Invasion of Iran

This is purely hypothetical. Currently, Iran is an Islamic regime. Iran also characterizes Israel as the little Satan. After years of sneaking, Iran gets the bomb and manages to sweep into Israel undetected with full support of the Arab governments. The Jews lose all the power they had, and the nation regains its status as Palestine and becomes an Iranian colony. The Jews and Christians are being forceably removed by the Iranians and are relocated to Russia and Europe. NATO states they will attack Iran if they don't pull out in 5 months. Iran, which gets OPEC to pledge their support behind the Russian/Chinese bloc leading to Russian and Chinese support, threatens to detonate their bombs on all European captials and such. Now, you'll have to pretend here for a minute this can happen, because I know, it can't. But if it did, would you support the invasion of Iran to free Israel? I am just interested at the results since it is 50/50 in the other thread about doing this to Israel if they did something similar. Do you think the US would care that much about Israel if the oil kept flowing if they didn't?

If Iran will take over Israel I doubt I'll stay alive to show any opinion on the matter. However, the US will probably use Iraq and friendly arab countries in order to keep the oil flowing. Neither Russia nor China have the ability to do much fighting to far away, and with so many friendly countries around (Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, Iraq) NATO will easily land a force strong enough to destroy Iran and to retake Israel. Since Iran has a nuke, I would assume that NATO will probably be satisfied with retaking Israel and putting sanctions on Iran, or making very limited actions agaisnt them.

As with the other one, I voted undecided. I gernerally oppose war, but I might make an exception depending on how bad the circumstances were.

Iraq is unstable, and Iran has oil and large supplies of food, wood, etc. (no embargo). Turkey and Jordan would probably avoid intervening. Egypt has problems and would also go neutral. My guess is that the only option available to NATO would be diplomacy as Iran you say has the nuke in this situation. I would not support a US invasion as there is no telling what the Iranians would do in retaliation.

Iran will never be able to defeat Israel without the use of nukes/chemical/biological weapons, at least not in this century. So the question is really irrelevant.

Besides the fact that the Israelis would already have nuked the hell out of the Iranians, the U.S. would use cruise missiles to destroy the Iranian nukes and then starts a full-fledged conventional war against them. If things went really badly I could see tactical nuclear weapons being used.

Another objection: Russia and China aren't stupid, they know that if we really had to we could take over OPEC's oil, and so they wouldn't ally with them.

Arab nations rather destroy (i.e kill or convert) the population where they are conquering, not just deport them..

Also, in such a case (Israel is conquered/destroyed) I don't think there will be much population left in Iran ( ), so there won't be a reason to double kill them...

This scenario is way to improbable and frankly a bit far-fetched. Iran is quite a long way away from Israel. One would think that moving an army across half a continent wouldn't go unnoticed.

I'm with Gerrard on this one. Having a nuke and being able to deliver it are two entirely different things.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Iran's versions of announcing its joining of the nuclear club will be the conversion of one or more Israeli cities to air pollution and cinders, followed by an immediate descent into the Stone Age as Israeli bombs rain down on Iran from on high. It is a dangerously unstable regime that needs to be changed, just like every other Arab country except Qatar and Kuwaiit, and now Iraq and maybe Afghanistan.

Besides, Israel is very likely to have nukes too and considering how they handle stuff now, they'd probably use them. An invasion of Israel will be insanely costly.
