OK, I thought this was pretty funny;) . I started up a game as England, got up, and watched TV for a few minutes while I waited. I came back, only to see the message "Tokugawa has won a conquest victory!". Baffled, I clicked proceed and watched the histogram. Egypt, China and India were all doing fine, and were proceeding according to history. India and China went to war, and then declared peace without any agression from either side, which tends to happen. Greece spawns. They move into Turkey, etc. Rome spawns, takes Italy, Carthage and so on and then attacks the Greeks. Takes Byzantion and razes it, takes Athenai as well. The Greeks = dead. Persia spawns during this and gets ripped to pieces by Barbarians. Around this time, China collapses to barbarians too. Japan spawns around now. At this point, Rome, Egypt, India and Japan are still alive. Rome attacks Egypt and kills them, then loses Carthage, France and collapses. India is destroyed by barbarians next, and Japan is the sole Civ left standing.:D I never even got to spawn.

Edit: This isn't exactly how it played out, after a watching it a second time, I discovered Rome was the last Civ to be wiped out. Ahaha, and Greece built Byzantion 4 times and it was razed all 4.:D

That is CRAZY. I wish I could have seen some screenshots of that. Would be an interesting study.

Well, if you wanted I could get a picture of Japan being the only Civ on the map from the histogram, just as proof, but I don't have an autosave or anything for it, but it IS in the hall of fame, so I can look at it again. Yay.

I think the barbarian are a little frenzy in this release...

I think it's good. In 97 and below, if one civ was dead by the 1800's (that wasn't killed by the human), it was a rare occurance. Maybe, 1/5 of all games 1 civ would collapse. now, there is almost always at least one civ that's collapsed or died. If the computers aren't going to kill each other, someone has to!;)

The problem is that it gives a free ticket to the player, as barbs are easier than civs. In my last roman game, Persia, India and China were destroyed by barbs, and many cities were still standing. So all I did was take some praetorians and hear eastward easily conquering everything at my path.

In my game as Russia Greece and Rome both were collapsed by the time I started. China then collapsed shortly after I was born. I also had a pretty devastating barbarian attack against me where I lost one of my cities (near present-day Volgograd) and almost lost Moscow.

This new system is definitely different, and I haven't played enough yet to decide if I like it or not :)

the fact is that there is NO new system!!

I just added those 4 barbarian cities in Europe, and made the period of Asian spawn longer, while decreasing the number of axemen and swordsmen in Europe.
I didn't think it could have had such a devastating effect.

I guess one thing at a time is probably safer to change :) Sometimes, a few little things can add up to a lot!

Yeah, it definitely does. And the barbs are DEFINITELY tougher than civs, because, for example, in my latest game as France, Rome had fallen. Carthage was razed, Lypq had never been touched and neither had Rusicade (to my knowledge) there are 15+ longbowmen in Lypq and like 7 in Rusicade. Also, Lyon was attacked by a gorup of 6 axemen a few turns in. not that I'm complaining, I like it.
