Probably going to order on the first few days of release, assuming the reviews aren't horrendous. Civ V has been the game I've grinded the most and continue to play to this day, and Civ VI I more or less skipped due to the art style not sitting right with me (I know I'm in the minority with that opinion). Nevertheless, Civ V's netcode makes it difficult for my cohort of friends and I to play multiplayer. So regardless of whether or not I like Civ VII's aesthetic more than Civ V's, I think I'll bite the bullet anyways, lest I want to be absent from multiplayer for almost another decade.

I definitely did not go for the cartoony style
I've seen this comment re "cartoon" style a lot but have no idea what people mean by it, can someone please explain.

FWIW I thought Civ V's graphics were horrible, I liked that in Civ IV terrain was clearly distinct.

My income can vary wildly over the year. If they open pre-orders when my income's good, I'll pre-order, as I might be tight on money when it launches.

In my case, I'm mainly referring to the way the Civ leaders are represented. In Civ 5 they look more "realistic" -- more like a photograph might be and without exaggerated features.

We are all different, and one of the things I disliked most about Civ 6 was the way the terrain was represented -- which also seemed to me to be more "cartoon-like" and less like real terrain, though I concede that in Civ 4 it was easier to read than in Civ 5. In Civ 6 it was supposedly easier to read the terrain, but I actually found it more difficult than Civ 5. Suffice to say that I disliked the graphics in Civ 6 so much that I hardly played the game and deeply regretted spending money on it.

I actually liked that style in Civ 6, moreso than the 'realism' of Civ5. It seemed closer to Civ3, which is the Civ I play the most of.

The initial poll was inadequate, so I did not vote. "Definitely not" is my vote. It's 50-50 that I ever buy it since watching the streamers is good enough for me.

For me, that "cartoon style" refers especially to the Leader Portraits.

I just spent 40 dollars on Manor Lords right before the 25% off sale. I played Manor Lords for 80 hours currently. I spent 240 dollars on EU4 and only played 17 hours in total. I have over 5,000 dollars spent on Digital Combat Simulator Software, Hardware, PC and Graphics Card. I've played Civ Games for over 25 years with over 30,000 hours, so why stop now?

You got a point. I find myself watching people min/max more these days compared to actually playing but watching them gets me itchy to actually load up the game and play.

After I bought Civ V only to open the box and find a 'download your game on Steam code' inside, I lost all hopes for the human race.
I will wait untill I know what I will be buying will be possibly sold at a later date, thus reversing my unfathomable rebuttal of current anti-consumer practice.

I still can not digest that Switch users got a Physical copy of Civ 6 and we PC-Mac users got a 'Steam licence code' inside an empty box.
I will never forgive the makers of this ordeal for taking away that 2$ Dvd installation disc from my collection.

Is should have never bought civ 6 after what happened with Civ 5... here I am, hoping this will reverse...

Probably pre-order... Though we'll see what the previews are like. I didn't start civ6 until well after release - civ5 really didn't do it for me and I switched to primarily paradox games for a long while... 6 definitely restored my faith in the franchise, so unless the previews set off some red flags I'll likely preorder.

I chose "not sure" because I'm torn between two impulses.
  1. Cheapness / frugality: I bought Civ3 after release, on sale, with all its expansions. I bought Civ4, after release, on sale with all its expansions. Same story for Civ5, Civ6, and BE. I did buy up all the Civ6 DLC in a bundle, so that I could get Leader Pass for free.
  2. Finally being in the right place, at the right time: I have a good paying job, with grown kids and few big-ticket payments. Being able to say, "Yeah, I am a CivFanatic. I pre-ordered Civ7," would be cool. Like several other folks, I know that I will spend hours playing it, so I will get my money's worth.
I do agree that they will have lots of patches, bug fixes, and issues to resolve. Sooner or later, I will buy all the expansions or DLC. Do I pay full price, or wait until they go on sale?

Ugh. Not Sure.

Unlikely. I never bought 6. I did get it as a gift and didn't like it. But so far as 7, it'll depend on the features revealed (including modability) in advance and day 1 reviews.

IIRC, Civ4 didn't need to be bought to play multiplayer, and that was great ! Because since Civ3, I've been a bit disappointed by single player, especially how to handle Deity AIs. (tons of units and clicks) No, I should have say I've been a bit dispapointed by single player since Civ2 actually. (the first one I played seriously) Deity AI was so easy that I had to check twice if I was in Deity. I guess the meta wasn't as complicated as now, or I'm dumber. (both is possible) Considering my constant fails/boredom in 6, I'm not sure how I feel about Civ2 retrospectively. It was very fun, but lacked of replay value. (!) So, since I beat Deity in Ironman mode a couple times, I said myself : "I'm done with it". And it wasn't THAT bad you know, there are many games that awaits to be played, everything has an end, etc. THEREFORE, I did buy Civ3 for : multiplayer. And it was fun ! But the single player was kinda too hard that time around. So I decided to buy Civ4 for multiplayer too. (or did I ? I don't remember. I remember having bought it for lobby issues, in the hope they would be corrected - they weren't, but were eventually with patches I guess) So... knowing that time around I would have to buy Civ5 to play multiplayer, I bought it. And it was a HUGE disappointment. No more general lobby, game instability, crashes, inability to play, etc. So I never bought the expansions. I did played them, mind you, but FAR from being full price. And with Civ6 I did abandon any form of hope in that regard, so no money from me, and I did right ! Eventually got the vanilla game with Epic Game Store, and, if not "all welcome" specified in the game title, you will be kicked with no word. As to today, I still have not any single clue why. Everyone is playing "private" games ? Unlikely. Blacklisted ? Maybe. (or most probably not whitelisted) Shamanism about pings, "mods missing" messages and all that crap ? That's what I used to think. I don't know. And finally, when I'm playing, it's to be rapped by war chariots, 10 horsemen at once, or to be discouraged by those 7 hecking movement horsemen that can pillage with a single point. Not to mention the traditional caravel rush in "oh shiny" water maps, Brazil oneshooting your fleet in one turn in same maps, flying units overpower, etc. As this game likes so much "abilities" and uniques, there is many way to get surprised, in the wrong way that is. Maybe that's a plus for people who are not against a good spanking, but I'm not sado-masochist. (unlike most players nowaday, I've learned haha) So... Civ2 single player ? Good. Civ3 single player ? Not so good. Civ3 multiplayer ? Good. Civ4 single player ? Not so good. (as expected) Civ4 multiplayer ? Good. Civ5 single player and multiplayer ? Terrible. Civ6 single and multiplayer ? Terrible. Civ7 ? What do I expect, according to you ? Oh I will play it. I'm very curious if devs used that idea of mines. But buying it ? Well, it depends on various factors I guess. Will multiplayer be any good ? Will single player bring less headaches or on the opposite less total boredom ? (depending mostly on what difficulty I play at, I should temper my pride and go middle (emperor in 6 I'd say) while I'm at it) I guess I will have to play it to discover all about those. And, I don't want to be spoiled. That's a good hint. And, I plan to buy a new computer, for this and Titan Quest II mainly. (but also all the other games that require more power) And for any kind of online game that usually don't require to pay a console fee to be played. (like Diablo IV) So I voted "day of realease" (ish).
