Is cheating okay?

I think cheating is ok only if you're not playing against others, for example multiplayer or GOTM's.

In a SP game it's up to the taste of the player.

Barbacue flavoured players tend to not like cheating.

In Single Player you can do anything you want. Cheating almost never produces happiness though, since there's no feeling of accomplishment. Cheating your way through a game also tends to shorten its lifespan drastically. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

The only game that I had a blast with cheating was Banjo Tooie, and that was after I completed the game once.

Other than that, cheating only really helps me acclimate to tough games like Victoria.

if you've been stuck with a game for more than a year than I see by all means, cheat. (but only in single-player)

After I've beat the game, I use cheats to experiment with stuff (especially in Civ).

On multiplayer no

On Singleplayer, generally if you've beaten the game. If you don't beat the game and use cheats, I find that you'll always be tempted to cheat your way out of a bad situation.

Sometimes cheating provides an immediate rush or a way to figure out how to accomplish something. Like I'm cheating in Spore so I can see what conquering an arm of the galaxy is like and see how I could conquer it without having to cheat.

Strictly only in single player and it's my own game session that I am playing (IE no multi-player and no submition such as the GOTM). Though mainly only cheat just to get the effect of playing a game in a sandbox mode.

in single player anything that increases the enjoyment you get from the game is 'okay'. so if cheating is doing that, cheat way..

now MP is a entirely different matter, since cheating often ruins the game for the other players...

I use cheats only as a last resort when I#ve been stuck for a long time or to try out new strategies.

It's always fun to kill the hackers though because then they accuse you of hacking

If there's a bug or glitch I cheat to fix it but I wouldn't necessarily call that cheating.

Personally, as an admin for gamespace, the number of people who accuse someone of hacking greatly outweighs the number of people who actually hack, or people who actually record some evidence to prove they hack so an admin can bring out the banstick. From my experience, when people yell "hacker" they're just pissed off that they got killed luckily.

In online multiplayer, it comes down to how much you like the other players.

If the other player is right next to you, like with Goldeneye or other older games, then it depends on how big the other players are.

It seems pointless, unless you use the cheats for fun.
For example, the pedestrian riot cheats in GTA 3/VC.
That's not really cheating, though - it's just playing around with the game to make it more fun. I would only call something "cheating" if it gives the player an unfair advantage in beating the game.

Only on your spouse.
