KaiserIOT: Dream of a World

A letter arrives at the office of the Roman Emperor in Constantinople bearing the marks of the German Chancellor. It reads as following:

Dear Emperor Andreas I Laskaris, Emperor of the Roman Empire,
I sent you this letter in response to your previous one, and I need to seriously inquire about some matters.
First of all, where did you acquire these nice old movies? I am asking because of personal interest in collecting old specimens of whatever kind.

being the Emperor of the Romans has some perks. one of which means you get anything you want, for the right price. fortunately, i just happen to like movies, among others, and felt that sending you these movies were appropriate.

Secondly, are there any movie shops and possibly movie production titles of note and influence in Rome? I am asking this because of my long - standing interest in the history and way of life of the people.
Thirdly, if you answered yes to the previous question, name them and rate them from 0 - 10. I am just curious.

the Roman Empire was just established a year ago, and was at war for most of that time. most of the movie industry on the Pontus are focusing on war movies. we have a few that may be interesting:

1453: a film detailing the Fall of Constantinople. the final six weeks of the Byzantine Empire. it is, however, Dramatized. famous last stand battle. you even witness the utter bravery and courage of the last Emperor and the soldiers. a 10 out of 10.

Stalingrad: a world war two battle film.. produced shortly after some clever people noted the parallels in Thrace. it showcases the desperation to stop the Germans. the utter defiance of the soviets. the utter defiance of the Germans, when they got surrounded. i woudl give this an 8 out of 10.

Downfall: a Greek film, showing what might have happened if the soviets got all the way to Berlin. showcases the last 6 days of Nazi Germany. emotional film, really, with a ranting hitler, many suicides, the hopelessness of the german war effort. a 9 out of 10.

one thing to note: Hitler was right. Germany did have a huge Army... in Prague

Last but not least, if rated less than 9, how would you think they could be improved and is your opinion indictive of that of the Roman population? Again, just statistics for our Random Statistics Department.
Thank you in advance,
Chancellor of Germany, Robin Kellner

Stalingrad is the only film rated less than 9. they needed improvement in scale. it felt too small. the film only really focuses on a platoon from Germany and the Soviets. there were over a million soliders on each side, and they only focused on 10. each. it took a bit away from the film.

My opinions on the films is my opinion only. indeed, the film 1453 does not seem to be popular among the Turkish population, but is hailed as the holy grail of movies among the Greeks.

i hope this answers all fo your questions nicely.

you're welcome, from Emperor Andreas I Laskaris.

Your answers are most interesting Emperor. I must thank you on behalf of German capital people for taking das Time to answer my questions.

Cheering for the Turks ofc :p

A CONFERENCE INVITATION

Chancellor Robin Kellner has announced a new set of measures intended to bring peace to the world, starting by Germany's direct neighbours, the Norman Alliance and the Duchy of Orleans. Intending for the two sides to solve their direct confontrations and differences with one another without sheding any blood, Kellner has called for a conference to be held at Berlin where the two sides will try to discuss what divides them and possible solutions. Germany will also be attending, and Italy and Britain have been invited to the conference all as neutral observers to a conflict which all take an interest in.

From: Norman Alliance
To: Germany

Peace is the way forward. We will gladly send our delegation.

From: Duchy of Orleans
To: Germany

To resolve this conflict without bloodshed is good in the eyes of the Lord. We will send representatives. If the Alliance does not object, we would like to request that The Maiden be among our delegates, as she has taken a keen interest in the conflict thus far.

From: Madagascar
To: Maghreb

We will gladly accept the invitation. May the strength of our brotherhood triumph over all suffering!

From: Egypt
To: Maghreb

We stand with our allies and we will join the New African Union.

From: Congo
To: Maghreb

President Ihejirika is hesitant, but the threat that the Gethic pose to our sovereignty is undeniable. It is only a matter of time before they "accidentally" unleash a cloud of poison gas on our Eastern cities, as they did to Lander. We will accept.

From: Ivory Coast
To: Maghreb

...

From: Yemen Caliphate
To: Maghreb

Would you permit our entry into this New African Union? It is the will of Allah that we work together against those who would see us destroyed.

From: The Federal Republic of Germany
To: Norman Alliance, Duchy of Orleans
The Federal Republic of Germany must thank you on behalf of her people for choosing the path of peace instead of that of war that has claimed many innocent lives in south Europe. We hope that all your conflicts will be resolved without conflict and any bloodshed. We can only hope to assist in whatever the two states in France decide to do, whatever that decision may be.

Vinsin Vancore is sad to see that the forces of chaos has shrouded the continent of Africa and the Yemen Caliphate. The fact now powers fear a bringer of order and peace can conclude that we have a lot of work to do to bring forth the unity of humanity against any potential second invasion by the Other. Nevertheless fear is a case of victims manipulated by chaos and hence we hold no ill omens to those who sign up to the New African Union and reject our invitation to join C.O.P.E. We invite all who respect peace and order into C.O.P.E as Germany enjoys as a member and Yugoslavia would if it were not for Andreas and the Italians spoiling a day all due to a "emperor's" failure to keep a word. We notice though the Ivory Coast is hesitant to the N.A.U and hence give a invitation to C.O.P.E to them in case it is a silence of issue with the advocate of chaos. As for Lander we have made the case that it was the San Janito terrorists who were responsible for causing the crash and our journalists in the Hand will investigate with a full report on the truth. What ever the case African states and the Caliphate should not jump to the fear mongering strategy of the Meghreb and instead join the forces of hope that is C.O.P.E.

From: Yemen Caliphate
To: Maghreb

Would you permit our entry into this New African Union? It is the will of Allah that we work together against those who would see us destroyed.

Hmm, Yemen is not an ethnicly African state, granted neither is the Maghreb or Egypt, as us three are more Arab or Arab-Berber.

However Yemen is close enough to Africa and faces many similar potential threats to her sovereignty that Africa does as well.

As such I feel it is at least appropriate to grant Yemen observer status.

However I will leave it up to the remaining members of the Union for their opinion on whether or not Yemen should be fully admited.

Maghreb: Yea

Egypt: Yea

Congo: Yea

Madagascar: Yea

Edit:

It is settled, Yemen is a full member of the New African Union

Roman Empire for observer status, for the Greater Good.

Emperor Andreas I, in agreement with the chancellor of the Senate, and the Roman Senate, has requested observer status in the African Union. for the greater good in preserving the independence of African states.

also...

Emperor Andreas I Laskaris writes a short letter to Ilias Psinakis, Prime Minister of Yugoslavia:

the Emperor of the Romans will not oppose you joining the African union (should you wish to) on one condition: in Africa, the war doesn't exist.

SPECIAL NEWS REPORT: FIRST EVER ROBO SAPIENS

robot-eye-early-test.jpg

Otto Klug on the left, cyber eye used on the right

Hello and welcome to Deutsche News livestream. It is me, Adam Thomas, and my crew here ready to report on the first ever man to have the cybernetic operation of " The Feature is today" program to be done on him. And this man is no other than famous technology - phile, Herr Otto Klug, ex - Chancellor and ex - Technocrat of the Union of Technocrats party. Herr Klug is known throughout the Federal Republic as the first Chancellor that put great pressure into the Bundestag through his actions and statements to go forward with the Homo Robotis Program, and we are not suprised that he is the first one to taste the direct fruits of his sweat.

* The journalist approaches Otto Klug as he is leaving the state hospital *
Thomas: Herr Klug, this is Adam Thomas of Deutsche News. Can you tell us why you decided to perform surgery on your eye?
Klug: The operation was more symbolic than anything. I decided to be perfomed upon to show two things mainly: The first was my complete support for the program even after my exit from politics and secondly that the surgery is just fine

Nice. How does your cybernetic eye feel?
Certainly worse than my previous organic eye, but it is my belief that if you are blind because of genes or circumstances that you would rather take what is given freely to you by technology rather than stay limited by forces beyond your control.

Enlightening thoughts. Mr. Klug, how much did the operation cost you?
In the fear that I might be mis - interpreted, I don't want to talk about the relative costs of my specific operation, as I guess changing your arm for example would differ radically in costs and complexity. But if what you are saying is if I did pay for the operation, then yes, I did, just like anyone who does not fall under the categories the government has put for the free operation.

Most interesting. What is your opinion on alternative measures to improve the human race, like gene modification?
I believe that we should not mess so soon with gene modification and other related operations, as we do not know as much about human biology as we know how to improve it with the use of technology that already exists. Even if we were to use biological measures to improve mankind, those would come after humanity and inorganic parts mix.

Don't you have any fears of the new technological advancements?
No, not at all. Atleast my fears do not have anything to do with the technologies themselves. Life is a struggle of constant change. One has to adapt to survive, and the Other invasion coupled with the new economic and political changes taking place in the whole world but most specifically Germany, the beacon of a new future, proved and continue to prove that mankind must strive to adapt and not be left alone in the hands of random biological mutation that takes years to take place. However, I do fear about the possible mis - uses of the technology by the government, whether that government might be the German or that of other countires.

Thanks for answering our questions, and those of our spectators. I have just received a question of a different nature. Will you be re - joining politics?
Most likely not, as I believe that to choose one's politician is much more of an honour than to be a politician.

Again, I must thank you in behalf of our channel for being with us today
And so do I for you giving me this marvelous opportunity.

* The journalist leaves the hospital and turns directly to the camera *
Did you like our special report on the first ever cyberman? If so, then comment, subscribe and don't forget to give a like!
Or else.
I am just kidding! Have a nice day dear spectators, and join us next week, as we will be taking an all - exclusive interview on Chancellor Kellner about the French issue.

Roman Emperor warns Germany of repercussions.

the Roman Emperor is, frankly, alarmed and disturbed from the nevlopments in Germany. therefore, he has traveled to Berlin, in person, to warn the Chancellor of the German Federal Republic, that what is going to happen may have bad repercussions on the german nation, and, indeed the human race. he brought with him, all Star trek episodes and a movie dealing with the borg, to set an example as to why its a bad idea.

That is what Andreas is set with? Being reactionary by means of fiction?! Vancore questions how Constantinople may have stand for so long with such... especially in how he is giving Star Trek which includes Data as a counter to a rather reactionary conduct by the "Emperor." Anyway since you traveled to Germany in person you had time to arrange security during your stay?

The Gethic Hand request special research deals with Germany for access to robotic technologies for purpose of peaceful conducts.

THE ARRIVAL OF THE ROMAN EMPEROR

The German Chancellor had been informed about the Roman Emperor's arrival in Berlin through the famous Berlin Tegel Airport by Italian aircraft ahead of time so that he, together with the rest of the Coalition, could plan how to welcome him to Germany without raising any tensions between Germany, C.O.P.E. and Rome. As such, it was decided that the police together with some new robots would monitor the areas surrounding the airport and the Bundestag, lest the Emperor was assasinated by socialist or nationalist fanatics.

One day before his arrival, the news were announced to the German people, and many were ecstatic. It was going to be the first time after many years that a head of state visited the Federal Republic. Of course, as predicted, many were those who were enraged at his arrival, as they thought Rome needed to perish.

Once the Emperor was in Berlin and the perimeter had been secured, a journaist, after being properly checked in order to follow the standard safety protocol, from Deutsche News arrived on the scene and began taking an exclusive interview from the German Chancellor.

Chancellor Robin Kellner

Good Day Herr Kellner, this Adam Thomas of Deutsche News and I am here reporting live the arrival of the Roman Emperor, while the audience has some questions that ought to eventually be answered. Can you please tell us, for how long did you know about the Emperor's arrival?
The Coalition and I were aware of it for a long time, but tried to keep any information from spilling out because we feared a possible attack that would try to take the Emperor's life, and as such threaten Germany to enter war.

So there is nothing else going on behind these perimeters, unlike conspiracy theorists have been claiming?
Well, the truth is that we also wanted to test our new security robots and their integrity.

Since you brought up the cybernetics program, what are your plans for it and in what direction do you see it going?
The way I see it going is that of robots eventually being indistinguishable from humans. I don't even understand myself why we would still call them "robots" and not humans in the future, as our name, homo sapiens, indicates our ability to think. Once robots acquire the ability to think and help our scientists in the laboratory, what's stopping them from being called "humans"? Their different structure does not remove their bond with humanity, but rather strengthen it.

But what about the unemployed? Even though some have been re - educated by the government - sponsored seminars, not all will be able to do so.
In the future, people will not need to work and have all the time for their entertainment and self - education. An idealistic socialist will tell you that robots will need technicians in the future to repair themselves. A realist capitalist will tell you that robots will be able to fulfill that role themselves.

Since the UT proposed in their pre - electoral political promises a science competition in Germany for young and old, and since the UT is still in the Coalition, will the government take steps to do what the UT promised?
We are currently divided on the matter. The UT believes that these competitions should be state - funded, while the NLP thinks that technological companies like Holzer Industries and Megasoft should be allowed to fund them and the innovations of the contestants themselves rather than the state, which should have a rather... nominal role in the costs.

Will the cybernetics program be shared with other countries?
Unfortunately, no. We had an offer by the Gethic Hand to share the technology with them through a common - research pact, but doing so would risk humankind not because of the Gethic, but because of the innate technical and ethical challenges these new technologies bring. We are aware of the dangers of these new technologies, and that is why we must contain it as much as possible while it is still in its first steps.

Regarding the French conflict, what will you be doing?
Germany can do nothing more than stand by and hope for the best. We will support whatever decision the French take, as long as no blood is shed.

Thank you for this most interesting opportunity to learn more about the Government's plans.
You are most welcome.

The journalist leaves the secured perimeter, and the Chancellor and Roman Emperor are escorted to the Chancellor's Mansion just outside Berlin. There the two speak about cybernetics - related issues and watch the Star Trek episodes and Movie ," The First Contact", that the Emperor brought with him. Then the German Chancellor turned to the Emperor, and spoke:
" While I certainly liked the movies you brought to me here, as these people were quite ahead of their time, I still must disagree with your concerns. First of all, the Borg were not human, but rather alien. Science fiction represents symbolically the hopes and fears of humanity. As such, I do believe that this represents more of a hope of humanity overcoming the dangers of these technologies, rather than embracing them. As such, I disagree with your concerns over this technology, but I agree that we, as politicians, scientists and Germans, will do our best to negate all the dangers that might occur from them. "

The government of Yugoslavia offers 300 million Drahma (320 million US dollars) to anyone who murders the Roman Emperor while he is in Berlin, as well as the honor of becoming a "Hero of the Workers", a Marshal of Yugoslavia, de jure Premier of Bosnia, Minister of Superheroes and being given and another official position in the Yugoslav government which would pay 1,000,000 Drahma a month.

GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT

Because of the route that the situation has taken with the visit of the Roman Emperor in Berlin and the Yugoslavian assasination "prize", the German Government calls for immediate reforms regarding his safety. First of all, robots, military officials and the secret services are to be the first line of the Emperor's protection, while the policemen will be the second line, securing the Emperor's path to the Tegel Airport. The Government wishes to offer to Wulfram Wasp the role of being the Head of the Operation, and any other superhero who would wish to not see more blood spilled, please contact us.

the Chancellor of the senate insults the Yugoslavian government by calling them idiots and fools for thinking that killing the Emperor will do *anything*. it will not. period. you would have killed the Emperor, and it would have done nothing at all for the war effort.

besides making the Chancellor the new Emperor.

we question their grasp on reality, because we detailed, quite clearly, what would happen if the Emperor was killed.

in other news, we greatly appreciate the steps Germany has taken to protect the Emperor. therefore, the Roman Government shall foot the bill in these reforms and the security measures.

Psinakis purges the Military

W32veRT.jpg

A large scale purge of both high and low ranking officers has taken place in the Yugoslav military. Hundreds of officers have been tried in Public Courts for treason and incompetence and have been stoned to death by the people passing by and even by their own soldiers. This, of course, allows the citizens and soldiers to vent their anger over the stalemate in Eastern Thrace, but it also allows Ilias Psinakis to consolidate his power by promoting officers in the army who are absolutely loyal to his person. Most of the Yugoslav soldiers have supported the purge, as they see it as a way to get revenge for their failure and to open the road from promotion of more able officers who can leader them to victory. All new officers who have replaced the dead ones have absolute loyalty to Ilias Psinakis and are all hardline militarists and ready to murder any deserters with their own hands.

Purge in the Communist Party

MtwSU4c.jpg

In Belgrade, Tanks, artillery and soldiers surrounded the Parliament where the Communist Party of Yugoslavia was having a conference and about 3,000 soldiers burst into the building and killed on the spot all pro-Peace and anti-Ilias Psinakis Communist MP's. This a scene repeated in all of Yugoslavia, in Athens, in Sofia and other cities. Ilias Psinakis accused the pro-Peace faction of the Communist Party for reactionary and counterrevolutionary action. All those posts have been now filled with pro-war Communists. About 30,000 members of the Communist Party have been send to Gulags along with their families and close friends, close to about 130,000 people. Those have been send to do the hardest jobs imaginable and so they are expected to die in a few weeks due to mistreatment.

After the purge, all members of the Communist Party have been terrified and no one dares to voice any disagreement. The General Secretary of the CPY, Tomislav Nikolić, has also voiced his strong support for Ilias Psinakis' actions. The soldiers who took part in the purge have benefited a lot, since the properties of the dead and deported party members have been distributed to them.

Second Revolution

UqzK6It.jpg

A large scale purge has also taken place in the entirety of the Yugoslav society, with the name of "Second Revolution". Communist paramilitaries with the support of the Yugoslav Army have been murdering tens of thousands of nationalists all over Yugoslavia, have burned all books containing writings considered to promote nationalism and have generally purged any opposition to Ilias Psinakis and the war effort. About 85,000 people have been killed all over the country and 300,000 have been send to Gulags, to replace last season's death of 900,000 Gulag prisoners in the building of the defensive line in the Western Front. Any attempts to resist have been crushed and the Communist Party of Yugoslavia has made it's presence known to everyone: those who dared to defy it due to war now know the price that they have to pay.

Or was it because they said "Jehovah?" :mischief:

IC: The sheer brutality of the Bolshevik-Slavic horde's government is a reminder why the civilized peoples of Europe and the world need to destroy it - permanently. Il Principe Nero will not rest until Belgrade is liberated from Bolshevik-Slavic tyranny.

Roman Empire not surprised by the revolution.

it was beyond obvious that since the capture of Constantinople was foiled twice now, that they would do a Stalinist purge. in the middle of a war, no less.

we expect an easy time defeating Yugoslavia for at least one season.

When the Emepror heard of it, he just snorted, chuckled a little, and then drank wine, muttering about how he expected this sooner.

"THE FEATURE IS TODAY" PROGRAM MARCHES ON

Reinhard, a previously handicapped biologist, with a theoretical biorobotic replica

The German Government continues to perplex everyone even more. Germany has found itself inbetween a hard place and a rock with the Yugoslavian request for the assasination of the Roman Emperor and the French conflict, yet it seems that the Coalition is unfazed, as they continue to propose new extensions to their cybernetics program.

Today, the Governing Coalition, after connecting and communicating with Chancellor Kellner through Skype in his private mansion to ensure the Emperor's wellbeing, has announced a new research institution different from IATR, that of BIAS ( Biological Institute of Advanced Science ). The post of Head of Biological Research was given to Friedrich Reinhard, biologist who is considered one of the few global experts on the field of bionics.

However, the existence of BIAS does not stop there. This new institute consists of many biological laboratories that were easily bought thanks to Noske's connection with several biologists, as is expected. They have now been tasked with finding new ways for the cybernetics parts to imitate their biological counterparts in all sectors. " What we really want to do " mentions Reinhard " is to make humans indistinguishable from robots and augmented, as we want neither of these to be stigmatised. The theoretical groundwork has been laid, but we can not promise coherent results outside of the laboratory before 2024." says Reinhard.

It is expected that most of the funding will change from the proper cybernetics program done by IATR to the bionic program of BIAS, unless our government finds another way to waste the taxpayers' money.
