Isabella No Cottages Emperor

Peeked at the save, and we know Biz doesn't have either Copper or Iron hooked up yet. :hammer:

The MM in Madrid is very nice. Growth in two to coincide with the first whip penalty wearing off.

I guess Biz has a city 3 W of Barca, but I guess we can't see it over the hill. If true we can start the attack on good defensive terrain. Are we committed to not ending the war with Biz before we research Alphabet, or will we be satisfied with just capturing a couple of cities in this war? I ask because I think it's going to be ~40 turns before we can research Alphabet (we have to drop off of 100% research next turn), but maybe the Gems will make a big difference.

How are we going to get Civil Service? I believe a Prophet will research it if we have CoL (and probably some other stuff) but not Masonry. I don't generally try for the slingshot so I forget which GP will research what.

I can play tuesday.
The gem will make a difference and i hope we could get alphabet before making peace and grabbing lots of low lvl techs.

my turns (short 'n sweet)
- continued to build axes in Barcelona.
- placed a warrior SE to bust fog
- went for writing after AH (Madrid gem is online and our research jumps by 5)
- start mining another gem @ Barcelona.
- Buddhism spread in Cumae(has only archer and spear). Alex nearby.
- More worker improvements
- killed few barb archers
- JC asked for OP i refused.
- There is one barb city planted north, but i'd go for Bismarck.
- Started Alphabet (24) , you can change it. Almost ready to attack.
- Also, Confus. discovered in distant land.

That 2nd gem will be huge for us

I would suggest to research cheap pottery ourself befor researching alphavit.
Potery will help us to whipe an army and we have all prerequisites, making it cheap.
On other hand, alphavit will come soon enogth when we use money from taking cities to finance it.

Izzy, No Cottages

War starts on this round, just a matter of figuring out what I want and when it can be brought together.

Biz still does not have Metals, so this should be fun. He also may not have Horses.

We'll start the war with 5 Axes, so real soon. We already have 4 spare Axes in Barca. I guess we should also add some Swords when attacking Berlin, and probably a Spear to be safe.

Seville is a little awkward since our religion hasn't spread there yet. Probably a case where we'll want to let it grow unhappy and nail a 2-man whip for a pair of Swords.

I'd like to research Priesthood to build a Temple in Seville, but since we don't have religion there yet it can wait.

700 BC (2)
Patience exhausted, it's go time. Biz has four cities of which we know the location of three. War!

Why is our worker unable to move from the Gems tile? It didn't start work this turn? Oh well, if Biz captures it we'll take two from him.

675 BC (3)
Buddhism spreads to Seville so I swap research to Priesthood, due in 5. We want a Temple there to run a Priest so we can discover Civil Service. Or build a Shrine if I have the wrong GP type.

No worker of ours captured, so take one from Biz. Pair of City Raider II Axes win and we snag Hamburg without loss. Plenty of plundered cash to bump up the science rate to 100%.

We also trade Fish for Crabs with Alex. Can't hurt.

Biz has a city that might claim Iron so I'll chase that before Berlin. Maybe we'll swing a few Swords by then.

650 BC (4)
Lose an Axe attacking an Archer, then avenge his death by securing a 2nd promotion for another Axe. Biz has a couple of Archers nosing around Barca, but we have that covered.

600 BC (6)
Biz is interested in pillaging, so I'll let him. Eventually his Archers have to come onto flat ground and serve as training for our Swords.

Whip Sword in Seville and shall use most of the overflow on a Temple. Alphabet in 9, but we need more $ from Biz.

525 BC (9)
Start to run a Priest in Seville. Find another German city N of Barca. No border pop, so strictly a training exercise for our Sword.

450 BC (12)
The border on Munich popped this turn, so lose an Axe and a Sword, but capture Munich and score enough gold to continue 100% research.

Find Frankfurt in the N desert. This is the city we leave Biz with in order to get techs for peace.

425 BC (13)
Agree to Open Borders with Greece. Have turned down OB with Liz since she is the likely next target.

375 BC (15)
Alphabet in, set a course for CoL which should complete in the same time frame as the GP.

Missionary built and intended for Munich as we'll have to fight for the Gold (at least until we whack Biz).

Berlin is located in an interesting spot. You can tell it has a common border with London which probably shouldn't happen in these map scripts. The force approaching Berlin probably isn't enough to take the city but a few more units can be scrounged up in the short-term.

Biz has one more city in the fog besides Berlin. I'm guessing N of Munich. He'll already offer us Pottery, Archery, and the verboten Masonry for Peace. After capturing Berlin we can probably get Monarchy instead of Masonry.

The only city I whipped was Seville, so that's open to the next player if he wants to whip a quick bunch of troops. Our cities were building units in 4-5 turns without the whip and we weren't losing many so I didn't feel the need. And I knew we wanted to wait for Alphabet to finish before capturing Berlin so we could be patient on the attack.

No beakers have been put into CoL and the Prophet won't be born for another 27 turns so feel free to pick something else to research. We could get an extra Happy from Alex, I seem to have started us down the path of being his buddy which may not be the best idea. But I think it wouldn't hurt us to eventually have someone to bribe to fight Mansa, and Alex is completely nuts.

We're the only ones with Alphabet. Biz doesn't even have Writing.

Can not look on save but from what I see on pictures I can not decide, do we want Col or do we want Calendar?
Col to reduce our upkeep and open way to philosofy or calendar to increase our income seens we have so many Dyes around?

will play when come from work, but I can not decide right now with out looking on save. Any opinions? How mach we make if we put sci to 0 and how mach we will make when all cities taken come out of resistance?

Second thin I am lost about. If I undestand picture rigth Elisabet capital culturally press on Berlin and get Iron from him. I did not think it suppous to happened on normal size map with standart amount of AI. Very strange.

what can we get for writing?
Also, i would go for CoL and we need to start 2 scientists somewhere. Calendar almost always have 0 trading potential and col will give us corthouses which is more important at this point. Feel free to correct me here.
And yes, if that is iron of enlgand that is rather strange, cant open save now

Well, I played save.
Turn 0, set research to 0% +12 gp, start to collect army, berlin is well defended and on hill. Collect army from everywhere, produce few Swords, as Bismark does not have mettals and went in.

When collect 70 gp research pottery in 2 turns and stat mass whipe granaries/libraries, setting research back to 0.

On turn 8 Finally collect enoght forces and barelly took Berlin with heavy looses. Made peace for all he had (Masonry, Monarchy, Archery I think).

I took masonry as I believewe would benefit from Orgonised religion and will need to get it soon. Better to use first GP on Shrine, not for civil service. Civil service would not benefit as as mach as useall.

Traded iron working + for mathematic from Lis.

Rigth now we can trade COL for Masta if we want for Alphavit+Iron working
and then trade col or alphavit for sailing and AI would have nothing to trade.
I do believe they will have only Politheism/monotheism on as.

I did not make trade to as to discuss, does COL now worth loosing monopoly on Alphavit.
On turn 10 London border expand (It look like she burn GA from somewhere?????) and all our army finished trapped in Berlin.

So, It practically forsing as to declare on her in 4 turns or open borders, I simply do not see any other choises.

All our army is trapped in Berlin, berin will flip to her when current revolt finished.

So, I think we should make trade and then declare. We would have to whipe defence on mainland from somewhere, but we can now as we have granaries everywhere.

I was delaing switching research on untill libraries/monastryes will be whiped, so from that and from taking berlin we have some money.

Roster.

Mutineer - Mess thinks up
uberfish - next builder - Up Now
TheRat - who knows what he is up to
Acidsatur - Kill everything, no mercy
T_McC - an other brave soul

It is 10 turns from now on.

Nothing do to but declare on London now.
I would trade alphabet for Col.
And we need Shrine and fast (does London has it already?)

Haha, Elizabeth again. You guys really don't like her do you :)

I think it's worth trading for CoL now. Our tech rate is not stellar and if we don't trade now we may lose the chance to. With Mansa in game if we keep on his good side we'll always have a tech trading partner in the later game.

After some cooldown thinking I think i agree with Acid. Trade for col so we can whipe courthouses and declare war on liz and take her out. We would have technologies needed to support empire.
Please note seville has half GP point for GP, but does not has priest right now as it is regrow after whipe of library.
Please, remember to assign priest for our shrine.

What I do not undestand is how London and Berlin just 2 ties appart?
How map generator created this situation?

this is indeed very weird as Berlin and London are CxxC, something I have never seen in any game. Clearly a bug that should be reported.

I agree with getting CoL and declaring on Lizzy. She should remember us from the last game ;)

is it possible that either Lizy or Bis actually moved their first settler? Never saw that before, so i doubt it. I've seen CxxC before maybe once or twice however.

Well ....

The benefit of Civil Service was the ability to chain irrigation, not Beauracracy. But maybe Barcelona is the only city to really benefit from that (or we can just research Calendar instead). However, Beauracracy is a really expensive tech (Maces, anyone?) and our Shrine will always be there. Oh well, too late for that now. We may be better served with a Scientist now if he'll research a good tech for us. The Shrine is only worth 3-4 gpt to us.

I was also figuring we would be better off having a non-Financial friend as the game wears on. Although it may be better to be Mansa's friend and involve him in as many of our wars as possible. :)

Agree to trade for CoL, but I wouldn't bother trading for Sailing. Sailing is too cheap to burn a tech trade chip on.

Be careful when declaring on Liz. We have a long border with her and she has both metals and horses.

Main advantage of shrine is not immidiate income, but free spead of religion.
We need that.

I was thinking something, maybe first gp should be priest. After that i would concentrate on getting GM for funding.
Because of this and other things we should really disscuss course of game instead of blazing trough our turnsets. We'll be liberalism before we know it
