I only want a modern game. I think anything earlier than at lest early industiral would ruin the point of the game, but since I want to make sure my vote is counted, I'll go on and use the official format. With four being the one I want most:

4 - Modern
3 - Early Industiral
2 - Classical
1 - Medieval
0 - Reniassance

Medeval- 4

Modern- 3

Renaissance- 2

Classical- 1

Early Industrial- 0

I don't think anything besides a modern game would work, especially considering how war is conducted. Medieval warfare was extremely traditional, and involved sieges, and most of the time, was not for land grabs. Which means that combat will be even slower than it is now, with just taking a province. I can easily compare this to two Paradox games, if we go Medieval, we'd have to do sieges EU style, where it takes so many days for a city to succumb to hunger and give up. Or if we go Medieval, we'd have to do combat HOI style, where if an army goes into an enemy province, it takes the enemy province. And considering how slow the combat was just taking provinces, imagine how long it would take if we had to factor siege into it too... :crazyeye:

Well, obviously if we're going to do a medieval game we'd have to make it so that combat is not too long or tedious. The game's not real-time (like EU), it's turn-based, and we can always redesign the map to have less or more provinces.

Classical - 15
Medieval - 42
Renaissance - 36
Industrial - 32
Modern - 42

Tie breaker anyone?

By the way, after this IMHO we should decide on the map, the time scale, how the game starts, and how we model the economy, in that order. Combat should be left to last.

But the sieges! Oh god, I don't want to imagine the nightmare sieges will be!

We're not Paradox. We don't have to model the sieges that closely.

It depends on what kind of combat system we end up using. We could have combat similar to Civ4 where forts simply grants you defensive bonuses and you have siege units to reduce that.

Or, for something more complicated, say you have a province. The defender can build forts - level 1, level 2, and so on. As an attacker, you can choose to lay siege and each level of forts determine how long the city can hold out. As the siege grows longer, the defensive bonus for that city decrease, and you can choose to storm the fort if you want. And if you attack a province from, say, three different directions, you can simply overrun that province if the total attacking force is more than the number of defenders. Or we can have something else altogether.

Allowing vote-changes now will allow for tactical voting, I think.
