I've got a couple frigates going, and Rome's going to go down pretty soon ~ perhaps the Toku dogpile is coming up next??

is it me or are our cities small??

Frankcor
Pholkhero >> just played
Lobsterboy >> UP NOW
Jericho >> on deck

back to 10 turns pholks...

Small because we've been whipping. We're out of the whipping phase.

We'll need to cancel any trades with Toko. Remember that he's who we want to dogpile on.

I think Alexander is a good target next...get all the AI kept Toko to dogpile on with us.

Also, I would like it if we could get a settler up to NewFoundLand and settle in the southwesterly desert tile. It would be, eventually, a very good commerce city (with lighthouse, harbor, granary), plus with a theatre we can put even more cultural pressure on Yek.

Good turns Pholk. I think we're well on our way to a very unique victory, but a very well managed one.
Let's build a theatre in Avignon, and get some GA's. Let's culture our way to getting NewFoundLand. We'll need to farm the forested grassland, mine the golden hills

Tours is a great GPF. Farm everything. We can have it produce GA's for us with a theatre...then once we get the GA's we need to flip NFL, make it commerce or science

aieee!! thanks for reminding me!! That Russian longbow has a settler in his stack!! in retrospect, that might've been the better site before the village on our island, but hindsight is 20/20

Crap! I knew it! I was thinking along the same lines as Jericho that settling that dessert square would put more pressure on Yek'berg.

I'll see what I can do about starting a dogpile war vs. Alex. In my single games, my unwillingness to give away techs always restricts my efforts to be a good diplomat. For the sake of the team, I'll try to swallow my pride!

I downloaded the save, and should have time to play tonight. I'm also "up" in my other SG, but I expect that should be a fairly quiet set of turns.

Hey guys just checking in. This new video card fried my computer somehow, so I have to wait for reparations to be made by my roomate. Apparently, he chose to ignore the fact that we dont have the power or processor speed to run with this thing. So, if you didn't already assume this, I am out indefinitely. I will lurk wherever I can find internet access though.
We all know those heathens are going to hell when they die, but give em some hell on Randomly Generated Earth beforehand for me, will ya?
It's going to be interesting to see this, I have never had so few units in SP games, depending solely on naval protection.

Take a look around. Fiddle with moving a few citizens around, but in the end, I don't think I changed anything. Six scientists in Orleans! Yowza!
Contemplate revolting to Pacifism until I realize that we don't have a state religion! No point.
Onward...

Hanno (Great Merchant) born in Paris
Well, this is a surprise! Only 16% odds! Sending him to Lyon to board a Galleon to establish a trade route (Kyoto has a pop of 16).

Turn 305 (1375 AD)

Monty's Galley shows up S of Rheims with a Settler, a Worker and a Longbowman. I wonder if he's going to the iron West of Orleans?

Fortunately, Tours borders will expand in 5 turns, and, hopefully, will add this square to our empire.
Tours grows: 6

Turn 310 (1400 AD)
Monty's Galleon turns to head EAST. Maybe he's heading for Newfoundland after all. Too late my fine feather-headed friend!

Alex declares WAR on Fred! HOORAY! Fred is down to three cities (I think), so Alex would appear to have the upper hand. I figure it's only a matter of time before Fred asks us to join in, so I don't immediately declare war. I ask around to see what people want to dogpile, but no one seems interested. Peter wants Gunpowder AND Banking just to cancel his deals with Alex. Jeez!

Overall, another dull set of turns. Our Great Merchant in on a Galley with a Frigate escort headed to Japan to investigate setting up a trade route. Whoever's up next can negotiate the dogpile war vs. Alex!

We should have a respectable navy by the end of the next set of turns.

I did not cancel our deals with Toku. I figured that could wait until we're ready to start pissing him off!

Here's an overview of the main continent and Newfoundland:

Here's the save:

I figured that could wait until we're ready to start pissing him off!
I agree. Also, i'm not sure Avignon-on-Newfoundland is going to be able to flip any of the cities over there

otherwise, good turns ~ a very bizarre game for sure!

Nice turn set!

I was sweating that out, hoping I hadn't blundered by giving up on getting a second city in New Foundland so easily. When I saw the AI galleons heading there, I diverted our settler to the fishing village site instead of wasting turns shipping him to New Foundland.

1 Great Artist soon and we flip a city or two. That's gotta be the goal, so I'm going to suggest we work towards that.

We should go ahead and cancel deals with Toko. We also need to be very wary about declaring war on Alex, because he is pleased or friendly (at least at my turnset) with some members of the buddhist block.

Things I'm going to do on my turnset.

1) Ship off the GM for some $$$
2) Culture up Avignon
3) Cancel some deals with Toko -- We need to do this in peace-meal, and the longest running deals first, so as not to tick other AI's that like him.

4) If I can trade two techs and get a 4 civ dogpile on Alex...I'm doing it.

5) Pacifism would really help out...hmm.

6) Great Artist Jericho~!

7) How's our Navy? Thinking of Galleons and Frigates.

8) What if we produced missionaries of Hinduism or some other faith, and sent them to Toko, got him to convert?

8) What if we produced missionaries of Hinduism or some other faith, and sent them to Toko, got him to convert?
now there's an idea...we have an explorer hanging out in Moscow (or at least he was 11 turns ago ~ do you remember moving him Lobster?) ~ he can explore Japan ~ will they convert if all their cities are already Buddhist? Or do you want to spread a new faith and pay him to convert??

The Explorer is still in Moscow. I didn't move him at all. The GM will also provide an ability to explore Toku's territory.

Interesting..., I've rarely engineered a conversion in my single games, so I'm far from expert on how easy it is to do. But even if we convert all of Tokus's cities to Hinduism/Confuscism (the only religions to which we have access ATM), we'll need to give him a pretty big incentive to convert. Afterall, converting from Buddhism will sour his relations will the Buddhist block. Plus, there will be no guarantee that he won't switch back after 10 turns.

In any event, we should probably build some Monasteries and start spreading religion around to our cities. Converting to Free Religion when it becomes available probably would be better than no state religion at all. (I forget what the other benefits are in addition to +1 :) for each religion present in the city.)

We have at least 3 Frigates now and 2 Galleons: 1 Frigate + 1 Galleon escorting the GM to Japan, 1 Frigate off the SE coast of our continent and another off the SW coast. The other Galleon is monitoring one of Alex's coastal cities.

There are a couple of Caravels floating around too: one by the ruins of Cumae, another monitoring one of Alex's cities, and a third E of Toku's lands (I think it's a Caravel, but could be a Frigate.)

Three more Frigates are currently in production.

I think it's a Caravel, but could be a Frigate.
I don't remember what it was, but i stationed a ship off the coast of greece a bit, just to watch out for incoming ships

Good things

1) The Maginot Line of the Sea has been establish
2) Avignon had its borders expanded. Due for another one in about 20. No city is producing culture except for Avignon on NewFoundLand
3) Discovered Liberalism (1st)
4) Took Economics as the free tech
5) Free GM is in a caravel going to England

Okay things
1) England is now Friendly.
2) Frederick is now Friendly.
3) Dogpile on Alexander.
4) Revolted to caste system, rep, bureau, free market, pacifism

Bad Things
1) I can't get Monty or Peter to stop trading with Toko. I can't get them off Friendly status with Toko. I wasted a few techs to get Toko to attack alexander in the hopes that he would attack him, and hurt his relationship with Monty. So far, nothing to show for my efforts.

Can't win them all I suppose...
