And welcome back!

When we last left off, the Russians and Dutch spawned, and the chaos of the Russian's arrival resulted in the collapse of Greece. Also, the barbarians began to move again, taking the Carthaginian city of Sabratha. Now onto today's action!

Turn 185: First off, I meet India for the first time:
c2nw.png

Also, the Carthaginians, the last nation in Africa, decide that they've had enough of the barbarians in their territory, and not only do they settle Rusadir, but they also retake Sabratha:
kff.png

Turn 186: The Tibetan people declare their independence from their Indian overlords:
p39.png

Things aren't looking too good for India. They expanded too fast, and now they're paying the price.

Turn 187: Well, this is turning ugly, isn't it?
qemq.png

This could be very bad for Carthage, unless they can quickly retake Sabratha again.

Also, the Vikings expand again, founding the city of Lulea:
up6c.png

Does anyone know why the Vikings tend to create so many cities so close together? It seems like such a waste.

In addition, the British settle Belfast in Northern Ireland:
84l7.png

You know what would be awesome? If the Brits also found Dublin, and then instability causes Dublin to form an independent Ireland. :D

Turn 188: For once, we have nothing happening, although a couple of barb horse archers are in Babylon, near Khalpe (only defended by a catapult atm).

Turn 189: The Russians use their final starting settler to found city number six - Kostroma:
2j8w.png

At least the Russians aren't making their cities absurdly close together.

Turn 190: The Mali have spawned, and have founded the legendary city of Timbuktu:
8wm5.png

Turn 191: 1000 A.D. has arrived! And with it, look at this:
x3r4.png

:D Well, what do you know! An independent Ireland! :D Bonus points for the Brits controlling Northern Ireland through Belfast. It's like modern times, only 1000 years too early.

As we have reached 1000 A.D., this seems like a good idea to end the update. Next time, we will be preparing for the arrival of several new nations, including the Portuguese, Inca, and of course, the Mongols. Stay tuned!

Whenever you show the Vikings, there are always some Romans around. What's with that?

Also, I couldn't help noticing that Ath Cliath (Dublin) doesn't have any units in it. Will some magically appear, do you think, in the two turns it will take the Brits to get there (if they get a spare unit that is)?

I don't know what's up with the Romans in Scandinavia. I'm as confused as you are. :dunno:
About Ireland, I seriously doubt they'll be able to get someone there in time. Perhaps I should WB some mech infantry in Ath Cliath for protection? :D

that town is NEVER taken in my rfc games, there was this one game as the ottomans where i didn't trade maps and by the time conquered my way to england it was STILL there and it was UNDEFENDED with NO english vessels in site

Look closely. Was it still a Celtic city? You can tell Celtic cities by the fact that the population count is the color green. Independent cities have that number be white. Is it possible that the British captured it, but lost it to instability before you first saw it? That situation has happened in several of my games.

I've seen Celtic Dublin in DoC in the 1900s and England still hasn't conquered it.

i wonder why the ai never conquers that pesky thing?

Welcome back!

When we last left off, the Carthaginians continued their struggle with the barbarians, with Sabratha changing hands between them, the Indians lost Tibet due to instability, and the Mali (and Irish) arrived to the world. Now for today...

Turn 192: Lots of borders changing this turn. We start off with the Carthaginians, who have once again retaken Sabratha:
p7xp.png

Also, the Romans, finally free of the barbarians that nearly destroyed them some time ago, are trying to rebuild, by refounding the city of Vindobona:
11bd.png

I seriously doubt that that one independent swordsman SE of Vindobona can take down a Roman Praet and an Axeman.

Plus, the Mali have majorly expanded, settling both Djenne and Wagadugu (to the SW and SE of Timbuktu, respectively):
n6cw.png

Turn 193: No cities changed hands this turn, but we have an update in foreign relations:
sqlb.png

So Carthage, on top of its conflict with the barbs and Romans, also finds itself at war with Spain. It seems like everyone west of Asia is wanting to jump on the bandwagon, considering Carthage can barely hold off the barbs. If the Arabs decide to jump on the bandwagon as well, this could get very bad for Carthage.

Turn 194: For the first time, the natives of Africa have founded a city of their own, forming Quelimane (that actually happened three turns ago, but I didn't notice it until now):
wd1u.png

Turn 195: The barbarians continue their attacks on Carthage, with two War Elephants besieging the city of Sabratha. The barbs have gained that city twice, and lost it as many times, and they're trying to gain control of it again. Two catapults defend Sabratha. An archer was defending as well, but it looks like it lost to a war elephant.

Turn 196: Well, we've got another war between Babylon and Arabia! No moves yet, but we'll see how this one turns out.

Turn 197: Apparently, the Indians are determined to expand as much as they can. They have now settled the city of Yangon, where Pagan used to be before it was destroyed by barbs:
4qmb.png

Turn 198: Several battles occurred this turn, but all offensives ended in failure. The barbs tried and failed to retake Sabratha from Carthage, the natives failed to take Independent Aksum (Aksum is doing better now than when it was actually Ethiopia ), and the Arabs tried and failed to take Babylonian Khalpe, though Khalpe only has one defender now.

Turn 199: Well, so much for an Independent Tibet...
9q53.png

That would be China's ninth city. The only other nations with more than five cities at the moment are Japan and Russia, each with six, and India, who has seven.

Turn 200: Carthage has finally beaten off the siege of Sabratha, and to celebrate, they have also expanded, founding the city of Lpqy (where in the world did they get that name ):
g2m5.png

All right, as we have reached the 200 turns mark, now is a good time to stop. Next time, we'll hopefully see several new nations spawn, and we'll hopefully see some action in the Arab-Babylonian war. Stay tuned!

move to Lpqy now! where you have no barb defences !

I'm surprised about how Babylon has survived up to this point. I've played a lot of Vanilla RFC, and I've never seen them survive past the Persians.

i once played a game where babylon ruled like all of africa and europe... i was the turks :D

edit: oops, it wasn't europe and africa, it was europe and North africa :D

And I have returned!

Sorry for the delay. I had a lot of things to do over the weekend, but I have finally found some free time. When we last left off, the Romans began to recover from their battles with the barbs, the Arabs and Babylonians went to war, and the Carthaginians had a lengthy battle with the barbs over control of Sabratha, with the city changing hands several times, with the Carthaginians winning out in the end.

We start out today with turn 201, 1100 A.D., where, unfortunately, nothing seems to happen. As for turn 202, the barbs try and fail to capture the Babylonian city of Khalpe. Meanwhile, the Arabs, despite being at war with Babylon, seems to want to simply shuffle their camel archers around. I know Babili is well defended, but the only unit in any of their cities that has a good shot at taking down a camel archer are their spearmen. What could the Arabs be doing? Babylon is already unstable, and taking Babili would probably send the Babs packing.

Turn 203:
dw32.png

Uh oh...
Just so you know, that's Carthage's newest city, Lpqy (some know it as Leptis Magna) 1 tile north of those barb war elephants.

Also, the Khmer have founded their fourth city, Singapura:
zwj3.png

Turn 204: I start off with an open borders agreement with India. Why not?
We have our second native city, Mombasa:
w23.png

Oh, no!
8cuw.png

And another city is razed by the barbs. Apparently, they didn't want to go through with the trouble of keeping it after Sabratha (actually, I think it was auto-razed due to game mechanics, it being new, culture-less, and having a population of 1). I've lost count of how many cities have been razed by the barbs.

Turn 205: Say hello to the last of the European nations, Portugal!
lgjm.png

With the founding of Lisbon, all of the European nations has arrived. Of course, three more nations are to founded within the next few turns (Inca, Mongols, and Aztecs), and the Turks aren't too far away, either. Assuming the Babylonians are still around by that point, their true struggle will begin there, as they will be surrounded by three powerful (maybe not in the case of Persia) nations that hate them.

Turn 206: Nothing really happens here, but just in case I forgot to mention it (I have a sneaking suspicion I did), the native city of Tucume has been founded in South America (no pics, sorry). With the Inca due to form their first city next turn, it should be interesting to see how this city does against them.

Turn 207: As stated above, the Inca have arrived and have founded their capital of Qusqu:
jucj.png

Oh, great...
clb2.png

Guess the Koreans don't take too kindly to being called slaves, do they?

And that's it for this update. Next time, we'll see the rise of the Mongol hordes  and the Aztecs of Mexico (now I'm very glad I'm on an island and across the ocean :p). Stay tuned!

Hey, if the Mongols can take down China and take it for themselves (which they seem to accomplish more times than I care for), they can be a force to be reckoned with. After all, China is, one of the best starting positions in the game.

taking china is good, but it's not mongol good
