It's less that Progress is strong, and more that Tradition is weak

The statement is that it's only problem for tradition

But surely it is still an issue for progress, if authority is just better anyway? Progress being 2nd now hardly matters if you should just open authority always.

You guys know you're not forced to finish a tree, right? Most finishers are not worth it.

Well authority tree is the only ancient era tree with bonus related to barbarian, something that tradition and progress fairly lacks. Added with aztecs traits it is not surprising that aztecs authority thrives in barbarian heavy start. I think it is not fair comparing with aztecs authority with babylon tradition when it comes in solving barbarian problem as they both have little relationship in playtstyles and traits. One is heavily favored while the other is not.

its a fair comparision at chieftain, turn barbs off and Babylon Traditon with its science and Wonder boosts defeats Aztec Authority, Authority could be moved to a more medieval tree thus delaying combat a little as combat should be level pegging in ancient times Rocks and Clubs anyone? Perhaps A new tree that focuses on early religion early celtic tribes (until the romans defeated the druids in north wales as an historical example) perhaps tradition could have one or two policies later in tree for classical specialised warfare and perhaps progress could use its hammer and expansion into to larger less specialised units and the early relgious one could use more attrition- based early warfare bonuses historically what the druids did the romans by trying to scare them

Well of course. Between those two civ, barbs off heavily favor Babylon Tradition, of course it defeats Aztecs Authority as they have fewer unit to kill. Barbs off and raging barbs are not considered default condition for balancing AFAIK so if anyone make conclusion based on that non-default pre-game setting it should be noted in the beginning of discussion and not surprised about the result
