Right now it is so easy to get news that so heavily biased to your preconceived notions that you don't have to think at all -- and that is very bad for democracy.

this is the biggest problem i see. not that news stories are vapid and sensationalistic, but rather people get news based on where they already agree with the POV of the news agency at the expense of other sources. at the derision of other news sources.

and then they call themselves unbiased, fair and balanced, etc etc.

It's the reason I read teh WSJ and listen to NPR, watch PBS and read Policy Review.
