Kerbal Space Program

If you guys haven't seen the Community Space Station thread, you should now.

Want to contribute, but my game freezes and crashes. :(

I liked the design of my space station core, I'm looking forward to getting it into orbit whenever my new computer comes.

Random question: has anyone tried using two tri-stacks, one facing upwards, to create a module with 3 1-m hulls between 2-m hulls? Because mine did not work a tall, and I'm wondering whether or not its supported. Maybe if I strut the thing to death next time.

Are the KSP website and forums down? I can't get to either of them.

Edit: They're back up. I hope they just had a temporary crashed caused by a ton of new users downloading the game. :D

I did something like this only with the bi-couplers in my post in the community space station. Using a bi-coupler to widen one stack to two, then have another one upside down to narrow it to one again. Worked but had to be well strutted and felt like a weak point. Haven't tried with tri-couplers though.

There are bi-couplers now? Amazing.

How are fuel transfers affected? Do you just dock to a space station and it gets automatically transferred, or is there a special fueling port you have to put in? Can you put a refinery in space?

You have to right click on the first tank, then alt-right click on the second tank to get the fuel transfer menu to pop up that lets you tell it how to move fuel around. It may be alt-right click on both tanks. I don't know for sure, I just read that online earlier. No fueling port necessary, just make sure the ports say they are crossfeed capable.

Bicoupled engines make for great booster stages.

Hey, to create a hovering unit, have you thought about radially mounting some of the new tiny engines to the sides of your craft? It will be still be a bit difficult to hover because it's likely you will always be rising or falling, but surely being able to use the throttle to control the up or down motion while only using RCS to go side to side or forward and backward will be much simpler than using RCS for everything. This is what I mean:
My old landers used to look like that, but I didn't want to make the colony pods look like them. The actual controls with RCS aren't that bad, its more the spin induction from a sort of assymetrical design and the oversensitive capsule SAS that ruined my landing attempts. ^^

Yes, but I can't download it. The patcher wants to repair my completely unmodified game files.

I only learned about this game from KurtJmac's let's plays on it.

This is his latest LP on KSP:

Yeah I'm trying to download it but the patcher said I had 738 corrupted files, and they are also unmodified.

It's redownloading the whole thing.

Other than the very first ingame patcher, the patchers have constantly been wacky :(

My first download of the game itself was screwed up. I had to download three times to get it.

Now, not only is it being wacky by insisting my game is corrupted, but it's going really slow. It varies from 400kb/s to 1kb/s, it's really maddening.

What did they fix with 18.1 anyway? I'm almost tempted to skip it until they straighten out their servers.

Docking misalignments, among others.

I'm waiting for 18.2 since I never had issues with misalignment.

I never got slingshotted around by a misalignment, but I did experience difficulties getting the magnetic seals to clamp the two spacecraft together. Have they announced an 18.2 and was that all that 18.1 fixes?

Sorry to pester, they offered no change-log within the game or the patcher.

Edit: Great, the patcher just flat-out failed on my 4th attempt to download 18.1.

And it failed again...it looks like I won't have a choice but to sit this update out.

Edit: Yet another failure.

Has anyone got the update to download and install correctly?

Edit 2: After 15 or so tries, it finally worked correctly (and it didn't even try and redownload the whole game). *whew*

I've found that if you use the patcher in a completely new folder, it is far more likely to succeed than if you place it in your KSP folder (where it usually runs into problems, especially with UAC on Vista computers).

Hmm I'll try that for the next update. Thanks!
