Ive been thinking about this. I mean after we die i dont buy into the christian or any religious view of heaven.

But what about millions or billions of years from after we die our genes are made again by random chance in some other body that gives us concioncness of that body?

I dont know if im explaining this well but do you get what i mean?

Depends on how infinite you think the Universe really is. There are many people who feel that the odds of 'you' repeating are high enough that you will.

You're basically asking us to gamble on the size of the Universe.

But i guess nobody can explain what makes us US.

I mean a dog for instance, would that dog always be a dog or what, if what im saying makes sense.

Even if your exact gene sequence comes back through a series of evolution and de-evolution that particular meat sack still would not be you. Its like cloning. Even if a clone is an exact replica geneticly its consciousness is not identical just like twins.

Thats what i dont understand.. What defines our conciousness? Will we ever figure it out?

Not at all. Heaven means that your soul is with God, nothing else, Hell means your soul will burn down there.

Reincarnation means your soul comes back to life. Yeah right.

I'm betting we will, but not before we figure out how to augment our intelligence (and at that point, we'll only be able to understand human consciousness)

You could define an individual conciousness if you factored every iddy biddy factor that makes you, you, but thats nigh imposible. Just be happy that you are you and there will never be another you ever.

Actually reincarnation does seem more plausible to me. I see more connections between me and my dog, spiritually than any supposed god.

I discovered when I was five that reincarnation made more intuitive sense than heaven and hell.

I was eight.

This would seem to imply that identical twins are "the same person". Every identical twin I've met would forcefully disagree with that notion.

As for reincarnation in the traditional sence, I consider it even less plausible than heaven/hell.

More plausible? No. Just as possible? Yes; it is a matter of faith, one held by some religons.

Reincarnation is definitely more plausible. It is the afterlife for grown ups. Heaven and Hell sounds like child's fairy tale, all bogeyman and tooth fairies.

The most convincing way of explaining reincarnation that I have ever heard goes like this..

Everything is changing all the time.

Everything is interwoven with everything else.

Thus every infinitessimal moment everything dies because it has changed.

And every infitinitessimal moment everything is reborn because it has come into existence.

Life is a endlessly transforming matrix of matter, energy and information.

What was once a part of the matter and energy of cow becomes part of the matter and energy of me when I eat her flesh. In turn when my body no longer maintains dynamic balance and 'dies' the matter and energy of it becomes something else. So what has ceased to be?

Information flows in and flows out constantly transforming. You say something, I hear it, I think of it, I tell to another, they hear it, think of it...
What has perished?

Reincarnation is perpetual change of all things that are all one.

Consciousness is just transparent fabric that reflects the qualities of the subject it's press onto by the light that goes through it.

That's one's identity.
Memories, those past experiences about yourself and your surroundings which cease to exist when your brain ends it's functions and don't store them anymore.

"You" vanish with your body which is the vessel that carries that vital information about "you".

Makes sense to me. I herby denounce my branch of christianity in favour of the newer better, chao-entropic religion.:sheep:

Actually when I was younger I believed I was the reincarnated form of a wolf because I like wolves and dogs with such a passion.

Exactly! They both have the same opinion! Spooky! Just like they're one person!
