Iran Vs UK

Based on current events what do you think would happen if these 2 countries ALONE went to war over the current navy hostage crisis ? Obviously the UK have the more advanced force, however Iran would be fighting in their own backyard.. comments anyone?

The Brits could perhaps succeed in a rescue mission with special forces, they have really good ones.
But an invasion would be impossible, the British army is not large enough to occupy alone such territory.

Anyone think of more stats for this sort of comparison? Where can I find a list of who's got what size/composition of military strength?

I don't think either would culture-flip, and diplomacy doesn't seem to be going very well ... so I'd build a flotilla of Locusts of Chiron and send them to invade.

Im not really talking about occupying Iran, its obvious even the U.S and UK would struggle as they are in Iraq.

I am moreso comparing the forces of each country, Navy, Airforce, Army etc. Who do you think would win in a pitch battle.

But,they can build up an army in relative short time in order to be an efficient invasion.Plus,i am sure there will be a class of Iranian who will welcome the invasion in order to take over the ruling elites.

It would be a Special Forces mission to rescue the hostages, never an invasion. There would be public backing for the former, public outrage at the latter.

How?

They could not even transport a large force to britain let alone invade. I am talking about how would it go in all out war in the gulf between all the land forces air and sea power both nations could muster, with all other nations staying out. While the UK has greater tech I think the land war could be trickier, however with control of the air I belive the UK would win. However occupying Iran would not happen.
