Everyone knows that Asia was never colonized.

Especially not India. Or Australia.
Oh yeah, it makes no sense to put a country like India or Indonesia on the map.
Its not as if India at one point India made up 76% of Britain's GDP (courtesy of my Grade 7 History Teacher) or the Dutch East Indies made up more then half of theirs.

I guess Asia shouldn't be on the map.

Although none of the European Powers were strong enough to hold India in the early 18th century they did try, and that is worth something.

I got it!

We can just say that we're playing as the West India Companies of all the nations. The East ones are tied up in Asia.

... the more I think about it, the more I realize that just the Americas would be really fun.

They didn't, actually. The building of forts and factories was done with accommodation with local rulers. Rarely would a European power or trading company actually use military force to subjugate a native kingdom, and often they'd just install a puppet ruler instead of annexing the territory, let alone trying to take all of India.

Of course this situation has changed completely by the end of the 18th century, with the British in control of Bengal and Madras, the Marathas on their last legs, and the Mughal Emperor reduced to a powerless puppet, so if the focus is in the 18th century you might want to include India and the East Indies on your map. The scope of the map should be similar to the one in Empire: Total War, covering Europe, the Americas, India, and parts of Africa, SE Asia and the Middle East, though you can leave out East Asia and the interior of Africa if the focus is on European countries. Also, you should make it possible to play as countries outside Europe too, but perhaps put them in a different "tech group" or something like that, and they must work to modernize to match European strength.

If the game begins in 1700, the potato has already reached Europe.

It begins in 1500 and ends in 1700.

I'll remove most potato sources except for 2, and make them worth more Food.

That's what I meant when I mentioned potatoes. They're worth more in food than gold.

What about a minimum turn thing to invade sub-Mediterranean Africa, or some special event?

I propose making northern (Mediterranean) Africa red, the reason behind this is that the portion of Europe open to play as is way to small, and only a couple of players can practically play with an area that small, another possibility is to open up the Americas a little for potential players to join as First Nations(but with limited expansion value) when Europe gets full almost immediately.

You can use the EU3 map (well I modified it a bit).

If there are too many provinces I'll merge some of them.

For the most part, the three largest IOTs are Revolution, Sons of Mars, and Enlightment with Resource Wars and Homefront being second tier.

Sons of Mars is not an IOT!

It starts out more openended like IOT, but blends it quite nicely with more EU3 themes, and an attempt to make diplomacy more fleshed out.

Though I am planning a new project I call, "The Tripolar World."

Blame the catalog for placing SoM under IOT. :p

The Revolution has come and gone and the New Age of Imperialism is coming. Imperial powers know that in order to increase their power and influence, they must use a new type of weapon to come on top. Diplomacy and military might alone can no longer make a regional power a major player in world affairs any longer. In this world, the Bank of the American League can be more powerful than missile silos in Cuba. In this world, a nation can control his neighbors through threats of not extending a loan instead of sending in the marines.

The Revolution will be swift. It will be merciless. It will make mortal men richer than the gods they worship.

Features:

  • Simple but robust World Economy that bend to players' actions
  • An intuitive Casus Belli system
  • Find NPC colonies on other continents to open up new markets
  • Build factories to increase your power
  • Powerful weapons of mass destruction
  • An economy system that allows older nations to increase the power of smaller, new ones
  • Use Gunboat Diplomacy to collect loans from nations threatening to not pay them
  • And More!
