Interesting Screenshots

I don't recognize that graphic ruin. Is that for a volcano or something else?

I once had a graphic for pollution that looked a bit like that but I'm not sure.

looks like there is pollution (of a different graphic) on top of the Civ ruins

EDIT: hehe, post 7/11

Yep it's a ruin covered by pollution (from a volcano). The volcano is to the west, not quite in sight yet.

Ah, well, you have more room to expand.
On the other hand so do China's other neighbors.

so the volcano destroyed it?! I've never heard of such a thing.

I've seen it happen a few times. And it's not the only thing I've seen volcanoes do. I was recently playing the Rise of Rome conquest and the volcano on Sicily went active. A few turns later Carthage landed an invasion force next to Messana, the Roman city on Sicily. The volcano erupted immediately, lava flowing into the square occupied by the Carthaginians, wiping them out before my turn came up.

lol They were pwned!

I did go looking and they did irrigate from the lake. I thought I had been there recently with the Indian war but time flies when you are having fun so as Emily Litella would say... Nevermind!

I posted these pics in the AI cheating thread but I think it could go here as well. Two pics of the same area... one is clean map and the other is the game shot

Where does the water come from to irrigate Gergovia?

:crazyeye:

From the inland lake by the look of it. Your map isn't updated of their territory is it? I beleive it possible to irrigate from an inland sea if they make a line of irrigation from the sea to Gergovia.

then show me the line of irrigation. They are at least three tiles from the inland sea and there is no irrigation trail from that source. Can I just irrigate without starting at the inland sea if it is nearby?

That picture was taken in game at that point in the game. It is exactly what I saw and what got me to wondering about how they had irrigated. The two pics were taken at the same time. I cleared the map for the first pic and put it all back for the second because I knew I was going to post it here for discussion.

I don't remember if that is the original city on that spot. it may have been an Indian location but no one had taken the time to pillage any squares in that war. I could check an earlier save to see what was there before (if anything).

Have you seen into the fog E and SE of that town? Perhaps those desert tiles are irrigated. The clean map wouldn't show improvements that are still in the fog, I think.

EDIT: After taking a peek on the "Caught the AI cheating" thread, I see that others have posted the same thought I just had...

I think silver has a point. In the above pic there's no way to tell if the Celts had a line of irrigation coming in to Georgovia through the south, southeast, or east tiles (remember once irrigation reaches a city it can be continued on the opposite side). The clear map you have above would not show the irrigation if it was constructed after you last explored the terrain. So in answer to your question:
Can I just irrigate without starting at the inland sea if it is nearby?
no, but they may have made the trail since the last time you updated your map. This of course all depends on whether you really did have an outdated map...

[edit] seems I have cross-posted with someone on another thread. :crazyeye:

Yep, y'all are correct. I'll edit the first post on this to explain the correction.

Here's the Carthaginian leader with some self-mocking humour, when down to just 2 cities... Taking a look at those scary mutton-chops he has, I don't think I'll take him up on the suggestion.

I didn't think anyone had seen that film back in 1782.

that's a good one

Now I've got one of those too:

Then another thing, I've captured two cities that both had this going on (from the city screen):
barbarianou3.jpg

There's a barbarian citizen. How weird is that?! I guess the AI must've added a slave to the city's population. Interestingly, the barbarian is dressed in American clothes, and this was the American part of the world. Do citizens from different barbarian tribes get different clothing, according to their culture group?

Of course she wants more, you don't have silks! :p

What are those two resources at the end?

tobacco

oops need more letters

Some amusing diplo after I forced the Bulgarians to pay me tribute. I declared war on them the same turn for being so untrustworthy....

The next one is of the Byzantines building a road for me.
