hi everybody, ive been considering getting a new asus but have heard bad things about it and am having second thoughts. this is the model i am considering , and it has some pretty good specs for its price however the customer reviews seem to show it has a lot of problems so i was wondering what is your experience with asus?

thanks in advance for any feedback:)

It's like all big computer companies... experiences vary.

At the very least they make their own notebooks. So you have that. (Dell, HP, etc dont actually make the notebooks )
On the subject of the notebook: Whats your budget? Because if you have 150$ more, you can get a notebook with a more powerful CPU ( the Asus has a Pentium Dual Core model I suspect ), a 320GB HDD, a video card that can actually play games ( an HD4670 Mobility), a bigger screen and a higher resolution. Im talking about the MSI EX625. The weight is the same, but I think in the long term it will serve you better. It is also completely upgradeable -- CPU, HDD, RAM and Graphics are all upgradeable on it.

I bought an ASUS notebook one and a half year ago, and it's my main PC.

It's still working pretty well. The only bad thing about it is the monitor is not as good as my older Sony laptop. The ASUS monitor is more sensitive to viewing angle.

Is Asus a good brand? Depends on what you're looking for.

Well, all brands have their weaknesses.

Well perhaps you should give examples then.

I've never heard of a brand that's never had calls to their tech support line for non-user errors. If you know of one, please enlighten me. :)

No, but I know of brands that handle said tech support calls well. Like EVGA for one. Havent had a problem with them, even when I call tech support at 4am.

4AM our time is usually around 12 or sometime in the afternoon for tech support :p

At least for Dell.

Every manufacturer no matter how good will have faulty poducts slip through the testing and be released, it just depends on how often and how many do.

My mobo is made by Asus, one of the most outstanding one's made in micro-ATX form. Only complaint I have about it is the video card socket is a little too loose. Definitely a better manufacturer than a lot of cheap Chinese generics. I've had no problems updating drivers/BIOS through their website as well.

Thats part of my point. I got a person from tech support who's in the US. It wasnt 'Bob' with a heavy indian accent.

My computer I have has an Asus motherboard and I have had no issues with it, but I did get a higher end product, since I wanted it to last for a long time and not have too many problems.

I bought an Asus desktop machine in 2001. I'm still using it today. I've been satisfied with it.
