I truly cannot imagine just jumping into a random Civ lobby when a multiplayer game is going to take multiple nights of one's life, surely almost no-one plays like that? I've never heard of anyone playing multiplayer games that weren't pre-organized ahead of time for this reason. Even knowing when you should come back for the resumption of play seems almost impossible to handle without being in contact with the players outside of the game.

Well the game has a special speed for online games, it's kinda weird but it somehow works(ish). To be honest the victory screen is nearly never reached. People quit before, sometimes we don't know why. After the first quit, people start to conquer the civ most of the time set up to Prince, what gives them an unfair advantage. Oh, I do the same if I can... I even suspect that some guy false-quitted to make me attack him and feel sorry to not succeed, because the self-called AI was supposed to be in Prince but it was doing surprisingly well. (too well to be fair) There are also people who join but have one or several friends with them, in FFAs... they usually attack you in the same time... unfair... I reached the victory screen only once, it was a team game (official teams I mean) and it was quite fun although stretching near the end. I had good times playing Tomyris too. But overall, like with Civ5, the game is not very well designed for multiplayer. (at least for short sessions like Civ3 or Civ4 were)
Maybe the people who kick are playing a ladder, I don't know... but they could mention it in the title at least, or set up a goddam PRIVATE game instead of wasting their own time kicking everybody.
