It's Easter and I'm expecting to have too much time on my hands, so I am going to start this rather ordinary new game if there is enough interest.
KK-01 – Fear of Flying
Pre-Amble
I have played a few succession games and always seem to be winning by launching into space. My last single player game also ended in this style. Thus I want to win by any means but space. I would not turn space off as the AI is free to win however they want. I on the other hand don’t want to go to space anymore. In fact I will expand on this and play with the premise that I am afraid of flying. That means flight is to be avoided also.
Not too tough I shouldn’t think as plenty of SG’s out there go for domination and conquest and may by-pass flight anyway. I have just never been involved in one and think it's about time that I was. This statement should not be taken as being a vote for domination and conquest. Cultural and diplomatic are equally good ways to win and in some ways I prefer them as I find them so very difficult to achieve. Time is of course out as the AI will normally launch sometime around the year 2000 at Prince difficulty level.
This will probably mean I will have to change my play style as I always seem to just fall back to a default of a space win.
This is not a variant as there are no restrictions except flight and that can be easily gotten around as far as I can see. Some games when you are bee-lining for space techs, you may just ignore it altogether so it's not a handicap at all. Just a premise on which to have a fun game
.
Any one else out there sick of winning by space and developing a Fear of Flying? Any interesting ideas to spice it up a bit?
The Game
Based on this premise, it will be a relatively normal game but we will need to see the starting roll to determine what direction to head. Due to our fear of flying, all techs are allowed except flight. Launching objects into the air on the other hand is actively encouraged and will probably be quite necessary.
Game Settings
-- Kikinit (20 turns)
-- Ralph_Jackson (15)
-- mike_p (15)
-- sooooo (10 turns from here on out)
-- Talamane
Alternates:
-- GreyFox
Anybody is welcome as long as you are up to playing at Prince level. After much thinking about it, I have gone for Prince difficulty. I'll consider raising the difficultly if there are enough experienced people to play at that level. At Monarch level, experienced players are much more important. At Prince level it should be a bit more forgiving. Please indicate a preference. I myself consider Monarch level to be quite a challenge, but it can be done. And who wants things to be easy?
SG Etiquette
Normal SG etiquette applies. 24 hour got it, 48 hours to post. Missing the 24 hours is an automatic skip to keep the game flowing. We will only drop people who routinely miss or are not heard of for a period.
