The Greeks are launching a small counterattack. It shouldn't be much to contain though.

I got the one city I was shooting for.

It has been a long time since I got something from the library. With it, I can focus more on the wars that I have been fighting.

I just started that in Kyoto a few turns ago!

I signed a peace treaty with the Greeks. I only sucked some money out of them.

The last Spainish city falls. That city has been owned by three civilizations.

With that, my three original targets are gone.

The nations in the west are much more powerful than the nations of the east.

On another front, I decide to go after the Ottomans. They have some big cities and much better land over there.

I usually give into threats from the west, and this time is no exception.

Next time - The best the Ottomans have is Swordsmen, can they do any damage?

YES, if you're unlucky. It's just kinda like you defeating cities that had pikemen and you had archers.

The Ottomans are launching the most impressive couterattack I have seen this entire game. That doesn't mean that it was very hard to control.

This war is being fought on two fronts. One is going for the capital and another is sweeping up some border cities. I took one border city with some losses.

While attempting to get Edrine, I got a leader. Since no good wonders could be built, I made an army of Medieval Infantry.

I now got one city on each front.

Invention leads to Longbowmen. I upgrade some archers in older cities and send them down to the war effort. The Mongols and the Ottomans are the current tech leaders, but the Ottomans won't stay up there for long.

I got another city in that swamp and jungle wasteland.

Another troop move from the Ottomans, it was easy to contain.

With that, I can now build Samuari and try to trigger an golden age.

That army will be an effective fighting force until the end of the Medieval Era.

More troops are on the way to take care of the Ottomans. My income is going through the roof!

Next time - A possible war with Egypt if the Ottomans are finished off?

Once the Pentagon is built, you can add another unit into that army. And once the Military Academy is built the attack factor of your army would then be an 8 and defense would be a 6. That is if the fourth unit is a medieval infantry. So, that army will be good into the industrial era then.

I'm spending nothing on science, I have built marketplaces in big cities, and I have taxmen in the cities in the swamp.

After two turns, I get the city of Iznik. Most of my units on that front are shot.

Moving to the other front, my army is getting ready to attack Istanbul.

I'm making a huge amount of money, I also don't spend any money on luxuries and little on city improvements. I have six luxuries, and my largest city is a 10.

The Ottomans want a peace treaty. I would give it to him if he offered me two cities.

Bursa is caputed and the Ottomans are down to two cities.

After killing 10 pikemen, Istanbul is mine. I did get a wonder, but it is only good for that city.

More technology, always helps me.

I got another one on the same turn. The Maya and the Mongols are the tech leaders. This may be the last tech I will get from the library.

I was happy to get the Knights Templar wonder, and it triggered a golden age! More military and more money is coming my way. I guess it did say about the wonder that it had a chance for a golden age for military and religious civilizations. Japan fits that well! My gold per turn shoots up to +266.

My score makes it above 1000, twice as much as any other civ.

Next time - Will the Great Library become useless and will I be forced to change governments to keep up in technology?

I know, I am religious so it only takes one turn.

The Scandinavians approve of this deal. That means my next target is the Egyptians, because the Egyptians aren't giving me anything.

The Ottomans are gone. They had the technology to put up a little fight, but they were not even close to ever being ahead.

With my golden age, units are flying out of cities. Edo will complete the Forbidden Palace in 2 turns, providing another large boost of income.

Edo completes the Forbidden Palace. War with the Egyptians will start in one turn.

With a stack of 21 units, it is time to invade the heart of Egypt.

War is declared. They have the same level of technology that I do.

Fearing that I won't get anything else from the Great Library, I dump all of my money into scientific research. With a loss of 10 gold per turn, I can get Chemistry in 7 turns.

The culture of Birka increased, and with that I need a right of passage with the Scandinavians.

The Egyptians had a colony by me, and it was captured.

Next time - Who's next after Egypt?

Yeah, I get confused with some of the civilization's colors as well. I always think the Mayans are Germany because they are blue, and the Romans and Carthage have similar colors. Carthage is the civ there, Rome is not in this game to this point.

The Incans and the Mayans are becoming very powerful. They are getting about half of the wonders.

The first of the Egyptian core cities falls.

With Heroic Epic, I have an increased chance of getting great leaders.

Hopefully the Egyptians don't have anything in that boat.

My second great leader comes out for this game. No good wonders can be built, so it is made into a army full of Medievel Infantry.

I captured their capital, too bad they don't have any good wonders.

I think they have three cities left.

Chemistry is researched. I still am hoping that I can get one more tech out of the Great Library.

The Mayans have Education, meaning that the Great Library is useless. I do buy it off of them for 1610 gold.

Memphis is captured and the Egyptians are down to two cities.

Relations with the Mayans will improve in this update, so I'm sure they won't be using it against me. But I won't do that again!

With one city left for Egypt, they are in very bad shape.

The Mongols declare war on me, this is the first time someone else has declared war on me.

I lost one city inbetween turns. Losing it was not much of a loss because it is a colony. I wish I could get 70 gold on every enemy city!

I sign alliances with all nations in the west. The Russians will hopefully provide some support for this war, because they share a border with the Mongols. Alliances are also signed with the Mayans and the Incans to prevent them from getting into an alliance with the Mongols. As for the east, they are mostly harmless and do not pose a serious threat.

A look at the mess of agreements.

Greece has also gotten involved in the war. I saw a wave of swordsmen heading into my territory after the Mongols.

I'll keep Egypt alive over this, I always like money!

The Golden Age ends and I am still making progess in technology despite the fact I am still in Despotism. I sell Metallurgy to my new friend, the Mayans.

I sell it to the Russians and make even more money.

Questions -
1. How does the AI spend its money?
2. If you have 7 luxuries in Republic, and if most of my cities are under 7, will I still suffer from war weariness?
This may be useful to know in my Monarch game.

Next time - The Russians are gaining cities on this war, how will I get that to stop?

Buying Education was a good thing. If you would have waited until another civ had Education, it probably would have been some time while the mayans could have reasarched Astronomy and further.
