I was thinking of installing two copy, keep one copy as the standard copy while use the second copy for modding so I can just change the icon files such as resources.pcx, units_32.pcx without keep on renaming them when I want to load a game in progress.

But there is only reinstall option when you insert the CD, anyone has any idea if this can be done??

If you have two different OS's installed it's possible...
I suppose it's not possible, at least not easily, to install two on one OS.

why isnt it possible?
if you just went into the cd and ran the install program directly
and put it in a dif directory what would happen?
Havent tried it with Civ3 yet but for a while i had 2 copys of SMAC running fine
on the same machine on the same OS partition.

hmmm....just opened the CD and ran Setup.exe .
I figured that would just run the install program again
but it asked if i wanted to delete the program from my comp...
very odd.

try just copying your entire Civ3 directory to another folder.
i donno if this would confuse Windows but its worth a shot.
with some games if their are two copys you can only use shortcuts
to one of them  So you might have to start one of them manualy
by activating Civ3.exe directly

The install writes a bunch of registry entries to know where the civ3 files are. You'd need two registries (two OS's like Jolly Gnome said or software like VMWare) in order to put two copies on one machine.
