Known Info About Humankind

Since I'm more of an RPG player, I like items :P

I think heroes could be interesting, they were fun in Endless Legend, they would be an opportunity to include "leader" like figures in game that could stay relevant for a couple of eras. Items seem trickier, because you'd need to have them be relevant across all eras.

Even if the idea of Genghis Khan wielding Excalibur on the industrial era does sound stupid fun (at least for a while), I think it would take away into the immersion factor and dive right into Gandhi nukes territory.

As a semi-professional military historian/gamer, though, the idea of Named Military Leaders appeals. Especially since they've already said that the tactical combats will have lots of terrain and other modifiers to the units and their capabilities, including the potential bonuses from a Named Army Commander seems a natural addition.

Unfortunately, having left out all named leaders elsewhere in the game, as far as we know, and chosen Factions like Olmecs and 'Harappans' for which we don't even have the correct word for 'Hero' or 'General', they cannot have exclusive named Leaders/Heroes for all Factions - we just don't have any names for some of them.

On the other hand, if they just give us a General/Hero, a list of 'appropriate' names, and let us name them ourselves, we could come close to having all the advantages even in the context of a Non-Leader Game like Humankind.

I do so want to field a Roman Army led by Odius Asparagus or a French Fleet led by the Poulet de Mer, a Nomad Horde led by Atlatl the Hun

Just to add: don‘t stop with military heroes that lead armies. Give us heroes that can be put a governors in cities for sweet bonuses to their specialization.

I've got a partial list that includes a bunch of 'Great Ministers' from history that includes people from Solon of (Classical) Athens to Nizam al-Mulk of the Seljuks (Medieval), Tlacaelel of the Aztecs (Medieval/Renaissance), Thomas Cromwell, Todar Mal, Oxenstierna, Richelieu, Olivares, Tallyrand, etc. Not by any means all good people, but extremely effective in many fields . . .

Imagine Great Ministers that you can only gain acces to if you have certain combination of cultures.

The shots from page 2 mention different a "merchant hero", so yeah, I think it would be kinda great people but more permanent.

Don't know if this is all already known info, and it this is the right thread for it. If not, please feel free to move somewhere else.

I'm a member of a Facebook community on humankind (Amplitude's Humankind Community)... It's NOT lead by anyone from Amplitude as far as I know,
but the peeps running it seem very well connected.

Anyways, the following post was inserted earlier today, tought I'd pass the info, as there seems to be a lot on info on the twitch feed (I haven't had the time to watch it all yet).
The Event system is apparently talked about in more depth, and one thing I've noticed from these 4 screenshot is a confirmation that there will be a Hero System... Not sure if that
was ever mentioned before, I certainly don't remember hearing about it. Also, already mention about major increase in cultures via DLCs.

Also, first time I try to include images in a post...sorry if it's not how it should be done, they're quite big... I will change how I posted them if someone can tell me how to make it better

Here's the integral post from PM Bartoli, the person running the community:

Thanks to Damien Devismes, I could watch this one hours conference of 4 Amplitude devs and staff at Pax West. (https://www.twitch.tv/videos/474947055?t=02h00m00s)

Most important news: there will be an event system (see screenshots below) and the base 60 cultures will definitely be expanded with DLCs.

According to them, there will be between 120 and 150 events at launch. Some of them are triggered by how you're faring, what you've done, if you've reached a certain amount of scientific era points for example. Others are triggered by the culture you're chosen (like the second one here, the Druidic event for the Celtic culture).

Thanks for the reminder, I'd forgotten about heroes and events. Not sure if I'll add them to the opening posts until we have a little more info, but thanks.

I plan to update these initial posts with information we know so far about the upcoming Humankind game. Please post things I've missed in this thread and identify the source of your information.

Also, I'm trying to use Humankind, not Civ, terminology; please identify any terms I've missed. Also typos, improvements to descriptions, inconsistent formatting, etc.

CULTURES
You start the game as a nomadic tribe and may adopt a new culture in each of the six eras of the game. Aspects of your previous cultures remain with you all game. There are ten possible cultures available for each era. You create your own avatar to lead your civilization; the cultures do not have historical leaders.

See images for the revealed cultures here (thanks, @CivLuvah)

Hey @WillowBrook small correction for you: the Phoenicians are merchant, not aesthete

So, if this is old information, are Heros still a thing then? Would be a welcome change from governors and great persons to have emblematic heroes to your culture. But no items please...

The event system is still in, but I don't think we will have heroes, at least not for release.

a Nomad Horde led by Atlatl the Hun
Played the Olmec in the Ancient Era before turning nomadic? :D

Played the Olmec in the Ancient Era before turning nomadic? :D

Does that mean we CAN turn Nomadic later in the game?

Let's see, play as the Huns in Classical, Mongols in Medieval, and the Romany or 'Travelers' in Modern Era?

Full Confession: Atlatl the Hun is not completely original,. It comes from a Diplomacy game play-by-mail (pre-e-mail!) variant called Slobbovia which I ran for a year back in the early 1970s. Since the whole point of the game was to justify your in-game actions with Press Releases, I had to give it up after I realized I was publishing the equivalent of a 50 - 60,000 word book every month. From that source of inspired historical insanity I got folks like Atlatl the Hun, Ivan the Tolerable, Ydvig the Jewish Viking, Raoul Raskolnikov the Czar's personal chef, and Boris Sharposhnikov, a monk from the monastery at Mafang Fubar who was a master of Mung Fu, the Slobbovian art of self-defense - fighting with Body Odor, of which the less said the better.

Moderator Action: Broke out the discussion concerning Heroes. Please remember this thread is about elements that we know will be in the game. Let us keep the thread on that topic as other members are coming in to read what the newest info is and do not need to see, or mistake, what is not. Thanks.

It's just me rolling with your joke, so don't read any confirmation or denial into it.

Having been amongst these Forums for a while, I thought by now you would have realized that reading confirmation or denial into the most trivial chance remark is how we roll . . .

Oh, I know, I know. And to quote my previous answer to whether nomadic cultures are in the game: "Yes and no."
I just want to see all of you speculating about you ideal historical game, since that's great insight into what the most dedicated Civ/4X players want.
