[NFP] Kublai Khan Discussion Thread

Interesting abilities, but Kublai’s eyes look dead to me, putting him squarely in uncanny valley. Good thing Lady Trieu looks more... animated.

Kublai is also missing the hat from his famous portrait, which is a shame.

Can't wait to pop a bunch of eurekas and inspirations I probably would've naturally gotten on my own!

That seems pretty weak TBH. Good thing he gets an extra economic policy. Not exactly the most exciting leader to play as though.
At least he's not Gran Colombia OP.

Someone was always going to get +1 Economic Card Slot. At one point I thought it should be England. But it’s actually kinda cool sitting with Mongolia and China.

What I really like about this is that it makes China ever so slightly more proactive than it was before, and makes Mongolia slightly less all domination all the time. Just gives both Civs a bit more light and shade, which I think they were missing.

Really good leader design. Love it.

Honestly. NFP has had the best Civs and leaders. Perhaps precisely because FXS has focused on building Civs around the base mechanics mostly rather than the RnF and GS mechanics.

I still think we’re missing one more leader with a unique governor. Ottos being the only one with a unique Governor is a bit sad.

Tecumseh and Victor Emmanuel II could both have Unique Governors.

At least it wasn't Pastures getting +1 Faith for every adjacent Plains Tile without a Forest.
I for one will welcome being able to slot both God King and Urban Planning upon researching Code of Laws. I usually do with Greece.

It does not. This was a possibility and bug we flagged long, long ago, and fixed.
That's good to hear. Although, I am curious as to why white Kublai leads China and yellow Kublai leads Mongolia. @Uberfrog brought up a good point, but I would like to hear from you.

It would be better that way, I am completely disappointed. This was at least logic, for me. This is not an NFP leader. Boring

Starina, no offense, but why would Firaxis make his Ability so mind-bogglingly specific?! It's less applicable than the actual Abilities he has, and requires very lucky spawn RNG.

I like how Kublai's leader ability works slightly different depending on the civ ability he's paired with. Having the extra eureka/inspiration boost with China vs getting the boost immediately with Mongolia is a fun nuance.

ALSO exciting new thing i noticed in the video - trade routes can now get sent over fog of war! Before you had to have a path of traversible tiles already revealed, but now it seems like thats not necessary! But now, i wonder... will the trade route be interrupted if there's a mountain in the way that the trader discovers? or will it automatically change course? or will this be a way to see in advance where impassible terrain is?

ALSO ALSO - japan has built a preserve on a one-tile island - so either that's just the AI making a silly move just to get more housing, or coast tiles finally have appeal and therefore can benefit from being next to a preserve? can non-wonder coast or lake tiles be included in national parks now? so many questions...

I have a theory that says mongol Kublai at least is based on his appearance in series Marco Polo as you can see from here

Here, he's bald somewhat. He's not in Civ 6, though.

To be fair I at least think Mongolia has a start bias toward horses. China on the other hand. :shifty:

I'm more disappointed that he didn't get a malus to naval combat, but I can live with it. :mischief:
