KD1 - Masters of the High Seas

I thought English would be best for thematic reasons. England rules the waves and all that. Also because they start with Fishing and Mining.
Which leader though? Vicky or Lizzy? They both have financial which is very good if you are focusing on seafaring. So it comes down to expansive versus philosophical. Expansive is nice because it gives half price harbors which is in our theme (as well as half price granaries and +2 health as a bonus). Philosophical is nice too I suppose.
I would vote for Vicky myself as I think she is thematically better. ^^

Haenundae is nice. Kinda makes me wish I was in Busan instead of Seoul. :P

Absolutely. The start setting is all about fitting the theme, so the choice should be pretty obvious.

Hee hee. I tried the variant as a test and for practice.
I was not sure of the rules so I started research and clicked on compass. It took 51 turns. Then I selected Astronomy. I think 34 turns.
My starting city had two gold, silk, cows, and a corn. ^^
Unfortunately beelining for these techs excludes agriculture. Hee hee
My island has two other cows and wheat...a little low on the seafood though :(

Anyway, it is 500 AD and I have 3 cities. It is a pain in the ass to have to build 2 galleys per city so the expansion is slow. I am exploring a lot though. :)
I am 8 turns away from Optics I think. Not so bad really.

I will try and post a save game if I can figure out how...:P

Here is the starting location. There is wheat as well to the Southwest.

I guess that was 520 AD and 8 turns until optics. I would kill for agriculture. I suppose I could try and trade for it. I suppose that would be allowed. :P
Anyway, just got currency from a hut. ^^ Here is my crappy empire. :P

Since I am still trying to figure this out, how do you reduce the size of the screenshots that you post? Mine seem awful big. :(
Can't wait to get this started though. :)

I'm sorry but i have to withdraw from this one. 2 Sgs at a time is my limit and i didn't expect this one to kick off.
Here is a thread about uploading safes and screenshots. In order to resize them open them with Irfanview (google for it) and press Crtl+R. :)

Well it actually hasn't started yet. I was just figuring out how to post screenies and such and practicing. It is a lot of fun to rule the seas. ^^
Of course I could have done a lot better in my game but I was just seeing if the variant is viable. I believe it is, though not getting agriculture could hurt a bit depending on starting resources.
Actually Astronomy was 33 turns after Optics but I cut that down a lot with a few libraries. It can be done a lot faster I think, of course depending on start.
I was actually ten turns away from getting Taoism after researching to Astronomy.
Just my random babblings. Don't mind me :P

Oh and thanks for the tips. I will download that program. :)

It sounds challenging! I'd love to join, but as i said: I'm already playing in two and i will leave for a two week vacation next friday. If the game still is in preperation once i am back, i will join.

Hi everyone,

this game WILL play, but I'm going to postpone it until after the holiday season otherwise it'll be a pig to get started. Keep the ideas rolling in though.

SpikeIt? Still can't tempt you? It'd be good to have an old hand from the first High Seas adventure, or are you still clearing Jungles?

 I wish I could. Sadly, my copy of Civ 4 is merely collecting dust currently. That situation isn't going to change anytime soon. Good luck. I'll be watching. Make the Koreans, er, English proud!

No problem in delaying it. I will play some more test games. It is actually fun dominating the early seas. ^^ Arrrr....

Arrrr....Vicky be a good leader and Seafaring be fun. I have crushed many scurvy dogs, taking no prisoners. Those landlubbers never knew what hit them.

The only problem I have found is not getting agriculture. If we start by corn or wheat it kinda sucks. If there is lots of sea based resources then no worries.
Marathon speed is also lots of fun. It would enable us to keep our superiority at sea for longer. Of course Marathon is not every one's cup of tea I suppose.

Just my thoughts...

Aaarrrr! This thread has been bumped. ;)
Enough "Naval gazing" :crazyeye:
When will we dominate the high seas and bring ruin upon our opponents with our mighty fleet? :goodjob:
