IOT Developmental Thread

I still support Never Ending Podcastium.

Why don't you just call it something cool like AwesomeCast?

Why don't we try and establish who exactly is going to be listening in? :p

Know your audience and go from there. :p

It's the age of the French Revolution........
The age of Napoleon.....
An age of huge battles and grand strategies....

The Grande Armee

I am developing a new Napoleonic era IOT. What can you expect:

Napoleon

Huge Battles

Co-operation between players

Battle Formations and real Strategy

Battlefield map

Missions

Players play as French Commanders instead of Nations

More to come soon......

That sounds totally awesome

It has lots of potential indeed.

The Grande Armee

Here is a small idea of some basic elements of the game:

What type of game is this:

Some IOT's have both a complex war and economical system. Others have a complex economical system or a complex war system while the war/economy system is simple. Others have both systems simple.

The Grande Armee does not have at all economy or buildings. You cannot even build units. They are given to you by me, based on historical numbers.

Also the entire game will be based on battle maps like this:

B85hY.png

Stars = Cavalry
Circle = Cannons
Square = Infantry

This is a very early version. The map will be better. Also the Units are placed a bit random. During the game, there will be strategic placing. As you can see, an all out attack by the reds from that bridge will be suicide.

Players Co-operate

In this IOT, you will have to all co-operate. While each of you will command a unit, there will be only one army and that means that in strategic level, you must all create and agree on a battle plan.

Without co-operation, you will die.

I would standardise the stars, squares and circles and copy/paste them to make the map look smoother.

Otherwise looks promising. =]

I would use my standardised unit icons.

So, I was sulking about the other day trying to figure out how TSR failed so catastrophically at resurrecting the old skool spirit, and I realized: it's not order locks, it's PMs. The key paradigm distinguishing the original games from pretty much everything after IOT7 is the secrecy of orders.

I don't have the time to reboot MPR, and I don't know if I can round up everyone necessary for IOT:A, but I want a simple IOT, and I want one done "right". Therefore, I thought I'd take this opportunity to conduct a little experiment.

It would be possibly the most bare-bones game short of total anarchy. Blank map, no provinces, neither fixed turn length nor update schedule, where pretty much everything is carried through roleplay. It'd be akin to Roll to Dodge in that players can basically claim to do whatever the hell they feel like and it's entirely possible it'll show up on the game board, subject to mediation by the GM. In short: casual atmosphere and no hard-set rules, just impromptu arbitration.

Any takers?

Also, potentially run by the Downfall Gang on Tani's forum as a faux ultra-complex venture.

I'd really like the sound of this. Although saying RtD has given me the thought that having some sort of RNG would be really cool and could had to the flavour of the game. And I really think that provinces should be involved.

Bottom Line: Whatever form this venture takes, I will join in. :)

I'd be interested.

Reminds me somewhat of a couple of NES projects I've been concepting, but I like the complete detachment idea for one of them.

Of course, there should be rules or guideline to prevent SpamRolePlaying. This isn't even about Quality over Quantity, and more about the atmosphere (which you/the GM can and should be able to dictate.)

Also, I dunno if you support this or not, but if this goes through and becomes successful wi aha, but there are no set updates. The GM just mediates conflicts and updates map as necessary/when they feel like it.

Also, I support no provinces. They are artificial and since we don't have ANY game play element in IOT:A that needs them, why have them?

What kind of era do you see this at? From playing in INESes I would say that 1950s-2050s tech would be optimal for enabling crazy tech dev role play with culture/religion with their own importance/roles.

I was gonna default to 'contemporary' like we always used to, although a Cold War start might be a worthwhile springboard. I'll see what everyone thinks.

I'm interested, but does it really need to be on the other forum?
For you? Anything. :love:
