Killers PBEM

everyone please watch out - if you use Ctrl-l this may turn the game into single-player, so please don't!

if your fingers slip, quit, press ESC when prompted to save, then choose load from the PTW main menu....

as for the game: no idea. I'll try again, I hope we do not need to go to gamespy all 8 at the same time......

KD: how did you set up the other PBEMs you are playing?

I'll try again right now.
If we play a normal game (i.e. w/o modifications, just plain PTW Civ3), why don't you let me set it up? I had already done one for the game I'm playing with donsig. ;) Also familiar with the customizing aspects....

OK, Heiner. Everybody appreciates the effort you are putting into this.

If your friend makes the .bix file, maybe he should create the game and test to make sure that all 8 human civs get a turn.

This is how I create a pbem game:

1) Must have internet connection.

2) Start PTM unless it's already started

3) Multiplayer

4) Host

5) Check box by 1st name and click "Launch"

6) Select Game Type -> Plat by Email

7) Select Game Mode -> Scenario, select .bix file from list

8) Select all human players by selecting "Add human player" from the drop-down list for each player, then select all civs to the right of each player name.

9) Select rules under players box

10) Click Launch button

Is that how you do it? What do you mean by "normal MP game" ?

stalin006: I agree. Why do we have to connect to gamespy to create a pbem game, which is really like a hotseat game with passwords? I suppose the idea is to make development and program maintenance easier, but I'm not sure firaxis is going to be happy with this way either.

KD: we start with a nive size 3 town each to even out starting pos differences (especially available shields) A friend set it up so it should be OK. Random starts give so ****ty positions so often we might have to start again several times....

I recall a start where I had 21 tiles of jungle on that was the entire island - on pangaea game :(

need to selcet local first - and somehow the game didn't accept that! It stayed on internet despite showing 'local'. So when I started (despite PBEM selected) it saw no other players since nnone had joined :(

non-scenario one

OK, I fianlly realized what it was:

there wer two bugs:

a) clicking local showed local - but stayed internet. That's why I had to kick people despite thinking they shouldn't be able to join (that one had me wondering - until I finally saw the solution was there all the time: I seemed to be on the net because I was on the net  )

b) selecting PBEM did NOT change the game to 'local' in the background, thus I had a PBEM for which you had to sign up via net. Since you didn't, I couldn't add human players and get them 'ready'......

I dimly remember setting up a PBEM w/o going to Gamespy or accessing the internet. You have to specify the location as 'local'. ;) IIRC.

Anyway, the point's moot, let's roll. 4 pages of posts and haven't even started the game is a bad sign.... :)

I'd prefer a normal game and if you started out bad, well, it's just isn't your day.... :p

joespaniel and I are playing a PBEM which has an obscene amt of jungle betw our capitals and elsewhere.... I foresee millenia of jungle chores...

KD: that is OK if you are two or three, but here, with 8 players, some human is gonna waltz over you very soon...... Imagine playing on and on and on for month then finding the others are in modern times and you on your island are still in despo :(

Well then, I'd appeal for 'foreign aid' and act the role of a Third World nation. And there'll always be other PBEMs... ;)

And in an all-human game, I don't think people will be that trigger-happy, since anyone involved in a war will fall behind the rest (incl aggressor). Can always appeal for 'aid', since the rest of you too probably won't want my attacker to 'get too powerful', if you get my drift...

Anyway, let's stop spamming this thread before CT comes along. Who has got the game?

Also, can you pls put the players list in the first post (using edit), so we don't have to scroll around to look for it? Thanks. ;)

Sorry, will do so right now.

OK, I have the game and it seems to work now.

But I don't understand why Knight Dragon (singapore) is between USA players.

But will move and send to stalin006 anyway....

sumthinelse: somehow ma friend must have screwed up in the palyer order, assigned him wrong, or I gave him the wrong civs for the order :(

Yes I am in S'pore, but I am jobless. Available at odd times of the day but offline on weekends. Even now, playing PBEM online with donsig. ;)
