Well, Ed did allude to the ability to be able to get onto the shore despite cliffs. It could be a technology, policy, promotion, or something else entirely.

And when that happens, dinosaurs will be unleashed upon the world.

Seriously, though. I wouldn't hate it if you got a bonus for reaching an unexplored tile like that. Like, suppose there's a goody hut on that tile and if you get that goody hut after turn 100, you get a huge science boost or a great prophet or something. (Kind of like a super rare El Dorado sort of occurrence.)

Not isolated 1-tile islands though. There is a 2-tile island which is a bit isolated in the left lower side of the map.
