While one of my longest-standing dreams is to create a Darwinian zoo where people could see the lions feeding on the live antelopes, I also do not see the point of killing a animal born in captivity on the grounds that in the wilds it would have been dead already. Hey, maybe in the wilds the cub would not have been born AT ALL! What do we do now?

I would say the activists have a point (one with which I do not agree, mind you) but taking up a crusade that is so against public opinion is beyond stupid. They hurt their credibility. Next time they need public support for something important, they will have a much harder time.

If it's anything like black bear... really really tough. Though I hear if the meat is fresh, it's far more tender. I would imagine that like viel, a young bear would be more tender as well.

No, I have, I was just rhetorically asking what happened to all the sane animal-lovers. I can respect someone who is against killing any animals for any reason, even if I strongly disagree with them. I can't, however, find it it me to respect those who say killing animals to eat them is wrong, but killing them to prevent them from growing up in an unnatural environment is humane. That's hypocritical crap.
