once again, the pictures explain it all

Okay, okay! I can plainly see that I'm not winning this one, so I'm just giving up right now.

i don't mean to be the grumpy old troll who lives under the thread(), but doesn't mongolia usually vassalize china instead of conquering them?

In my experience, I've seen that happen once (maybe twice), and I've played well over 50 vanilla RFC games. Usually, either the Mongols take Beijing and the Chinese collapse, the Mongols fail to take Beijing (leading to a much later collapse by China or a stalemate in East Asia) or (very rarely as well) the Mongols get their butts kicked by China.

okay then :)

Welcome back!

When we last left off, the Portuguese and Inca arrived, and the Carthaginians continued their struggle with the barbarians, with their new city of Lpqy being razed to the ground. And on to today's action...

Turn 208: We start off with news from the Iberian Peninsula, as the Portuguese have founded their second city of Oporto:
7lz0.png

As a side note, anyone think it's funny that Portugal now looks like a rectangle?

Turn 209: Here's an interesting one that I know I have never seen before: the Babylonian founding of Dur Untash:
99xq.png

I have never seen this one before, probably because it is rare that Shush is razed as early as it was in this one. I have also never seen Babylonia do so well before. Usually, they are gone by now, but they are still going strong. Helping out is the fact that the Babs are no longer at war with Arabia; that war apparently ended with a white peace.

Turn 210: Another city founding, this time the Viking city of Goteborg:
s3g.png

It looks like the number 5 is the magic number here, as the English, Vikings, Romans, Arabs, Babylonians, and Persians all have five cities. Carthage briefly had five cities as well, but Lpqy was razed by barbs last episode, so now they are down to four.

Turn 211: The Inca have settled their second city, Ariqipaya:
3fv7.png

And we arrive to the moment you've all been waiting for, the Mongols:
0jdg.png

As you can see, the Chinese have now just finished construction of the famous Great Wall... just in time for the Mongols to overrun it.

Turn 212: Hey, Genghis. Get that ugly face out of mine, will you?
s391.png

As you can see in the pic (if you can look past Genghis' ugly face, that is ), Mongolia is at war with China from the get-go. And this is why:
7wx7.png

Ouch. A full third of China's cities - and military - flipped to Mongolia, one of them being their prize city of Shenyang. Yeah, this is probably going to end badly for China.

But we're not done this turn, as we have a new nation to welcome - the Aztecs!
21qf.png

Also, the Mayans (as you can see above) have been busy as well, founding their fourth city, Olximche. Quite a busy turn, hasn't it? At least now we have a war that's bound to be interesting, as if the Mongols capture Beijing, it's lights out for China.

Turn 213: NO.
5cib.png

I really hate these war requests. They get very annoying if you're trying to avoid war.

Onto Europe, the Spanish have created their first overseas colony, Ceuta in North Africa.
34uj.png

I wonder if this could spark a war between Spain and Carthage.

And with that rather anticlimactic note, we end one of the most interesting (IMO) updates yet. Next time, we'll see the continuation of the war between China and Mongolia, and of course, the rise of the Ottoman Turks. Stay tuned!

lol, just like in real life, the newly built great wall will FAIL at keeping out the mongols

true true...

It would be fun if the Mongols decided to try what Kublai failed to do: to conquer Japan.

if the ai can pull that off then i will run around referring to my self as "The Great And Powerful Supreme Bro-Pony Temujin"
dressed like this:

may the rng gods be on my side for this one!!!(not like they EVER are)

By the way, Babylon is doing really well. If they have survived so long, they migh even survive the Turks.

if it was DoC babylon would be Screwed with an italicized bold underlined capitol S, but this is vanilla so it's...

Hey, I'm not screwed in DoC! Then again, I got the Great Wall and the Grand Canal.

I know what you're saying, though.

A good way to be screwed early as Babylon. You have used all your four free wins against barbs and bam some Huluganni just spawned in the diagonal corner of Babylon. No money, no whip machine, no mercenaries...loss.

And Leoreth assumes Hittite Huluganni are fair. Nope I say. Even more if you play Egypt and capture Babylon because you ain't access to high culture layout in Babylon fast, thus augmenting the chances of badly located spawns of Hulugannis.

i once had a game of phoenicia where i started with one of those :3

i renamed it Derpy :D

And we return!

When we last left off, the Aztecs arrived to the world, as did the Mongols. Also, the Mongols have started off with a bang, adding three Chinese cities to their nation at the get-go, and a war has sprung up between them. And now, onto today's action!

On turn 214, we'll start with news on the war front between China and Mongolia:
ofp2.png

Well, China's not messing around, are they? Two turns into the war, and they have already taken back Baotou, and are in position to retake Shenyang. Unfortunately for them, the Mongols have what seems to be their whole army in range to attack them back.
Also, on to India, the Indians have had problems with their stability, and the result? Yangon (former Pagan) has declared independence:
ot45.png

Of course, with the city being completely undefended by anyone, this does not bode well for them, with India, the Khmer, or (less likely, considering the war) China able to take it without effort.

Turn 215: Screw you, Genghis. I'd like to see you try to defeat me!
ihmd.png

He decided to run back in terror. Take that, Genghis!

However, Genghis turns out to be better on the war front than on the diplomatic arena, as his forces have retaken Baotou:
b21d.png

Considering only two units are currently defending Beijing, the Chinese need to get more soldiers there, and fast. Otherwise, this could be a quick war.

Also, the Germans have expanded again, founding the town of Wilna near the border with Russia:
9ylb.png

Turn 216: The Mongols have beaten back the Chinese attempt to retake Shenyang, forcing the Chinese to withdraw back to Beijing. This war is going badly for China.

Also, we have two new cities in the New World. The Inca have settled Caqonatambu:
q0zu.png

Meanwhile, the Aztecs have settled Tuitan:
k1h6.png

As a side note, now it's the Aztecs that looks like a rectangle.

Turn 217: And Ireland has fallen...
93de.png

It appears that the Irish simply flipped to England due to being overwhelmed by English culture. Oh well... :( I think it's sad that Ireland is gone, I've always liked the place. Hopefully it'll be back someday.

Also, the Persians have finally done something! :woohoo: They have... settled Tureng Tepe:
lckh.png

Turn 218: Not much happened here. The Chinese are buffing up their defenses in Beijing, while the Mongols now seem to be more focused on moving their settlers to where they want to settle.

Turn 219: Looks like the Romans are tired of being on the defensive!
0cjt.png

Also, the Khmer have jumped at the opportunity the Indians have given them, and have taken the city of Yangon for their own:
6a6k.png

They didn't waste any time, did they?

And finally for this update, we have this. I know you saw it already, but to make it official, it's time to introduce...
6md6.png

The Turks.

And that's it for this update. Next time, we'll show the rise of the Ottoman Empire, as well as the outcome of the Chinese-Mongolian war, and we'll see if the Babylonians can continue to survive in this increasingly hostile world. Stay tuned!

lol, and rome had JUST got constantinopolis

maybe he'll get lucky like good ole justinian from my story :D

Welcome back!

When we last left off, the Mongols began a major war with China for control of East Asia (easily the most action packed war yet), Ireland finally fell to the English, and the Turks arrived on the scene. Now for today's action!

We start off with turn 220, which is 1290 A.D. The Turks have founded their capital, Sogut, in western Anatolia:

6yc.png

And for extra points, guess who's entire military (not quite, but almost) is conveniently located in a city that's about to flip to the Turks? Ouch.

Turn 221: ...Yeah...
eb9y.png

Ouch. If there's one thing to be said about the Turks, is that when they arrive, they have a tendency to really shake up the Middle East. Oh, and just so we're clear, the Babs DOW'ed them just when their entire military flipped to the Turks. Can you say, curb-stomp?

Another thing to be said on wars, a new one has sprung up between Spain and Carthage. Looks like my prediction at the end of last update was right on the money.

One other thing I spotted this turn. Look at this pic:
7q2i.png

Interesting mountain there, Qin Shi Huang. I don't think I've ever seen something like that before.

Turn 222: Unlike his previous "offer", this one's actually interesting.
3a4n.png

If I was actually playing an imperial game, I might actually take Genghis up on his offer, as China does have a lot of impressive cities. Too bad I'm staying out of wars of conquest in this one, so I declined.

As it turned out, nothing of importance really happened on this turn. The Mongols, despite being at war with (a collapsing) China, seems to be more interested in exploration than attacking and finishing off China. The Turks haven't yet moved against Babylonia, either.

Turn 223:  :wallbash: STAY AWAY FROM ME, GENGHIS!
yika.png

[pissed] I swear, if I wasn't playing a pacifist game, both of you would feel the blade of a samurai's katana!

The Mongols have founded two new cities - Ulaangom and Ning-Hsia:
ox7w.png

Turn 224: The Turks continue to expand, establishing the city of Sinop in northern Anatolia:
h00d.png

And, as you can see in the lower-right hand corner, the Babs in Ninua are about to get epically curb-stomped.

Turn 225: Update on the diplomatic front. The Chinese and the Mongols have made peace. Looks like the Chinese had kept the Mongol capital hostage in a sense, which apparently convinced the Mongols to make peace (That's just my reasoning. Who knows why the AI does the things it does?). Meanwhile, the Spanish are now at war with two nations: as previously stated, they are at war with Carthage, but also at war with their next-door neighbor, Portugal. The Babs and Turks are still at war, as are the English and Vikings. Here's the overview:
qy4.png

Bit hard to read, I know, which is the reason for my overview above.

One last thing before I end it. The next plague has arrived, and it's a doozy. It only arrived last turn, but it has already spread throughout all of Babylonia, half of Arabia, parts of Carthage, most of Germany and Rome, and even into Persia and France. Fortunately, it hasn't hit me (yet).

All right, that's it for this update. I know it's a bit on the short side, but my computer is doing weird, unexplainable things atm, so I'd better quit before it crashes and this entire update goes up in smoke. Stay tuned!

TUUUUUUUUUUUURKS! :aargh:

Good work so far. I thought about doing something like this as Babylon-in-Antarctica, but you've beaten me to it. :)

After this Japan round is over, you should try the next round of Interesting Times in DOC. It's a bit busier and less barb-heavy than vanilla RFC, so you'd probably see more interesting interactions between civs.
