couple of differences. The most important one is that the Spearman is using a light bladed javelin known as an assegai, while the Impi is using a shortened heavy bladed thrusting the spear developed by Shaka known as an i-Klwa.

From a purely asthetic perspective the Spearman is wearing a lion's mane headdress and the Impi is wearing a feathered headdress.
Ah, I always thought Shaka's spear was an assegai (I remember that's what the Boers called them in the movie "Zulu Dawn" about the Battle of Isandhlwana), and I missed the distinction between the lion's mane headdress and the feathered headdress. Thanks for the clarification.

D'ja figger the differences will show up at Civ scale? Will it be a colouration difference or something?

Duh, silly me. :o

Where's the Zulu Pikeman?

Oh! I was wondering...:rotfl: It is the Mexican pro-wrestler!:rotfl:

Is that sarcasm?:undecide: OOOH! I know! It reminds me of a Mexican pro-wrestler because of the tight-looking face mask!...:D

 actually now that I think about it I do remember a Simpsons episode with that guy.....

That was my attempt at a traditional African War Mask.

I'm sorry, if I offended, sir.

Here's an example of a Mexican wrestler mask...

And a costume...

And a kids cartoon on the WB called Mucha Lucha that parodies the style...

And lastly, since I'd imagine that you, Kal-El, ;) are a man who likes his comics, think Bane from Batman. Perfect example.

Yeah, so that's the Mexican style for wrestling. Couldn't tell you how it originated.

I do, however, remember a Mexican movie done in the 1950s which shows a many dressed in a sparkle-version of the outfit above as a superhero who fights female vampires....

They played it on Mystery Science Theater 3000 and just.. just.. cut it to pieces.

:D The mask can be replaced, in fact I was questioning using it in the first place because I thought it might get some negative comments, never thought it would go this direction, but I can replace the mask no problem. :)
