Is the AI supposed to do this? Did I mess up the game?

So my first game of Fall from Heaven. Been having loads of fun and love the magic system. Have no idea where/how to make vassals, but that's not my main question.

Been playing for almost 8 hours. Since the beginning the Sheim kicked the Brannor to the curb, down to one single city. (I bribed them for peace simply because I didn't want them becoming some sort of super civ) Anyway, since then, the Brannor have not expanded at all, and there is room on their side of the continent. Also, the Ammurites and Sheim have been at war since I bribed the Sheim to peace. Ammurites used their worldspell, took two cities, and it's been at a stalemate ever since. As of a few turns ago the Sheim finally did retake one of them, but only barely by the looks of it.

Hyborem has also been summoned, but looking at the world builder, he's just sitting in his one city, Dis (very appropriate name).

The elves are shuffling two largish stacks of troops back and forth in their territory. I've been sniping them with my hero assassin but that's the extent of that.

And finally the Clan of Embers has been shuffling troops across my borders to, I assume, attack the dragon.

I know I'm playing at a lower difficulty level, and if that's the reason that works. AI quirks aside, the biggest questions is how come the Brannor never expanded again and why Hyborem is just sitting there.

Sometimes the AI can over militarise and put their economy on the egde, in which case they can stop settling. Hyborem can settle more cities but those cities won't grow unless evil units are killed, in which case manes appear in the infernal cities that can be converted into population. That extra population could just as easily go to the capital instead. The Infernals can make a success from only settling a capital and conquering the rest of the world but the AI usually waits too long and the chance passes.

I see, so technically the AI is doing what it's supposed to do. It just doesn't make as much sense from my perspective. It's my first game and I've been opening the world builder, to see what was going on, was a bit worried that it was causing the AI to bug out or something.

Welcome.
AI can become fixated on Archeron (the red dragon) though without courage they won't have much affect on him. I don't get it either. You can World Builder him out.
Suffice to say, the AI is said to be the most difficult code to develop and when mods vary game elements to the extent FfH does the variables for AI behavior must become very large.
Most times the AI isn't significantly wrongheaded and can be quite a challenge. Enjoy.

@Jenaelha Ah, that explains the Clan's Highway to Dragon.

@Tholal This does indeed look interesting. It works with the "o" patch I assume? Since I've seen some other mods that work with different versions.
