Souron said:I read/heard somewhere that TV stations were arguing that making recording and fast fowarding through comercials was illegal. You know, like with Tevo.
They didn't have a problem with taping, just the fast fowarding through comercials. By that logic, it would be legal to make a tape of a show, as long as you do not skip commercials.
Of course in practice I've seen tapes of live shows without commercials all the time.
On a somewhat related note, Phillips apparently filed for a patent for a device that would disallow channel changing during commercials ... (first link I found)
All this stuff angers me to no end - especially what steviejay mentions about not being able to skip endless reiterations of the anti-piracy warning at the beginning of DVD's. Let me get this straight - I have legitimately purchased this DVD with my own money (thereby tacitly supporting the RIAA and MPAA's questionable anti-piracy crusade already), and as a special bonus reward, I now must commit time out of my life to a reminder of a crusade I hate every single time I want view the DVD I already paid for? Wow; what a great deal! Can I get audio reminders between tracks on CD's too?
