JH-1: Restless Indians

Not a whole lot to report, here are some highlights:

3160- Start scouting around close to home with our warrior, we don’t have to worry about fog busting quite yet.

3120- A lion approaches our scout, I move him to safety as he is not healed yet.

3000- Worker finishes, move him to start farming the plains to the east. Start on warrior.

2960- Our brave warrior defeats a wolf, but is injured.

2840- We learn the secrets of animal husbandry and I start us on the path to bronze working (I know we cant chop but I want to see copper). Our warrior heals and spots horses to the north.

2760- Warrior finishes and I start a barracks. Our scout heals and he pops a goodie hut netting us 49 gold.

2720- Our scout is attacked and injured by a wolf. I promote him to woodsman 1 and move him to the forest to heal.

2680- Scout heals move him west.

2640- Scout is attacked by a lion and is injured, so he’ll rest again.

2520- Perch warrior on hill to our east to keep the barbarians at bay.

2440- Perch 2nd warrior on a hill to the west for lookout duty.

2360- We meet our brother Huayana Capac.

Also one question:

I'm thinking after the barracks and another warrior for escort, we will probably be looking to breed more Indians and make city number 2. Looking at the dot map, I'd like to suggest the next be the Aqua Dot, but moved one tile N and two tiles E. We'd keep the cows in the fat cross, and allow ourselves to exploit the shoreline along with our initial city.

Thoughts?

My aim with blue and pink was to play prevent (I do not know how big this continent is, and allow us to seal up our side of the isthmus.

I do not see anything badly flawed with your idea though. We'd lose the silks though, assuming pink dot stays as is (and I think it should, since its coastal too)

Tell you what would be valuable, is to scout the shoreline of the new city location you're proposing. If there's a seafood resource in your new city fat cross, then by all means, because 2 food resources will help it grow fast. Plus, any trees are health resources for us too, and your position would net 1 health, or at least keep us even.

We'd probably be able to settle a city in the middle by the river later to grab middle resources anyways.

So yeah, my rec is to see if there's any sea resources. If so, then totally settle. Otherwise, you get to make the decision, but I would be more hesitant myself. I think queuing up a settler is a fine idea, since we can't build any wonders anyways.

Probably should get a warrior or two now out to fog bust...bust the fog in our part of the continent and let the barbs hit our cities at the isthmus

Sounds like a plan. I'll take pics of the area when I scout it, so we can all follow along in the thought process.

Isn't it wonderfully interesting to see how a strategy of no chopping and no wonder building (at least initially) works?

I thought of something. If possible, we'd best be served to improve our resources that will chop the forest (since that is allowed) when we really need the shields (settlers, workers, wonders).

Ok, here we go.

Goals: 1) Scout for Aqua Dot placement, 2) Fog bust, 3) Work tiles around Teno, 4) other early game goodness

Turn 2 (2280BC)
- Teno Barracks > Warrior

Turn 6 (2160BC)
- Lion ate our scout!
- Teno Warrior > Warrior

Turn 8 (2080BC)
- BW > Wheel (10)
- Revolt to Slavery

Turn 11 (1975BC)
- Toynbee gives his/her (not sure by the name) $0.02:
Civ4ScreenShot0002.jpg

Turn 12 (1950BC)
- Teno Warrior > Obelisk (to pull some more resources in)
- There's Copper here:
Civ4ScreenShot0003.jpg

Turn 14 (1900BC)
- Looks like Aqua Dot will stay put:
Civ4ScreenShot0004.jpg

- Decide to move warrior to hill N of spot to fog bust

Turn 17 (1825BC)
- MM Teno to use mine and save turn on Obelisk

Turn 18 (1800BC)
- Wheel > Fishing (to get work boat ability for fish we get on next culture pop)

Turn 20 (1750BC)
- Teno Obelisk > Warrior

Not much more to say. Scout getting eaten did set back some of my turn, but hopefully not too much.

Okay guys, MadViking, you've got 15 turns.

Let's try and get a fog buster or two, and a settler up.

Are you guys still looking for another player in this game? I saw a post in the registration thread dated Friday, but didn't see anyone new join since then. If not, maybe I will just lurk as an alternate.

RDDC, we haven't yet made it through the whole roster yet once. One more person means less work for us all, so I really don't have a problem adding you on.

Please respond back, and let me know. Make sure you've read through the thread so you're know where we've been and what we're going forward with.

Make sure you read the variants. They're a doozy!

Ya, I read the variants, it sounds like a good bit of fun. I'm typically a Monarch player, but Prince should be plenty challenge under these rules.

Line me up after Strauss if that's OK with everyone. In the interest of full disclosure, this will be my first SG.

[badlog] First the warrior in Teno was made followed by a settler, the settler was made and then a warrior next. The settler is on the settling spot (in the first pic, wheat fur city).[/badlog]

Save

There is a barb N of the settler, near the coast, and there was a warrior at the south post.
