacks.

But then finally my cultural border expanded over all habitable places, I captured some 20 workers, while loosing one pirate. Three Galleons were busy ferrying most of the workers to my home land.

After that I placed a new city in the north west of Bejing.

And now I nearly regret, that I build cultural buildings in Bejing... ;)

The Dutch are a bit of a weird tribe... While other races would go plundering their cities during Anarchy, the Dutch they go & celebrate the King after a few turns AND then take up their studybooks :goodjob:

So proud of them :king:

That's because specialists still work during anarchy. :p

That sounds like fun.
I never liked having no action at all during peace time. I love privateers, but they are too weak - they lose their effect quickly.

Is it difficult to add the pirate unit into the game?

It does take some knowledge of the game's mechanics to work. ;)

Excerpt from the Babylonians Times
Spoiler :

It was a cool fall morning when the Babylonian galley Nebuchadnezzar issued a mayday and requested assistance via courier pigeon; it would seem that their astrolabe had ceased to function correctly. Lost at sea, the captain of the Nebuchadnezzar dispatched a landing party on Celtic lands to ask for directions. To the horror of the ship's captain the Celtic guerillas that inhabited the city of Rostow senselessly opened fire upon the approaching Babylonian legion of swordsmen, turning them into a gooey paste with a consistency of crushed watermelon.

The other half of the landing party, a brave band of spearmen, realizing that the Celts were NOT the peaceful race that the Babylonians believed them to be, took refuge in the Rostov Forest, a horrible place full of wild animals and inedible plants. An emissary was sent to scout the Celtic position and, if deemed wise, approach them with an offer of peace by spitting on their feet. Clearly this emissary failed to secure a truce.

Starving and exposed, the huddling spearmen were shocked by an opening barrage from a battery of Celtic artillery that tore bloody holes in the ranks of the brave Babylonians. Horrified and bewildered they tried to reform but it was no use. Celtic cavalry shattered the surviving formation with deadly accurate fire from their repeating rifles.

Fearing for his ship and crew (and certain that the Celts were insane bloodthirsty monsters) the Nebuchadnezzar quickly set out to sea to prevent the barbaric Celts from seizing them in port.

It would seem that luck was with the Nebuchadnezzar, however, because the galleys Cyrus and Cambyses were in the immediate area carrying relief supplies. The galleys pulled together to fix the Nebuchadnezzar's dysfunctional astrolabe (which was the root of this entire misunderstanding).

While the Cyrus' marines - the 5th Legion of Swords - rendered assistance the sky began to rain fire as behemoth Celts ships of war breeched the morning fog like iron dragons full of hell and fury. The archers aboard the Cambyses attempted to return fire but their arrows were like needles against the great ships of battle produced by the Celts.

Two days after the battle the galley Sargon picked up a handful of survivors that told the entire story to this humble reporter. Sadly all envoys to the Celts have failed and we are now in a state of war with this wild and barbaric people. I would caution all Babylonian citizens to avoid contact with the Celts and for the sake of the gods, don't ask for directions!

Excerpt from the Entremont Courier
Spoiler :

"The city of Rostov today played host to one of the most senseless conflicts in the history of warfare. Following terse negotiations between the Celtic government and King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon regarding the ownership of oil deposits off of the Celtic island outpost of Ioriim, an armed troop of Babylonian warriors appeared along the Rostov coast, with obviously malicious intentions.

The invading army, numbering around 50,000 heavily armed and armored Babylonian heavy infantry (according to eyewitness accounts), landed roughly 6:00 AM this morning just outside the city boundaries. The savage warriors massacred the workers of a lumber mill within Rostov Forest, leaving none alive save the badly wounded owner, whom the Babylonians had sent as a courier to request the unconditional surrender of Rostov.

The Celtic army did not take kindly to this act of terrorism.

In a statement before an emergency press conference in Entremont, President Brennus affirmed "We do not negotiate with terrorists. The actions of the Babylonian government, as heinous as they are, will be dealt with swiftly and harshly, starting with the removal of Babylonian troops from the vicinity of Rostov through any means necessary."

Celtic artillery opened fire on the savages, blowing through their ranks like knife through butter. Meanwhile, off the coast, the Celtic navy successfully wiped the primitive Babylonian ships from existence, rendering the invading army without hope of rescue.

The Babylonian army was destroyed in a series of rapid attacks by the brave Celtic Home Guard by noon today.

A state of open war now exists between the Celtic Government and the warmongering people of Babylon. Sign up at your nearest recruitment center to bring the fight to the Babylonians and their own people!"

 These are great! Both excellent write-ups and great examples of opposing viewpoints.

Hi,

Is it difficult to add the pirate unit into the game?
I agree with Meteor Man.

The first units are difficult to add, but once you have figured it out, it is relativ easy.

I learned from this tutorial: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=71114

and used this Pirate: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=15059

And as usual, if you change anything, make a backup first! ;)

Oh, and editing opens also a new life for the naval privateer.

With Massproduction one can build Q-Ships as industrial privateers in my scenario. :D

11501515ef.jpg

After the destruction of a celtic convoy the Q-Ships "Ronin" and "Ghitu" (former celtic Corvette) make a run for the save harbour of Edo with the celtic Ironclad "King Arthur" in hot pursuit.

Hi Meteor Man,

no, they are called Q-Ships, but the active ship has got the individual name "Ronin".

I like to name my ships, armies and heros.

My four aircraft carriers are named "IJN Shokaku", "IJN Zuikaku", "IJN Kaga" and "IJN Akagi". I finished with a cultural victory just before "IJN Soryu" and "IJN Hiryu" entered service. ;)

Did they ever bomb any small American islands where a lot of ships were? :mischief:

@kirejera:
In post n°3649, you mentioned this:
"Curragh - currently not in use, since the AI now uses it as escort for newer ships. This seems to be, because it can no longer be upgraded, as I did not find a way to upgrade into four different units."

Now, I'm only a beginnning modder - and that's rules/stats etc only- but I made the Curragh the pirateship of ancient time. I placed it a bit further on the tech tree (mathematics), but it upgrades to the standard Privateer. The AI loves these little buggers, and if you give the barbarians this one in place of the galley, prepare for some very rough seas :)

So, you think you could release your mod? Partly, because I am too damn lazy to add units into the game myself :p , but hey...
