IOT Developmental Thread

As soon as May 2nd passes, I'll be ready to launch my IOT. The test game seems to have gone well enough, but I have made a few rule changes:

Capitals:
*You start by claiming a single province, which will be your capital. This means the start will be slower, but this works in the advantage of your GM and new players.
*If you lose your capital, you lose all benefits from your current supply centers.
* Moving your capital costs 10 EP. Once you're capital is moved/relocated you can invest in four new supply centers at a cost of 5 EP each

General:
*Your first five claims will become your supply centers - They produce 3 EP instead of one in theory, but in the beginning this is automatically converted into XP*
*XP has more or less been removed: 3 EP : 1 XP. To balance this, there is a static limit on how many territories can be claimed per turn.
*Captured supply centers only produce 2 EP instead of 3; to get the full benefit you must capture the corresponding capital
* You can only take and use another nation's supply centers+capital once; after that all captured supply centers are treated as regular provinces
And the reason you start with a single province: The map may be edited at the beginning to allow two Frances of Japans to develop if two players settle in the region

I don't think those rules are that complicated. I'll post a tidier write-up of the rules closer to launch time.

What's always bothered me is that in games with high numbers of provinces many people will just rebuild modern or famous countries. No one ever just randomly claims. I think I might take a blank map and then just randomly draw provinces.

Unfortunately, the only way to really solve that is to use a map of a world that is not Earth and is not related to Earth. Most players who join an IOT want to play as Akkad, or France, or China instead of a random nation.

Oh yeah?

Spoiler :
KEY:
Red=land borders
Blue=canals
Black=coast
Teal=sea/ocean

Red, Blue, and Black are all considered borders.
Blue, Teal, and Black are passable by ships

note: more to come

So? The point of whatever it is I'm doing is to create a new Earth where the countries of old are possibly less used (but still allowed). At the least they'll look different. In this , the only thing I'm keeping are the coastlines. Everything else is random. If it helps, think of it as medieval Europe spread worldwide.

I was just screwing around in Eurasia, probably going to change that. Changed a bit in the Americas.

That doesn't stop people playing the Incas, Aztecs, Iroquois or even Liberaltopia. :)

No it doesn't, I'm just tired of seeing France every game.

Aww... :(

And Britain and Germany and Spain and California and Japan. It's not that I'm ticked at any specific players, I'm just annoyed by the pattern. Gaul would be cool to see instead of France, or Scotland instead of England. Stuff like that, or even fantasy stuff.

And screw it, I'm just going to make a new map.

Use the map of the world of the Belgariad/Malloreon. :)

I've never heard of it, and I can't find a blank one.
