Issues installing Beyond the Sword ("not installed properly" error)

The problem is that I bought the original civIV via direct2drive, but got BTS at a game store (considering d2d was bought out by gamefly and doesn't carry BTS). I get this stupid error message and have no idea what to do. Any advice?

The download comes with the latest patch so I'm stumped!

Sorry, they are incompatible. You need to have a download version from D2D to match the original Civ 4 you have. Perhaps Gamefly will stock it soon, they have said they are slowly moving stuff over. Otherwise you'll need to get another Civ 4 from the store. Sometimes the Complete version can be bought very cheaply online.
