First, sorry for my poor english level.

I consider myself a decent player, i play mostly at immortal, sometimes at emperor, but i always struggle badly when i get a start in a middle of a jungle.

This is weird, really. In my current game, jungle is everywhere and i haven't any happy ressource before calendar. You have to tech iron working early, delaying some crucial eco tech like currency and code of laws. Settling there is very costly, and if you have Shaka lurking around, it's basically a mess.

How do you deal with that? I had very poor starts in the past, and though i lose more often than not at immortal with a sucky map, i'm always in the mix for the victory. But here i have nothing but jungle, nothing, bar a few tiles near my capital. You have to build a billion worker to cut all this .

It's completely normal. Jungles mess up your game. Try to expand away from it, but if you start in the middle of it, then you're probably screwed.

I don't know what settings you're playing on, but I thought that your capital should never have any jungle tiles in it if you SiP. Sometimes you'll have jungle nearby, but I can't think I've ever had a situation where I can't get 4 or 5 cities out before I'd have to consider settling in the jungle.

If I genuinely started in the middle of a jungle, I'd re-roll the map. If I had no choice but to play on then I guess I'd try and make the best of the good land I had and try and kill someone with better land.

My capital was jungle free but that's it, the rest was.... well, green ;)

I lost this game, never been able to catch up tech wise, i was close because i lost liberalism for one turn :fou: (lost against the only civ i hadn't discover yet) I was friend with everyone but i rolled some ai which rarely allow you to trade techs, Isabella, Brennus... (not Mansa, sadly) AI was insanely fast, in 1250, half of the civs had already electricity... Too good :(

That sucks. I find expanding into jungles can be challenging if you don't have enough workers--once you clear that land, it becomes prime empire-building territory.

Go watch TMIT's Boudica game on Youtube.

It won't help you, but at least you won't feel alone.

Yes, as long as it's far enough away, it's just great land (gems and food resources galore and all on grass with some rivers added in) but at the start it makes me cringe.

It is doable, but sucks. I struggled with several Emperor lvl games with jungle, although I could mostly get 2-3 cities outside the jungle, some prospectively good jungle sites (gems...) had to be settled as well and I had to replay section several times to get the proper balance between claiming the land ASAP and losing too much time with a very poor 2nd or 3rd city. One more or less has to beeline IW, after the most essential worker techs.
