Interesting Times - The AI Side of RFC

THE TURKEYS ARE COMING THE TURKEYS ARE COMING!!!

and also agree that you should do one in DoC, definitely better than vanilla rfc (those seljuks in DoC are CRAZY!!!)

TUUUUUUUUUUUURKS! :aargh:

Good work so far. I thought about doing something like this as Babylon-in-Antarctica, but you've beaten me to it. :)

After this Japan round is over, you should try the next round of Interesting Times in DOC. It's a bit busier and less barb-heavy than vanilla RFC, so you'd probably see more interesting interactions between civs.

I'd like to try out DoC, but my new computer is a bit (which means massively) :badcomp: when it comes to this game (which is a shame, considering it's my favorite PC game ), and already has enough troubles with the in-box version of Vanilla RFC. I'm afraid that if I install the DoC modmod and try to use it, it might blow my computer up.

It isn't much more intensive on the computer than regular RFC is. You could try it out for a bit first and see how it runs. :)

I might try it out once my current game is done. Of course, with college starting in a little over a week, I've no idea how much time I'll have for this story.

does someone need a muffin? go on, bite my avatar, it's chocolate chip

Welcome back!

When we last left off, the Ottoman Turks exploded onto the world scene, crippling Babylonia in a very short amount of time and quickly turning into a dominant force in the Middle East. Also, the Chinese-Mongolian war ended, and the Spanish began wars with both the Carthaginians and Portuguese. And now on to today's action!

We'll start off with a bang, as the Turks have not only captured Ninua, but they have razed it to the ground!
90g0.png

This pretty much makes it official: Babylon is doomed. With their stability now at collapsing, the Turks have just delivered the death blow to the Middle East's oldest civilization.

Also, the Vikings have been busy up in Scandinavia, founding two new cities - Narvik in the north and Stavanger in the south:

Turn 228: Despite it all, the Babs continue to fight on. They definitely have done far better than normal, but it's clear that their time is up.

Oh, no! :aargh:

I thought we were almost through with the barbs! They took advantage of the plague wiping out all of Sabratha's defenses to retake Sabratha! With the plague spreading all throughout Carthage and Spain, this is getting really bad. On the bright side for Carthage, at least Spain's colony of Ceuta is now undefended and easy pickings for Carthage. Something that I spotted that was humerous was that Spanish Cadiz was captured by Portugal... then immediately was left undefended due to the plague.

Turn 229: I finally meet Hammurabi... just in time to watch Babylon die.

The Germans continue to expand, having setting Helsingfors (Helsinki) in Finland:

You know what I find interesting about Germany here? At the moment, Germany looks a lot like the territory of the Teutonic Order - except that they have control of Finland, too. :D

Russia's been doing some expanding, too, by founding the city of Astrakhan:
hoht.png

Plus, Rome has been doing some expanding, too. Only this time, they expand by burning down instead of building up, by taking control of Athens:
gf0j.png

We also head into east Asia, where the Mongols have also been doing some expanding, by settling Chamsagbulag in the shadow of the Great Wall:
gf3w.png

Whew! Quite a busy turn, wasn't it?

Turn 230: And Babylon's suffering finally ends...
qrgt.png

The pressure from the Plague and the Turks has finally caused the Babs to collapse. The Arabs apparently inherited Dur Untash, leaving a plague racked, lightly defended, independent Babylon on its own to fight off the Ottoman military. Here's to hoping that when it falls, the Turks show mercy. But mercy or not, one thing is certain: the Babylonians are no more.

Moving on, the Carthaginians have managed to retake Sabratha, re-establishing the status quo in Africa. Meanwhile, as the final act of this update, the Germans expand again, forming their sixth city in Wien (more commonly known as Vienna):
0kyx.png

And with that, this update comes to a close. Next time, we'll see if anything comes of Spain's war with Carthage, and if Spain can recover Cadiz from the Portuguese. I'm also watching central and eastern Europe, because space is quickly running out in that area. Stay tuned!

rip babylon(and hammurabi):

that's much longer than i plan to live

so is it *puts on shades* babylon 5:lol:

Welcome back, civvers!

When we last returned, the Babylonians finally collapsed, being overwhelmed by the rising Ottoman Turks. Also, another plague began spreading rapidly around the world. Fortunately, the plague has not spread to any of my cities (yet?). And now onto today's action!

We start off on turn 231, and predictably, we start off with the Turks capturing Babylon, now known simply as Babil:
j1qm.png

Also, the Arabs have founded the city of Saihut, to the east of Aden:
hjv2.png

Meanwhile, the Mali have been busy, settling the city of Sefadu on the Atlantic coast:
sy0e.png

Finally, the barbs have shown that they are not on the same side as the natives, by burning down native Tucume:
sv6n.png

Finally for this turn, I'll show you the foreign relations screen. For those that enjoy a little brain-teaser, here's a question for you: what do I find humorous about Spain's foreign relations?
dh6j.png

Turn 232: Strangely enough considering the last turn, nothing of importance happened here. Moving on...

Turn 233: Again nothing. If you ever wanted to sleep while reading, now is the time.

Turn 234: Another question for the masses: what's odd with this picture?
03lq.png

Maybe the Turks need to pay more attention to what their army consists of.

Turn 235: The Romans have made their very first moves into Africa, settling Berenice in modern-day Libya:
xj7j.png

Also, the Arabs have flipped the city of Djanet (now known as San el-Hagar) right before the Turks could make their attempt at the city. At least they get to keep their settler in this case.
yydg.png

Meanwhile, the Spanish have finally scored some points against the Portuguese, taking back Cadiz:
3lm3.png

Oddly enough, they waited until the Portuguese had actually defended the city before going for it. That could have backfired on them if their knights had failed. :shake:

Turn 236: The last act of this update comes out of Africa, where the Mali have founded their southernmost city, Accra:
jmjv.png

And that's it for this update. Next time, we'll see... well, this time I have no idea what will happen! :D Will there be a war for control of the Middle East? Will the Spanish be able (or willing) to resolve their two wars? Can Rome continue to survive as long as they have? Stay tuned!

a settler in an army... a haven't seen THAT since let's see... Civ 3

a settler in an army... a haven't seen THAT since let's see... Civ 3

Armies of Spearman/Settler groups walking through your territory... The nostalgia...

ah good ole civ 3... is it sad that i play civ 5 on the computer i use to play civ 3 on?

ah good ole civ 3... is it sad that i play civ 5 on the computer i use to play civ 3 on?

It is depressing. Civ 5 is an embarrassment to the rest of the civ series. It isn't horrible, but the core mechanics are so much worse than Civ 3 or Civ4.

IKR, it would make the game so much better if they made alex ask me to crush the world under his sandals with me...

I told you that the Babs would survive the Ottomans. But that wasn't the greatest prediction, a five year old could have done that. :/

but didn't good ole hammy go to the brave new world in the sky(aka died)?

Subbed even though I have no idea what's going on. :crazyeye:
