Just Another Religion Mod (BtS / Modular)

I haven't really been able to fix the MesoAmerican missionary (the new one) yet, so we might have to keep the old missionary, although I do have an alternative one. Then there's this one; it is the new Zoroastrian one I cooked up. Let me know what you think. Ideally I'd like to replace the staff with a torch, or at least put a flame on top of the staff, but that might be a bit beyond my abilities. I think what I'll try to do is get these as done as I possibly can and then see if I can't get someone else just to finish them up for me.

Yes, it is better than the old one. The texture is much like the old onecs, but the model is more unique. I like the idea with a torch, but if you can't do that, do you have different staffs? I think it's not that good, if all missionaries do have the same staff. Or perhaps remove the staff completly if it doesn't look strange in the animation.

I am going to change the staff, don't worry about that part. I just have to learn how to edit the effects now.

Which effects?

The glowing light/symbol above the missionary when a religion is spread.

I wrote you it is done in a seperate nif file. Just copy the nif of an existing effect, rename it and edit the dds file. (JARM/Assets/Modules/ChooseReligion/Religion_Effects) And I wrote you would do that too, because I have to edit the icons anyway.

Is it possible to only install some of the religions without including them all?

You can edit the file Assets/Modules/ChooseReligions/ChooseReligions_CIV4ReligionInfo.xml and delete religions you don't like. That would be the easiest way.

I just wanted to thank you guys for making this mod. It's really nice to have some extra options in the game.

I also appreciate that the mod does not try to do too much. Some of the other religion mods change game mechanics related to religions, which I didn't want. I just wanted more religions to pick from, which is what your mod delivers.

And it delivers extremely well. I love that every religion has unique graphics. The religions are well thought out, the graphics are awesome, and the mod runs flawlessly.

I look forward to your future additions to this mod.

I forgot to mention, that you have to edit the two Gamefront files, too. That's quite a bit of work.

Thank you very much. I am allways glad, if someone appreciate the work done. Most often I do only hear, what people doesn't like.

At the moment I have strong doubts, that there will be future additions.

I just wanted to let you know that I'm another person who really likes your mod and I really appreciate the work you've put into it.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but I do have one small suggestion for you:

I noticed from reading the forum that some people seem to miss the instruction that states they need to choose Custom Game, and then select the "Choose Religions" option, in order for the additional religions to be available.

That need can be eliminated, if you want, by adding a GameInfo folder under Assets/XML that includes a copy of the CIV4GameOptionInfos.xml file, and simply change the following section in the original:

Spoiler :
Code:
<GameOptionInfo>
	<Type>GAMEOPTION_PICK_RELIGION</Type>
	<Description>TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_PICK_RELIGION</Description>
	<Help>TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_PICK_RELIGION_HELP</Help>
	<bDefault>0</bDefault>
	<bVisible>1</bVisible>
</GameOptionInfo>
...to the following:

Code:
<GameOptionInfo>
	<Type>GAMEOPTION_PICK_RELIGION</Type>
	<Description>TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_PICK_RELIGION</Description>
	<Help>TXT_KEY_GAME_OPTION_PICK_RELIGION_HELP</Help>
	<bDefault>1</bDefault>
	<bVisible>0</bVisible>
</GameOptionInfo>
The change sets the "Choose Religions" option to "true" as the default choice, which means that:

1) The JARM mod's extra religions are available even if the player just chooses "Play Now".

2) If the player does choose "Custom Game", the "Choose Religions" option isn't even displayed since the mod requires that option.

Again, it's just a small suggestion that might save some confusion on the part of the new player, and eliminate what must have been at least a minor source of frustration for you from people having failed to read the instructions.

By the way, just to reiterate how much I like the JARM mod - it's the only one I use regularly. It adds the very thing I personally wanted added to the game - a larger variety of religions. :)

Thanks, Dianis, I am happy about everyone, who likes the mod.

About the Choose Religions Option: I don't know, it's in the readme file with a big "Important!!!". So everyone who has a problem runnig a mod and is too lazy to look into the readme, really can't be helped. But your suggestion isn't bad. I will remember it, if I release a new version.

I looked through this thread a little bit. I am no position to mod at the moment. Bouncing the pond has caused me issues with modding.

Rapture has all the art in it for units and sounds for every major religion group. It is WoC modular. So each religion has a folder. I can summarize again shortly Rapture. It was meant to have only 7 major religion groups, but under those denominations. As in 7 major I mean religions that attempted to spread to other cultures.

Now the lines may blur in on it, but in Rapture Taoism and Confucianism plus the other major 2 Chinese philosophies of the Warring States Period were included into one major religion with each of the 4 being a denomination. And then Iranian was moved up as group for the various religions like aka Mazdaism(Zoro), Zurvanism(Zoro), Bahia, and Manichaeism.

Zoroastrianism was really a religion that was spreaded and came from a proto religion which the Vedic pre-Modern Hinduism came from as well. The two religion shared many features. Mesopotamian religions were based on Semitic people beliefs completely different from Zoro or Hinduism which were Indo-European. Anyway just a point I wanted to make.

The term pagan I am using in Rapture is for religions that were usually tied to an ethnic group. For example it really makes very little sense to me to have the Nordic/Germanic mythology spread to China. But one god like the trading of Egyptian and Greek gods not the entire religion did happen.

And my opinion the new age names for the religions are dumb for Civ4 unless modern religions. They were not really considered religions at the time so much as the gods were intertwined with a certain group of peoples. The new religions formed based on old beliefs I understand being a name for that. Unfortunately people can try to recreate the old beliefs but sorry they will never be the same. So hence the new age names should apply to modern attempts, but I think has nothing to do with what was going on in 1000 BC.

So the point was to spread gods not entire mythologies. Anyway how I grouped them was to try and associate 16 ethnic groups and each civ begins with a mythology. The intent as well was not have every religion do exactly the same thing. I was thinking more of Gods of Old style for each god.

Anyway blablabla the art is there. Rapture is not dead, but certainly on pause. The units are finished unless I missed some things. They do not have team colors. I did not intend to add them, and most have high poly counts. I made some sound files as well. May the force be with you. There is a crazy real religion Jedi.

Which technologies exactly are linked to which religions? It seems like the addition of too many early religions would prevent later ones from ever being founded and pretty much just replace Christianity, Taoism, and Islam, with others. Also, I do agree that "-ism" words would seem better than just "adjective Mythology".

The mod does not allow any of the new religions to be founded with any specific tech. This basically means if you play a normal game, only the normal 7 religions will be founded based on their techs. You can only access the new religions if you go into custom game, and select the "Choose Religions" option. Then, in the game, you can choose from the new religions.

Even though the mod technically brings the total number of religions to 17 (if I remember correctly), only 7 will appear in the game regardless - it just means some religions will be left out.

Hope that wasn't too confusing. :)

I just wanted to make sure of this - is this mod currently stalled at the moment? :(

You just don't know, who's playing it ;).
I've seen it now several times, where somebody has shown a screenshot, and somebody else asks, what the religion icons are.
There are numerous users, which just play it as standard game, and don't mention it specifically.
