What Tax percentage do you let the king raise on you till u start having "product" parties?
Like do you let it get to 15% before u start denying the king? or what

I sometimes start throwing the parties right away, especially if I can grow tobacco and sell it to the natives. you can get $2,000-$3,800 on one load sometimes. (trade with capitals)

That high tax rate can be a bugger, so I try to keep it as low as possible.

Further more, after I get Stuyvesant, I never kiss the ring.

I don't kiss ring, I kick butt. :D

Furs are the first things I usually have to throw over. When I can sell them to the other powers, I do, but silver's more important. It only really hurts when I happen to have trade goods in a colony and I have to either dump them or pay a tax. Same with tools and muskets. It's not good when you lose 100 tons of tools and muskets in your blacksmithing colony. :( But you eventually make it back, though it takes a while.

Besides, I REALLY don't need that tax when I'm bringing in a lot of Inca gold. :cringe:

I normally kiss the pinky ring at the start, but try and get Stuyvesant as soon as possible so I can hold the product parties. Those customs houses are magnificent, and it frees up your naval power at the same time. You don't have to go back and forth to Europe as much, only to pick up new colonists.

If I can I try and not let the percentage get above 10-12%.

I try to avoid kissing the ring right away. Especially if the proposed increase in tax is really high.

It was quite amusing once when I had nearly all of my products boycotted and it asked if I wanted to throw a 'horses party'.

"Jamestown Horses party held. 100 tonnes of horses thrown into the sea..."

Fortunately, I just gained the Trade advisor who removes all boycotts shortly after.

However, when I am drawing closer to independence and have Thomas Paine in the congress, I let the taxes loose, so I can increase rebel sentiment further.

I never used to kiss the pinky ring. Its still possible to trade with Europe even with the boycotted products. Just hold down U when trading I think. Haven't played for a long time, installed it the other week, but it crashed.

well, a good thing about trading boycotted products is, if you have alot of products boycotted and then u get the guy that allows trading with other european colonies, those products in Europe, their prices are probably sky high. I had Coats going for $25, lots of money! i'm trading 100tons of Coats to the spanish for something like $1600! i've done traded some 1000tons, thats lots of money!
But the spanish keep on moving forces near my colonies forcing me to declare war. Right now we both have military power of 117 lol should be a very interesting fight!

SunTzu,
Some may scoff at this but get ben franklin in office, put a scout by a spanish town, fight them all you want and end your turn with the scout asking for peace. I dont do this all of the time but sometimes it is kinda fun.

ok, can u ask the spanish for peace? or does it come up automatically?, i didn't know you could open negotiations

[OT]Today, I picked up colonization again. I used to play it a lot. I almost fell of my chair laughing when I saw the message: Kiss my pinky ring!
[/OT]

Seriously SZ, I used to be an expert in this, but I don't know. Maybe tomorrow...;)
All I remember was getting stuyvesant. Allright, I'm back to work...or shall I play just one more turn?

have the scout enter the foriegn colony and several options come up. They always ask for peace when you have Franklin.

oh ok, so a scout then. Nice, thank you!

I don't throw anything overboard until the taxes reach about 7-8%, and even then I don't throw away anything valuable like muskets, tools, or silver.

Nope!

It depends on the resource. I never kiss a pinky ring for food, even if it's 1%. Silver however... Or other stuff I sell a lot at home...
