just a few questions from a returning player

i haven't played civ3 for maybe 6 months now and iv lost a lot of the skills that i had before. so im just gonna ask a few questions

1. is there any way i could get either of the expansions online (via torrents? website? something like that?)rather than buying them? (i have vanilla at the moment)
2. what is the recommended spacing for cities? isn't it between 3-5 squares?

if you could tell me either of these i will be happy and i will probably come up with more questions as I play the game over the next few days

I prefer CxxC spacing. Not sure about online for civ. I think steam had it, but I suspect patch issues. Do a Google.

alright and can you explain to me what CxxC spacing is?

CxxC = two tiles between cities, where C is a city and x is just a tile.

wait, so if i download one of the PTW patches does that mean i can play PTW?

No, it goes like this:

Vanilla self contained app last patch is 1.29F (iirc)
PTW an addition app the will not play without the vanilla base, last patch is 1.21F (iirc)
Conquest an additional app same as PTW, last patch 1.22

Conquest (C3C) came with PTW for those who did not have that expansion.

The patches for PTW or C3C will not apply on top of vanilla. Complete comes with all 3 apps and is patched.

If you want to get PTW/Conquests, go to the store and buy Civ3 Gold or Civ3 Complete. It's cheap.

It's worth it. And sorry, but no, I don't know anything about PTW downloads. I bought Complete a few years back and never have gotten around to even playing vanilla or PTW.
