IOT Developmental Thread

I'd abandon IB2 for a girlfriend in a heartbeat. Or a boyfriend. Or really, just anyone. I'm so lonely.

That's so sad... I'll send many virtual hugs. *hug* Don't be lonely, it'll be right in the end; there are lots of lovely girls out there, I have the most beautiful and kind girlfriend in the world. She's called Beth (hence my nation in I&B2). And out there somewhere is the girl, the perfect girl for you, and don't worry if she isn't there with you now, because one day you'll find each other and it will be amazing. Just think like Ernst Georg Ravenstein... It'll all be right in the end.
You're obviously a good person, and good people find good people. So don't feel lonely and if a girl does come along and you end I&B I'll understand, even if no one else does :)

Don't crucify me if you already tried something like this before I became an active member again, but have yall ever tried a Prestige system? i.e. everyone starts at 0, it is gained for noble deeds/following through with actions, and lost by breaking agreements such as NAPs. This way, there would be a system to make agreements actually have meaning, and not disappear as soon as borders touch.

Lets say you have a NAP with X. X's borders finally touch yours, so you decide to preemptively invade. Currently, the only response would be a "what the hell, man!" while under my proposed system you would lose, say, 50 prestige and thus something like this would happen:
-rebels sprout up, forming from some of your armies if prestige lowers enough
-your industry and pop grows slower
-NPC's are waay less willing to trust you, and may cut off trade

Thus, there would be consequences to being a noble stud, versus being a backstabbing villain.

Yes we've had a system like that in a few games it was called infamy.

There was also reputation in IOT:A which was a similar thing.

Talking about IOT:A, when is that coming back to life?

Prestige/Infamy seems pretty pointless for anything outside of NPC encounters. It shouldn't affect population growth nor industrial growth. There is already a Revolt Risk/stability mechanic in most IOTs that deal with rebels. On another note, there are plenty of very unnoble nations in the world that aren't being sanctioned because they're very low in prestige, so that doesn't work either.

I always thought that if I implemented infamy/prestige/reputation/whatever in a game then it would be a trade modifier. People would want to go to a country that is nicer on the world stage rather than one that is hated, so therefore trade modifier is a good idea.

I am developing my own IOT, MIOT I. It shall be based in Napoleonic times.

I shall use a new system for battle calculation, which I am eager to try out. This MIOT I will really be a test of my new ideas, which are in truth modifications on the usual systems.

There is no ETA, but it is at least a week or two away. I am not hurrying myself by any measure. In fact, it may be in about a month, for I shall be away for a week and a half in approximately three weeks and would not want to cut into the very beginning of the IOT with a jarring stall.

Just a heads up.

The name MIOT was already used. Might I suggest MadIOT instead?

Bah! TIOT it shall be then.

Update: I finished fleshing out the warfare section. It will most likely be the largest section. My system may not be perfect, but it works well. My only worry is that it will become far too complex.

Looking at it again, there are quite a few variables. However, it shouldn't take too long. Here's my checklist:

[Need:]
Basic rules
Joining
Economy
Expansion
Land War
Naval War

Diplomacy
Espionage
NPC's
National Modifiers

You forced my hand. MadIOT it is.

EDIT: UPDATE:
MadIOT I: Napoleon's Negligence

Introduction
House Rules
Joining

Expansion
National Modifiers
Economy
Technology
Land War
Naval War
Espionage
Diplomacy
NPC’s

Despite how promising this looks, I am only about 75% of the way there. Then I need to do calculations to make sure my numbers work, so in reality I'm probably about 60% there. Even then, the full game is going to be a test of my "game engine" so to speak, so we'll see.

Here's the intro:

The year is 1820.
Barely half a decade ago, Napoleon finished his conquest of Europe and her domains. His tyrannical rule lasted for just over a year, before an unnamed assassin killed him and most of his family. Rumor has it remnants of his breed are hidden, waiting to reclaim their land. However, in the four years since his demise, the world once again fell into chaos. New nations spurted forth from the wreckage of Napoleon’s Europe, and across the globe nations both old and new continue to strain for dominance. Many old powers fell along with their old economic friends across the great seas, while others adapted to the changing times. Now, select nations which had scrabbled for power have managed to gain footholds in this new world. Who will lead their nation to greatness?

The full ruleset is reaching its 11th page in Word. Wow (the beauty is, it isn't all that complex, and is fairly intuitive). Looking at my clock, I've been at it for 2 hours. Time to go to bed.

TIOT encourages alot of naughty jokes as well.

Hehehe, tit.

Quite.

I finished pretty much everything. I'm going to run some test numbers, but everything looks pretty good.

I will be gone for over a week starting July 28th and will have no access to a computer, presumably until August 6 or so. At the latest, I would be home by the 11th. No matter what the length, it would be a jarring break in the game. Hopefully, someone will be able to take over for me in that timetable. Otherwise, we could just wait it out.

I plan on putting it up within the next two days.
