Indirect fire means aiming and firing a gun without relying on a direct line of sight between the gun and its target, as in the case of direct fire. Aiming is performed by calculating azimuth and elevation angles, and may include correcting the fall of shot by observing it and calculating new angles.

Global
The Treaty of London expires at 1 January 1878 and current members of the U.N.A. and L'Accord can choose to renew it or let it lapse. In a related news, the Canadian Independence Treaty also expires at the same time.

Massive storms have caused severe disruption to communications and have affected telegraph and phone links.

Europe
In Russia, socialists of different nationalities formed their own parties. Russian Poles, Livonians and Ukrainians who had suffered significant administrative and educational Russification, founded the nationalistic Socialist Party in Warsaw in 1892. While the Kan, focused on his love of ocean liners and racing them across the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, the French formed the European Republic, and the communist party was outlawed, but the ideology simmered elsewhere, therefore L'Accord became important again in this fight and communism is something that can not be ignored for too long. French support of Socialism seems like a good bulwark to this rise internally.

A succession of weak governments have ruled Germany and popular discontent is high. The death of the monarch has placed even more strain on their fragile government. However a new leader has arisen who may steer the nation into the 20th century.

North America
California continues it fight with Hawaii and will not give up until the end, even at the cost of over $100,000,000 so far, for just one province. It has been a very costly conflict, and quite possibly the most costly to date.

Elsewhere in North America, peaceful relations exist, but concern for their neighbours in South America continues, with communism taking hold.

Canada's renewal of its independence treaty is coming up and it is hoped that the worlds nations will continue to recognise its neutrality in world affairs.

South America
The War on Communism has finally come to the shores of South America, with Swaziland in support of its ally, invading Brazil and La Plata, and moving on to fight in Paraguay and Peru.

Africa
Ethiopia has finally succumbed to overtures by Saorise and is now a member of that mighty nation.

Asia
Siam streets erupted in protest at the Communists massing to their north

623438432_f6e1f983bf.jpg

The two China's, Xi'an and Southern Han, joined with Siam to assault the new communist state "Boj China", which erupted in their backyards and losing some of their territory in the progress.

Oceania
California finally subdues resistance in Hawaii and takes over its administration.

The rest of Oceania remained quite peaceful.

The Hawaiian War
While California continued with its existing invasion plans, but this time increased fire-power of MG infantry, Hawaiian leadership re-did theirs for the last desperate defence of their shaky isles ...
All slaves are to be given freedom in exchange for forming army units with whatever rifles can be found. There is still an estimated 70,000 slaves on the islands in whole form, although only about 17,000 are within lands we can still control. However, freedom is promised to all slaves, and heavy incentives to any already free peoples, who rise up against their Californian oppressors in arms. They are to be directed to hit enemy units at any times possible, and if possible, seize ships in harbour and control of the surrounding docks and city around these ships.

Should they be successful in seizing any ships that come into harbour to resupply or repair, then they are to marshal in the coves and harbours around and on the last two remaining islands. They are to try to ward off any possible attacks onto these islands by landing craft, and are to utilize torpedo boats to the extreme to destroy the enemy ships.

As the fighting closes in, generals and other high up officers are to be seen fighting on the front lines to raise moral. Luring enemy troops into streets of cities or parks/squares in cities relatively easily, then counter-attacking by squeezing their flanks and hitting them from above, even surrounding them, is to become a common tactic. Raids on the enemy supply depots and camps are to be made whenever possible in order to seize some supplies for our own troops. All kills are to be looted as well. Every scrap is to be taken, and used against them. Should any MGs appear to be used against us, it should be our first priority to flank these MG positions and capture them for ourselves to be used against these bastards.

Suicide bombers and explosive traps like roadside bombs and trip wires and minefields are to be continued to used. All available mines should be used to mine likely landing beaches, and the area in front of any fortifications.

Any and all Californian citizens on our islands are to be taken prisoner as of now officially, and to be used as hostages. Use them to try and buy time, or exchange them for supplies from the enemy, or even use them as unwilling suicide bombers.

Reduced to only half its territory

The Boj China War
Boj China, thrust itself onto the world stage, determined to make its place in the world. However, the Three Kingdoms surrounding it would have none of it and was determined to rid their territories of the Communist menace.

Firstly the invasion on Shanghai led by Southern Han and supported by Siam

BojChina.png

t15shanghai.png

Boj China was able to get some of their armies to retreat to Sichuan to try to hold on there.

Then came Xi'An assault on Sichuan and the capital with Operation October - "A Quick and Easy Fix to the Curious Case of Communist China"

After these battles the threat of Communism has been reduced ... but for how long ...

First Powered flight occurs in Texas

800px-EolePatent.jpg

Using the studies of Louis Pierre Mouillard (1834–1837) on the flight of birds, Clément Ader constructed his first flying machine in 1886, the Éole. It was a bat-like design run by a lightweight steam engine of his own invention (4 cylinders developing 20 horsepower (15 kW). The weight was no more than 4 g/W (7 pounds per horsepower), and it drove a four-blade propeller. The wings, with a span of 14 metres, were equipped with a system of warping and all together weighed 300 kg (650 pounds). On 9 October 1890, Ader attempted a flight of the Éole. The aircraft evidently took off, reached a height of 20 cm, and flew uncontrolled approximately 50m

Corrugated Cardboard box first made in Librulstan

800px-Corrugated_Cardboard.JPG

The Scottish-born Robert Gair invented the pre-cut paperboard box in 1890 – flat pieces manufactured in bulk that folded into boxes. Gair's invention came about as a result of an accident: he was a Brooklyn printer and paper-bag maker during the 1870s, and one day, while he was printing an order of seed bags, a metal ruler normally used to crease bags shifted in position and cut them. Gair discovered that by cutting and creasing in one operation he could make prefabricated paperboard boxes

Diesel Engine invented in France

421px-Dieselmotor_vs.jpg

A diesel engine (also known as a compression-ignition engine and sometimes capitalized as Diesel engine) is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel, which is injected into the combustion chamber. This is in contrast to spark-ignition engines such as a petrol engine (gasoline engine) or gas engine (using a gaseous fuel as opposed to gasoline), which uses a spark plug to ignite an air-fuel mixture. The engine was developed by Rudolf Diesel in 1893.

Option 1: Exploit the technology - gain 5 factories in Benelux (available this turn)

Kinetoscope invented in Russia

421px-Kinetoscope.jpg

The Kinetoscope is an early motion picture exhibition device. Though not a movie projector—it was designed for films to be viewed individually through the window of a cabinet housing its components—the Kinetoscope introduced the basic approach that would become the standard for all cinematic projection: it creates the illusion of movement by conveying a strip of perforated film bearing sequential images over a light source with a high-speed shutter.

Worlds Fair
Paris, 1895

Paris has an extravaganza planned to take place in the Summer of 1895. The entire city has been working extra hard to put this all together. Every nation in the world is invited to send sponsors, and there will be an international committee present to discuss the future of the Olympics. To top it off, a grande structure for the entrance, a wondrous tower called La Tour Eiffel, designed by one of France's leading engineers, Gustave Eiffel. Construction began back in 1891, but plans have been in place since 1887. Here is a photograph from 1893:

Tour_Eiffel_1878.jpg

Why does Paris want to do this? Because they want to show the world the French Culture, and the joys of a liberal society. We do this to show the world the wonders of liberty, and to show the world the power of the French spirit. We do this to reach out to the world and offer an olive branch to our enemies, in hopes that they will accept, and we can work out peaceful solutions to our problems.

The New Tawantinsuyo Republic

Even during wartime, elections must happen. Carlos Libre, president of Tawantinsuyo, was once widely recongized as a hero during the revoultion, was on of the most hated men. He had according to the people, foolish fought a war Tawantinsuyo could not win, and many families paid for it with their lives. Not just Carlos Libre was blamed, but also many of the Communist Party, who had supported the war were hated, and lost vast public support. It seemed after just 4 years, people were ready to fight for change. It could have happened, but one man won over the public, and spoke of a better society.

His name was Juan Carranza. Born March 21st, 1865, he was known for interest in other countries, even ones were hated my most. He and his family moved to Spain when he was 15, to escpare the life of being slaves. When he 23, he heard of the revoultion against the emperor, he quickly went back to his homeland, to fight. After the government was overthrown, and the new communist one set up in its place, he quickly relized ths is not the Tawantinsuyo who fought for. After the massive defeats in the War on Communism, communism lost support, blamed for the losses. Carranza then announced his intentions to run for president, promosing a Tawantinsuyo, where a man can work for his own profit, where one can grow into their own person. People saw that he is what Tawantinsuyo needed, and he became the 2nd President of Tawantinsuyo.

His first act of being president, securing peace with Swaziland and the members of the ATK. It was costly though. Tawantinsuyo was to becme a vassal of Swazilan, giving it 25% of its income. Peace with the ATK mentioned that within about 20 years, communism must disappear for Tawantinsuyo, and a Non Aggression Pact. His next act was passing laws that slowly turned the economy from communism, to capitalism. Peace was brought to the land.

Long Live Canada - Vive le Canada

Canada donates 3 IC to Swaziland to assist the rebuild of Brazil, La Plata and Paraguay

Canada is also pleased that the long Hawaiian War is over and that peace can come again to those wonderful islands. Canada observes that short-lived Boj China communist nation could not really survive the onslaught by its neighbours for long and asks that the new rulers be kind to the peoples, who only felt neglected by the rest of the world, which developed around them.

Canada donates 1 IC to California, to be used to restore Hawaii to its former glory

Canada donates 1 IC to Xi'an and Canada donates 1 IC to Southern Han, to assist those two nations in rebuilding Sichuan and Shanghai respectively.

With world affairs, sorted, Canada now would like to announce its local affairs.

Canada also advises that we have granted Women the vote in this coming elections - Option 2: 50 Cultural Points

Also Canada continues to build up its industry and also does not want to be left behind in its military development as well, believing strong defence is important in maintaining a strong neutrality.

Quebec: 22 IC for 11 factories
Ontario: 22 IC for 11 Factories
Satkatchewan: 22 IC for 11 factories

Military Development
4 IC for MG Infantry
4 IC for Destroyers

So concludes Canada's Diplomatic Briefing ...

Enemies of the Kan shall be crushed, and this pathetic uprising in Poland is no more than an ignorant rabble led by a misguided man. We have been forgiving, in the past, towards the 'communist' parties despite their aggressive and violent actions, but this rebellion proves that offering such kindness to such groups will only encourage them.

So be it, by their actions let there be violence. We offer a final appeal to the misguided people of the revolution, swayed by viper tongues: give up your leaders to the Third Section and be rewarded. You will not be punished, you will be allowed to go home in peace.

Failure to do so, and you shall meet the fate of Lenin and his cohorts.

The time was up for President Leon de Ortilla, the second father of the nation. Simon Bolivar himself was present at his commencement ceremony. The next day, after all the votes had been tallied, Mariano Ospina Pérez, a former engineer and Communist Party official from Medellin, was elected Leader of the People.

Mariano_Ospina_Pérez.jpg

His background as an engineer led him to believe that Gran Colombia wasn't running at it's fullest capacity. He planned to change this. A week after his election, he announced that large factories were being built in the states of Venezuela and Ecuador. He also announced that because of the fall of the two other Communist nation-states, Boj China and Tawantisuyo, the People's Republic of Gran Colombia was the last bastion of freedom for the worker. Because of this, it must be protected at all costs.

P.R.G.C. Orders:
