Is the U.S. Trade Embargo Keeping Cuba Communist?

As I have said previously, the opportunity should be taken to invade and liberate Cuba from the evil commies, and impale/retire Castro.
There ain't the USSR to back him up now. :mwaha:

Yeah, it was pretty crass, but so is old Chappa-Teddy's having any kind of political career.

His brothers had far more honor in their little toes than he'll ever have in his sizeable frame. He was a spoiled little rich boy who sacrificed a gal's life to save his reputation--the wonder is that the people of Massachusetts forgave him AND MADE HIM THEIR REPRESENTATIVE after he was caught anyway....

Before I get misunderstood, I loathe Ted Kennedy's politics, his attitude, and his getting away with murder. I'm just not the type to wish anybody dead, no matter what they did.

BTW, my wife is from Massachusetts, and I once asked her how in the world he manages to stay in power. She doesn't really know.

No the Us embargo is not keeping cuba communist. Cuba however is far from a repressive communist regime. This petition thing just goes to show that.

However I think the embargo is so hypocritical it is completley unbelieveable.

CHINA is a repressive so called communist state (of course its not communist because communism doesn't work) however the US still trades with them.

What? I hear you ask, that makes no sense at all? Surely there is some mistake.
Nope the US is only doing the embargo against cuba cos it doesn't affect the US. THe US however doesn't really mind dealing with communisms.

Now I'm going to get attacked for being nasty about the US when china is worse (correct rmsharpe, greadius and AoA?) So what I will point out is that I am attacking the US because it is trying to be the protecter of democracy and because of its hypocrisy etc. Im not attacking china because its so easily ridiculous that there really is no point and we all know it anyhow.

Europe doesn't get a big thumbs down on china because they trade with cuba.

China has made an effort to move to a more open and free-market society, Cuba has not. Cuba has remained a supporter of terrorism.

May 1st, 1961, a plane was hijacked by Abntulio Ramirez Ortiz and taken to Havana, Cuba, where the hijacker was given asylum.

February 27th, 1980, Columbian terrorists seized the Dominican Republic embassy in Bogota and held 54 hostage, demanding release of 310 prisoners. The terrorists were given sanctuary in Cuba.

August 13th, 1980, seven Cubans hijacked a U.S. airliner and flown to Cuba. Six more airliners hijacked and flown to Cuba within next month.

And exactly how many planes have been hijacked by Chinese Communists?

Whoever came up with the idea that all countries in a specific catchall catagory need to be treated the same way?
All Communism is not created equal, and all repressive regimes don't have a cookie cutter policy that needs to be applied.
China does not equal Cuba.
Chinese foreign policy should not equal Cuban foreign policy.

The reason China gets different treatment is because, in the big picture (besides the very, very, very, sorry incicident), they've played by our economic rules.

And just how many of these incidents have happened less than 20 years ago?...
Is there a statue of limitations on international terrorism?

Augusto Pinochet happened 30 years ago, and it was awfully hard to find anyone who would defend Castro who didn't also defend:

boycotting Chile in an embargo;
calling for Pinochet's ouster; and
supporting his prosecution after his resignation

A better question might be "which country still has the same head of state/government then as now?"

I would support embargoes on both, incidentally, although as a rule I'd like to bail on non-military embargoes altogether. But once you have one, a certain consistency should be expected.
