IOT Developmental Thread

I suppose that works, but it does seem OOC for most... :p

Sonic's chaos incarnate. Him as an authority leader doesn't make much sense. :p

Short of them being corrupted, I don't see it happening.

Then again, I made Shadow a ruler in that alternate timeline, but with powers like that, why WOULDN'T you try to take over the world?

Anyway, due to it being lopsided, chances are no canon characters would feature, though the many regimes and countries would.

Eggman would probably exist as an insurgency that harasses all players, in video game fashion.

Speaking of IOT4: The Atrocity Adventure Continues, I'm thinking it'll go to air late April/early May. Income and improvements are on the chopping block, but I've been debating a slew of team projects focusing on space exploration. It may even become the first multi-map edition... :groucho:

I've also been thinking of using OFP for determining long-term, large-scale wars: instead of tedious individual battles, players fight over one broad battlefield with multiple units. It ups the stakes from a handful of provinces per turn to an entire theatre of war, and it (supposedly) lessens my workload while granting strategy to combat. tl;dr: condense twenty turns of tug-of-war into a couple turns' tactical planning. It would not be an outright replacement for RNG, and it would require opt-in by all involved belligerents.

Worth investigating?

That sounds good. I'd like to see more wars that are short, with mild border changes, but still have some point. Most wars either turn into long fights to the death with neither side backing down, or short with no actual conflict and end with one side backing backing down very quickly with white peace. Both of these bore me.

War's not a problem if you simply cap its use or make penalties for abusing it. War is the downfall of many an IOT for many players, so limiting it works nicely.

What about the kind where one side asks for peace and the other keeps steamrolling them?

I consider those under long fights to the death, but with one side backing down. They still tend to just be a headache for everyone not involved, as it results in huge spam wars between the two warring parties.

Perhaps a rule that people at war cannot directly address each other in the main thread. They have to keep the feuding PM's, VM's, and groups. The only communication they can have in the main thread would be attack orders and formal, final declarations of peace.

And then a World War breaks out, everyone's PM box overflows, the VMs have to be sent multiple times, and the only country not in it won't have any clue as to what's going on.

Not necessarily. Anything of substance could be posted in the main thread, but all the
"I'm better than you" "No, I'm better" "No you're not." "Yes I am, because I said so." "OMG Powuhgamah!!!" "No I'm not. My country is better than yours, and I just can't help it. That doesn't make me a powergamer!" "OMG, yes you are, and I just changed my country, so I'm better than you know. See, I just assassinated your president." "OMGWTFBBQ no you didn't, now your powahgaming. My president was actually a really well disguised robot, who I just unleashed on your country, so I win. Do you accept peace?" ... etc... etc...

stuff gets left out of the main thread. Formal declarations of alliances, wars, attacks, peace, defensive pacts, and anything else that might matter to a thrid party would be allowed in the main thread.

I thought it was established IOT exists for ego-stroking? If power x introduces some great monument or some new technology, everyone else must counter with something equally awesome.

Hence why I like an income system since you actually have to prove your worth rather than say "Oh I make x% of the economy."

If everyone is involved, then it doesn't bother me. If it's two people haveing a spammo-trollo-flame war, then I start to lose interest in the game.

The map for a new IOT, haven't finished India and Tibet/ Inner China, the provinces are made to be inaccurate, for two reasons, its the middle ages, mapping wasn't so we really dont know how accurate and I want you to fight over every piece of land, it will include resources and something that hasn't been in IOTs, trade missions.

Still working on tweaking the rules a bit, particularly regarding Religion and Free Trade Zones. Trying to decide on tech costs too, its a big map and I want lots of medium sized empires.

Should drop as you fill in more provinces. What IOT will this be for? I feel a little Napoleon coming on.

A new IOT Im working on, IOT World of Trade, where trade and resources are the main resource, starts in 1400, a turn will be 5 years, ends around 1600, America will be added later, Im going to post the core rules tomorrow, but it wont launch until May
